Busy day at the falls! The Brooks River in Alaska’s Katmai National Park is home to the world’s highest concentration of brown bears, who show up en masse each summer to gorge themselves on salmon heading up the river to spawn.
The center of the action is Brooks Falls, midway up the relatively short Brooks River between Brooks Lake and Naknek Lake. The famous image of a bear perched on top of the falls with a salmon practically leaping into its mouth is ubiquitous in Alaskan photography.
