Stretched Pacer - The Original Four Place Cub?
Fly it by the numbers! Chances are that if you are gross you are actually over gross. Did you count the weight of your IPad?, two quarts of oil in the back, seat covers? How about all the things added since the last ACTUAL weighing? You really don't know what the actual weight is so being conservative may be the difference.
Great interview. Lots of important advice. And Daniel knows the right questions to ask. Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks man 👍
The piece of advice that I like is, “the inconvenience of a cancelled or delayed flight will soon be forgotten but an accident will always be remembered and regretted.
I agree, sometimes we get so focused on our goal that we forget to assess our options. It’s something we should constantly be reminding ourselves of.
These old guys are incredible to listen to! I really hope you can keep these coming, look forward to every episode… wish I had someone like this close by to mentor me! Keep up the good work you do a great job! Cheers from Australia
That’s why we do it. Thanks for watching and tell your friends 👍
Was the pilot he talked about hitting the ridge “father Kelly”. He was one of my customers… hit somewhere between dillingham and togiak
I’m not sure. I didn’t ask his name 🙁
This is good info they don't teach to pass the ACS
Money no object!
So cool! What a stud!
35” tires 🛞 !
Ok I'm showing my southern ignorance but what is a tusex and I probably am not even spelling it right? I assume it's a sinkhole of some sort.
Tusock definition:a small area of grass that is thicker or longer than the grass growing around it. In alaska we are usually referring to bumps in tundra.
You should do an interview with the guys over at Helio Alaska to talk why bringing the Helio Courier back into production is a big deal for Alaska and backcountry flying in general.
That’s a great idea. I’ve thought about doing a little documentary style piece about what they are doing but haven’t thought about an interview
What a great story thank you for sharing!
Crazy that prop held together.
I know right?
Ive owned fast cars, Harley's,sleds, boats, dirtbikes ect..... That thing is my dream hotrod impressive piece of equipment cheers to you.
Frightening!
Hey Chris
You just sneaking around commenting with your incognito account?
Awesome interview! The original 4 place cub.... The Piper Clipper, PA-16.
Absolutely fantastic!
Nice pull out, this was my favorite takeaway moment from his extended interview - great reminder of what it takes to know an area
Same. I’ve heard a lot of people saying fly low on a nice day to get to know the terrain better. Interesting stuff
That was absolutely fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really hope you can keep this podcast going. I love hear all of these stories! Would also like to hear more about do’s and don’ts of flying in the bush.
Brandon, thanks for the encouragement. We plan to keep it up. It’s a lot of fun. I will see what I can do about the dos and don’ts. It’s my hope that some of the stories that are shared will teach those lesson.
By far the best podcast I’ve listened too. Legend.
Thanks for the kind words. We plan to have Kirk on again soon
Love these videos, priceless!
Glad you like them!
Fantastic interview from both, this is a channel worth watching
Glad you enjoyed it!

No bad advice there. 💪🏼
Humm?
Ron hayes is another pilot you should interview, 95 yr old polar bear guide, kirk ellis rules !!
What can I do yo get one of those beautiful airplanes , any contact so we can talk?
We aren’t the builder but I would be happy to connect you. You can contact me via my website sportaircraftseats.com.
Enjoyed the detail and time Will took describing his 180.
Glad you enjoyed it!
16:02 "Don't do anything you're not comfortable with." I love his talking point on this. I'm surround by CFI's and Commercial Pilots who will hear there's a gusting crosswind of 18 and won't fly because the max demonstrated crosswind was 17. I will never actively shame anyone for choosing not to fly when they're uncomfortable, but if you're going to be a professional, you're going to have to do some uncomfortable things. You might as well be a little uncomfortable intentionally (by taking off into known crosswinds and learning how the plane flies in a fairly controlled environment) before you're notifying ATC of your fuel remaining trying to find a calm runway somewhere in Oklahoma because the intended destination is above the max demonstrated crosswind.
I love all the knowledge you share about flying. A lot of good points in this video.
Thanks, Glad you enjoyed it!
Terrific Story! Let us know how we can help. I’m telling you….keep up this great work and it’ll pay off in your biz. Those seats look really great. Martin
Go buy a cub from Junior and tell him you heard about it on airplanes in the wild 😃 or just keep following
Dude get this on Spotify!
Great conversation, what an incredible story he's lived.
The fuel pump ‘smile’ on the lower cowl is the easy 185 tell tale.
I had a DPE call me a "promising young pilot" on my commercial checkride. I'm still riding that high. Now I'm working on my multi-engine and I'm back to hearing how bad I am, how I'm not progressing, etc. Now I'm riding that low haha
That’s funny. Humility is an interesting thing. Like how do you know if you’re being humble? Is it when you feel like crap?
These are great!! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Outstanding work interviewing these wise and experienced guys. Keep up the good work…my hunch is it will be great for your biz…
Thanks. Let’s hope so. The more it helps my business the more interviews we will be able to release. There is a significant expense to all of this.
Kirk is a living bush pilot legend! I was lucky enough to buy a 4 place cub from him several years ago and after spending a little time with him I made him sign it! After really seeing what is possible with the 4 seat cub we started building another, because what’s better than one cub? 2 cubs! With this new build Kirk has created another masterpiece! These 4 place cubs are just incredible to fly. Thanks for getting this interview and capturing a little bit of the Ellis story.
I hadn't heard of your channel until today, and I watched this entire podcast in one sitting. Well done!
Awesome, sorry for the interruption 😁
Hugh respect for Kirk Ellis. A gentle low profile man doing actually highly amazing stuff.
Excellent interview! Please keep them coming
Will do
This is so cool to get to hear from the guys we usually can only read about, you’re killing it!
Thanks. More to come
Kirk is such a gentleman and legend in the bush flying world. I wish he would do an interview like this once a week so we would have more of his knowledge and stories to glean from!!
I agree. I plan to get him in again at some point. In the mean time we do have some great guests coming up soon as well.
Another amazing video/interview. Kirk has built two planes for a buddy of mine here in Utah so it is cool to listen to his stories. I had watched the super cub hardcore before, truly an amazing family. And yes you make GREAT seats! Thanks and keep up the great work
Hey Jay, good to hear from you. How’s your bearhawk flying?
@@AirplanesInTheWild Daniel, I hang the wings in about 10 days, so not far from flying. Hope you are well.
What a legend Kirk Ellis is thank you for sharing the great knowledge and story’s. It’s wonderful you were able to document this. Thank you both 🙏🏻
It’s humbling to be able to sit down with guys like him. Thank you for watching
