Brother I turn 42 in March and I can see my abs for the first time. You are not delusional!
Hey Rob, firstly I love watching your content. Secondly you aren’t delusional. It really seems like you have a solid training plan but you keep changing your workouts and skipping them. And for the love of god…start a workout when you tell yourself you will!! 😂 keep up the grind buddy you are inspiring at least the 100 people who watch your videos!!
@@randomgolfdad yeah, I need to get better at the timing. Now that weather is cooling down it’ll be easier. So I think. 🤣 Thanks man.
Of course we are delusional. Thats why we do it. 😂😂 If we were normal it would be boring 🤷🏻♂️
Some days I just feel like I’m reaching for goals that I have no business reaching for.
Sounds like a brutal race.
@@TheTrashlete it was but wasn’t at the same time. The hills were unexpected and the rain didn’t help. I’d run it again but it’s not being run anymore that I can see.
Hey brother, good discussion! For what it's worth, I function best moderate to low carb. Somewhere around 1 to 1.5 g per pound of my target weight. I think extremely low carb is not doable for endurance, but yeah I feel great and can get lean (for me) on 160 g of carbs per day...
Im not going too low with carbs, just trying to do what I can to keep them just before and after workouts.
Some great excuses. I needed some more 😂😂
Just keeping it honest.
Tough week! Training with travel is so hard. Nice work!
It really is! Those work trips are always so jam packed with activities because we only get there 2-3 times per year.
Its frozen now days. Not the same pizza we made in 1996
Great recap. We were able to cross the finish line this year and must say, the medal was definitely better in 2023 haha.
Looking strong AF bro!
Thanks man. I’m trying.
Good stuff bro! Pop tarts are gas before a run. Sounds like you had runner's knee? Glad it's feeling better, though
Yeah, my Dr friend said that as soon as I told her my symptoms.. Runners knee. Unofficial of course.. And pop tarts were solid. Have a few other things to try still.
Thnx for all the videos. You've been a big help! How tall are you Rob? I'm about 10lbs lighter than you but pretty sure I'm 6" shorter... haha
I’m typically around 6’, but sometimes I feel closer to 6’1. I appreciate the support man. Let’s get it!
.....locks the dog outside . LOL!!
Yeah, I got him back inside. Lol
man see, man support, and like!
Thanks for the support!
Here for the vibes and the ruthless reviews.
Not a ruthless review. Just my opinion. ;)
Love your goals and approach. Excited to see you crush the San Antonio marathon!
Thanks buddy.. I'm hoping I can get to a better point than last years race. lol
Get at it man
It’s gonna be tough, but I’ll be doing my best.
I was out there with you this year for my rematch with Texas. I'm sorry you experienced a bike crash. I DNF'd at Texas in 2022. Crazy wind that year too. This year I gave Texas the legdrop! Keep at it brother!
Im almost positive I saw you on the course at some point. That kit was pretty noticeable. Congrats on your finish. I'll be back and I WILL get my revenge.
@@RobHale81 Are you going for Kona via racing or the Legacy route? I'm going the Legacy route. Just a few races left in my way.
I don’t want to go the Legacy route, but if that’s how it ends up, so be it. I’ll take it either way.
@@RobHale81 Right on brother! Seems we're both at the same weight and at the same point in our journey to lose it! I find it near impossible to lose it during big volume and racing.
Yup, and that’s why I’m taking a few years off of Ironman racing. I gotta lose this weight. I will. I’m focused enough at this point.
Wow. Just wow. What a TOUGH DAY! Next one is going to go your way big time brother. Recover, recharge and then get back in the fight. And taking time away from IM training while prioritizing a body recomp is SMART. Made a huge difference for me. IM training is so demanding. Excited to see the next chapter!
Thanks Sean.. Appreciate it..
Are you going to do the Dam 09 Triathlon in August.
I was not aware of that race, but probably not this year. Maybe in a future year.
Hi bro. Dont take this wrong. No offense. But. This video is just one excuse after the other. You gotta stop. 2 dnf’s in 2 years isnt the courses fault. I crashed this year also and finished. And swam slower. Same wind. Same heat. And why do this race again? Its like this every year. Diet. Lose 20lbs. Train harder. Less excuses.
I owned the DNF both times. I dont blame the course. The crash was avoidable, but it happened and I gritted through it and kept going until I couldn't take the pain. And I'll race it again because I know I should have been able to finish it.
Sorry to hear about the race man but great attitude IMO from you post DNF and well put together video! Wishing you the best of luck in future races!
Thanks man. I appreciate that.
Boston here comes you just continue the good work my brother 💪
Thanks brother!
Tough break Rob. Heads winds make the bike leg so tough and dangerous. On to the next one. Keep the head up.
Thanks. It definitely wasn’t easy, that’s for sure. But I’ll get my revenge.
Your goals inspire me !! My Ironman marathon times 6hr+ .. and my best marathon till date is 5hr .. I am getting motivated to focus on running for the rest of the year and have some solid marathon goals !!! Cancelled my Zwift just now .. will get back to biking in Dec to prep for 2025 IMTX !!
I probably would have suggested keeping Zwift as you can always get a quick ride in to keep your fitness. Also, if you’re going to start training for IMTX, I’d probably start in Oct or Nov to get the extra time. That’s what I would tell my athletes. But keep at it and let’s get it done!
Dude, absolutely no apology necessary. Things go in the tank sometimes, nothing you can do. Decompress for a while until you feel ready to come back and then let disappointment feed your hunger. I think losing some weight will be a big step in moving your run forward. And FYI - I found this channel a while back because of your Chattanooga video. I'm heading there in September for my first full. Truthfully, when I saw the picture of you prior to watching the video, I was thinking "what is this meathead going to say?" I was completely wrong about you (not my first error in life). Love the content and honesty. All the best!!
“What’s the meathead gonna say” is awesome. Fortunately I’ve been a triathlete longer than a meathead. Lol. Thanks for following. The journey never stops, just have to detour for a bit. Good luck in Chatt. It’s a great race, and be ready for those hills on the back side of the run.
@@RobHale81 Will do Rob, thanks.
I did the race last Saturday. My first Ironman. That wind was no joke. Tons of crashes. I had a tri-spoke on the front of my bike. I didn’t even attempt to take my hands off the bars to grab hydration. Luckily, my setup has a long drink hose on the BTA bottle, and I made a full stop to fill it up. On the run, most people were gassed by the middle of the second loop after getting mauled by the wind. I’m doing Lake Placid in July. Will probably do IMTX again, but that wind haunts me.
I’ll definitely do it again, but it’s gonna be a few years. Good luck in Placid!
Ron, great video and I am sorry for the rough day. I was targeting 12:30 but ended up 14:01, 45 minutes slower than last year but way better shape. Tough day for everyone. Good luck with the training.
It was a tough day for sure. Glad you got a solid finish.
Forever proud of you babe….. xoxox Love you!! Counting the days til we hit the gym!!!! 💪 🤩 we’re gonna look hot AF!! 👏🏼
Yes ma’am! Love you!
We had crazy winds at ironman UK last year. I made the cutt of by 2 minutes 🙈 Shame to hear about your race. But onto the next one 👌
It sucks but it’s part of the sport. Thanks.
So far I've done a lot of my training indoors. Would you say that only riding on the trainer hurt your race at all?
No, I don’t think that hurt my race. It was definitely the wind. I was strong on the bike and was having a solid ride prior to the crash. The only thing riding outside would have helped with was handling, but in a 25mph wind, it’s gonna be a struggle.
There he is!!
Im still here.
YOO Rob you alright buddy? I tracked you for the race you were killing it for a while there. I cant imagine that headwind! When is the race report coming
Yeah, I’m good. It definitely wasn’t my race. I’ll be putting up a race report soon.
Thanks for checking.
What bike do you have? How do you train for water? Im interested in an ironman and 3 hours from The Woodlands
I ran the Rock N Roll Half December 3. 2023. First ever distance run. Finished 2:24
I have a Quintana Roo PRFive2. It gets the job done. As for training for open water, mostly it’s pool swimming unless you live near open water. I did 1 swim in a lake, and I’ll get my next open water swim at the Woodlands on Friday.
Also, Ironman Texas is a great race. I'll definitely do it again.
Ripping it on the bike sounds so strange but I know I'll be too stubborn to stop during my first 70.3. How long have you been doing Ironmans?
My first triathlon was 2011, my first Ironman 70.3 was 2015, my first Ironman was 2016.
Was the fatality swim related?
No idea. What fatality swim?
20:10 🚑
@@billylee5335 oh that, no I don’t believe so. At least we never heard about it in the triathlon channels.
Do you monitor HR Rob?
As a metric, yes. Do I put much weight behind it, no. Too many variables factor into HR.
What’s your height & weight Robbie?
6’0, about 235lbs.
Its definitely hard to get training in when travelling with work.
Normally I can, but that week was crazy busy. Next trip won’t be bad.
Training for a 140.6 with a full time job that requires travel is TOUGH. Great job making it work!
Thanks. Yeah, it might be the only downside to being fully remote..... Those weeks you have to travel to the office to do workshops/meetings. Good thing training is coming to an end soon.
Hi Rob, I'm going to race for the first time in Gulf Coast (my first IM in US) and I have a question about swimming, was the wetsuit allowed? for temperature or as protection against jellyfish?
The 2 times I raced it, the temp was above 76°, so not wetsuit legal. However, if it’s between 76-81 it is wetsuit optional, but you have to start at the end and you can’t win anything. You can use other things for jellyfish protection, but for that race the stings weren’t too bad.
Hey Rob, great video!! 2023 PCB was my first, super excited to finish. Although slow (15:59), we are going back in 2024 to find the speed that we left on the table! Hope to see you there...Cheers
Florida is a deceiving course. The weather is never standard, which can play with your hydration, the bike is "flat" and boring which can throw off your concentration, and running after sundown sucks. You got this man! I might go back to cheer. Not sure yet.
Winter running is the worst. Good on ya for going out. 🎉
I can handle cold, its the wind I dont like. Cant wait for my 100 degree runs again.
I will show you speed and power in Texas when I pass you on the run course
Bring it on!
New show to watch in the gym
Thank you.. Enjoy, there are more to come!
Roll on summer 😂😂
I miss my 100 degree runs..
Solid video as always Bro!!! 💪🏻🏃🏻
Thanks brother.
Great effort. The thought of an ftp test always scares me 😂😂
Thanks. FTP is actually 237W (My Coach Calculated). Either way, still low compared to other cycles. Good starting point.
I didn't know those were a thing. Thanks i will have to order some. Keep up the good work
Thanks buddy. Check them out, for sure.
@@RobHale81 already ordered two
