    I agree, STEM needs to remain STEM. Being "inclusive" is a social agenda, not scientific. Call me cynical, but follow the flow of money in our education system and you'll understand why I am opposed to including "A" and "R". Too often, I've seen young students take the arts route to get their degree, and then become frustrated when it does not translate into a career.

    3:09 - family obligations? Just curious, though, without your parents and grandparents, would you even have the opportunity to go to college to begin with? I know without my grandparents (who couldn't even DREAM of going to college because they were so poor), I'd be stuck in some factory doing the same, low paying job for the remainder of my life. So I don't see it as a burden or a hassle to have to care for them. That's what we Asians do. We take care of family because they took care of us when we needed to be taken care of.

    Including arts in the acronym to encourage new learners to approach stem is a good thing but overall I think steam is downfall. STEM toys used to include a good amount of actualy learning and information. With the addition of the A, most of what I see with steam branding is art toys with little educational value. I think the expanded acronym is just a marketing gimmick which is unfortunate and cheapens ever the stem marked toys

    Hello, I am currently looking for Post-Docs opportunities in the US. One of the labs that interest me is in UCSD (I am a STEM major). Were you able to spend some time at UCSD amid the pandemic ? What did you think of the facilities ? Of the teachers ? I am like you, get in, get the skills, get out. I am European and all this "American campus life" is too exotic to me. Albert Einstein. "I'm enough of an artist to draw freely on my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited; imagination encircles the world." Most people in the sciences make a critical mistake that stifles their development. Conflating drawing and painting as artforms with art itself. Art being the significant expression of man's interaction with their environment- a means of communication. Science stifles by getting the participant to engage in rule based systems, rigid dogmatic thinking is usually the end result. That type of thinking is not good for Science as a whole. However a steady diet of Art in Combination with Science creates a superior and creative scientist.

I have some questions I found that u r a pre-health student, and my dream is to be a doctor, but afraid of stepping a prehealth course... 1. is it really hard that studentsfrequently tired out, and have no time to have a rest? 2. are there many students who give up a prehealth course? 3.is it better to start prehealth course at first, or start when i get good gpa in freshman? it would be pleasure to give me an advice!

    • @jesm3086
      @jesm3086 3 года назад

      The questions aren't really clear to me, but I'll try to answer them. Is UCSD hard, and are students tired? The courses require a lot of reading and effort to be successful, and because UCSD is on the quarter system, the pace is much quicker than a semester system. I'm sure some students give up on pre-health, but this isn't unique to UCSD and is expected at any highly ranked University that challenges its students to be the best. I would start with easier courses your first quarter to get your routine and adjust to UCSD student life. If you take major courses first or last, the overall GPA will all even out in the end; keep in mind there is a separate GPA that includes your major courses only. Congratulations, and don't worry too much about the little details you will find your way at UCSD!
