Beyond Dracula
Добавлен 8 сен 2015
If pictures speak a thousand words, videos must be the equivalent of a book.
Before you come to discover #Romania on your own, videos are the closest thing to seeing what you’ll experience. Books too.
And while nothing, but truly nothing, compares to what you’ll sense when you’ll be traveling around Romania, have a peek to get a feel for what to expect.

In Romania we celebrate #springtime splendour wearing a #martisor. It's one of our most #beloved #traditions. For Martisor, we exchange small #charms and #trinkets tied together with red and white thread. Bulgarians have a similar tradition and historians believe it’s something both countries carry from the times before the Romans arrived, while Thracians/Dacians inhabited the area. We want to ...

Hello! Is there a website or shop online to purchase from the Avramesti Herb Garden? I would love to try the tea!
Spectacular! I’m probably driving it in the next couple of days and looks very promising!
Let us know how it was. If we may share a piece of advice, avoid the weekends.
@@ralucaspiac3128 I couldn`t avoid the weekend because it`s the only time I could do it :/ but it was still spectacular, the views, and the road itself was such a delight to drive!
@@wherestheparty_ got it and glad it was still fun and a nice experience.
Nice video and images overall, but I'd have to make some observations about the information and words used by your guide - as we all know, there is always room for improvement: 1. Those comments on the number of rooms and windows is such a childish "mysteriousness" - I hear it all the time and I'm tired of it. It may only deserve a quick laughing remark followed by the observation that the building has 298 rooms. As for the windows, just ask the administrator of the building - they should know how many windows their building has. Period. 2. The "castle" vs. "palace": there is always a certain overlap between palace and castle. The difference is that a castle is fortified, and in the past this Princely court was indeed fortified (and on a hilltop), those walls you see in front of the palace and near Dosoftei House is a remnant of those fortifications. So, it's all within normal. 3. I have a problem with the word "pseudo-king" -- this is a naive and self-deprecating word for the locals. Maybe he wanted to say "a kind of king" - which is something else. "Pseudo" means that there was falshood involved, like somone who pretended to be a King but wasn't. "Prince" was enough, "Ruler" could have also been ok. And yes, it was like a kind of King, although it was not called like that, because the country (Moldova) was not officially called a Kingdom. Instead, I have a serious question: Why didn't you mention the REAL Kings (of Romania, the bigger country in later times, succeeding Moldova)? This could have been easily noted because the new Palace of Culture in the final form we see now was inaugurated in 1925 by the the King of Romania at the time. Furthermore, there is another historic building and place in Jassy (the correct name in English, btw) bears the name of the King - The King Ferdinand Royal Foundation Building - the Central University Library (usually known as The Foundation") . 4. Sorry, Byzantine is NOT "ottoman" but just Byzantine (ottoman is a political denomination and is associated with many styles as the ottoman empire was associated with many). The fact that you see similar Byzantine architecture in Istanbul (Constantinople) does not make Byzantine architecture ottoman. (Equating one with another is simply superficial, not to say idiotic). And, wait, "ottoman" because it's of stone and brick??? Are you kidding / WTH are you talking about?? Moreover, you should have mentioned that the Church in that assemble is the Moldavian Gothic style (that is a major cultural reference the guide failed to mention) that incorporates Byzantine elements, because of its orthodox character (i.e., traditionally tied to Constantinople / not to the turks themselves) . 5. "Everything here" on this Boulevard? This is so unintelligent! A correct description is this: a boulevard with a high-density of high-profile buildings and monuments -- this is a very big difference. The historic center of the city is much bigger than that one boulevard, even if that one is the most important. To me, this seems like a naive description of someone that was trying to find his words in English (as a non-native speaker of English) and ended up with some simplistic-naive sentences that are ultimately incorrect. 6. Armenian and Georgian cultures are Eastern European, not oriental (even if they were for long times under the ottomans). Calling them "oriental" is a bit snobby - I suspect this is some person trained in Humanities, mostly in the (OLD) French tradition, and for the Old French, everything east of the Rhine was oriental. 7. In the church people are praying, not "praising" (ok, this one is an easy-to-make mistake for non-native speakers under time pressure). PS. Fun fact: technically, if you divide Romania into a Western Part and an Eastern Part, like half-half, Bucharest is also in the eastern part, which means that Jassy is more important than Bucharest (and I agree with that! ... even if Bucharest is bigger), and this further means that Jassy is the most important city in Romania overall (and I also agree about that). So ... why do you come with such "half measures" here? You should say it directly: Jassy is the real most important city in Romania even if Bucharest is bigger and even if other cities in the country are great and important cities too!
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. 🙏
