I have had my Gravity 800 for two years and the plates are mostly burned up. Will the material inside be removable so I can use these plates instead?
I totally forgot I bought this as I was cleaning out a closet I found it about to install today as I’m ordering the stainless steel shelves
How do I order this kit?
the link to the website is in the description
you dont show how the screw are attach to the steel bottom or how they are hook under it
Getting ready to install this on my 560 now.
Thank God you came out with a drop in one!! Glad I waited 😅
Can this shelf hold an 18lb Brisket?
absolutely!
Do they have this for gravity 980
Worked like a charm. I did one thing differently: I used C-clamps before the part where you said installing the long wood would be difficult to install sides to the cooker. After the wood was install, I remove the clamps. Nice and ease.
I just got mine. Love that you use the original shelf.
Seems like a lot of work instead of just getting the LSS mods firebox. How is this any different / better then that one?
first off it isnt way more work it takes like 5 mins more time to do it right vs puting a bandaid on it and having more problems later. the 4 piece is wayyy better because it allows the stainless to move as it gets hot. if you dont know stainless move/warps wayyy more than regular steel so having separate pieces helps alot. the solid sleeve warps alot ive seen some that have enclose the space by almost half. the 4 piece does warp was well but its impossible for it to constrict the area because the plates sit inside channels and are held in by the hopper itself where the LSS is just hanging loose at the bottom and can realy constrict the space and cause the charcoal to bridge.
@@KlotesMods appreciate the info. Since all stainless steel will warp with high temps why not use a different material like actual fire bricks?
@@PeighDayRC because of the limited thickness that they can be and there is already ceramic fiber easiest thing to do is cover it with something thin enough to still work but protect the fiber and not flake away like the mild steel that comes with it like the factory plates do.
Curious why you went with the removable lid with knob vs an installed cover?
this was the original design way before anyone came up with the installed design but i still think this design holds up i feel like it seals better because the rubber gasket on this design seals against the fireblack gasket vs on the installed cover the rubber still has to seal on one side of the stainless cover and that rubber seems to be the issue of not sealing most of the time but it does great when up again the gasket.
@@KlotesMods For what its worth based on initial thoughts, I like this better because it can be cleaned far easier than an installed lid. I know a couple screws isn’t a big deal, and this one isn’t apparent when the lid is closed. I also like the idea of the hopper liner, although it seems a bit pricey relative to the firebox mod. Have you found there is enough breakdown in the hopper to justify this? The firebox is a no brainer bc there is no way allowing the mfrs walls to deteriorate leaving only the insulation/firebricks (depending on your iteration) is a good idea. Thanks for the vids and mods.
Did you take out the blocks of wood or just burn them with your next cook? 😂
i just forgot to take them out on the video. take them out before putting charcoal in they could cause bridging
Another mod for the Masterbuilt…. What is the true cost of the smoker?
Just received my order today! Fantastic fit and finish on every part. Can’t wait to install and cook. I highly recommend any of these upgrades right from the start as I wish I had done. Would’ve saved time and aggravation.
does it help with heat retention and temp swings on windy days?
it helps a ton on windy days keeps the heat in and saves charcoal
You made it the way it should have been! That's awesome!!
Why not replace with actual firebrick? Like the Chargriller has?
That's what I did 👍
Anybody know what that insulation is made of? The only thing I know of that could handle that level of heat is asbestos.
Hi there are these available in Australia?
we ship to australia. Klotesmods.com
Are you using the MBB firebox replacement kit? What's the size of those wooden pieces?
dont need the mbb replacement kit. just reuse the insulation with the stainless plates that i sell. if for some reason you break one of the pieces of insulation then yes i would by the replacement kit just for the the insulation
couldn't you have made it an inch shorter and not caused it to get caught on the firebox shutters storage pin or occlude access to your stowage below? great mod though.
that pin is only needed when the grill is going and the shelf is up. thats why i thought the depth was more important
Just got mine and installed with no issues. It's damn good!!! thanks again! I attached the new extension to the bottom two screws on the masterbuilt. Gives me more room between the table and the handle of the lid and seems just as stable :)
Klotes could of saved some money if their tool & die engineer would of designed the die set so that the stampings (panel) comes out with the holes in it. instead of using two pieces of steel (sleeves)
thats debatable. the cost to make a die set that your talking about would be thousands of dollars. i bend everything now with dies that i already owned before this so no additional cost. most of the cost of the part is the price of the stainless and either way you do it its not going to save any stainless cost and probably not save that much labor either. if your talking about eliminating one of the slides i could do that now but that takes away the ability to have the opening totally open vs having one of the slides fixed to the main part.
Is there a fix for the latch pulling on the heat shield? Seems odd that they put the latch hook on the heat shield without anchoring it too the lid structure which is more sturdy. The tension causes to hear shield to bend and the lid seal to not be as tight as it could be.
i had the latch totally come off on my 560. i drilled a couple holes in the latch and ran 2 screws all the way threw both the heat shield and the lid itself. working great now
@@KlotesMods do you have a picture?
Installed this today on my 800 - followed the video and no issues whatsoever. These replacement plates are substantially thicker than the pathetically thin factory plates. Also, no friggin way that insulation is going to survive once the factory sheetmetal burns away. It is fragile and the charcoal/lump moving against it will tear it up. My factory plates burnt thru after 12 cooks, most of which were low and slow so they didn't see much high heat at all. Masterbuilt is full of crap. Thanks Klotes!
Added mine yesterday. Great fit, thanks for including everything like the right screws and gasket material. Easy install
Thanks! glad it all went well
Mine did not come like that. Only came with 3 pieces. Is this a old model?
what model of grill do you have?
@@KlotesMods never mind. I just seen this is for the 1050 and 800. I just got my package last Thursday. I ordered a lot of pieces from you. Mine is the 560. I’m Devon Davis. I ordered the drip tray, drip trey holders, ash bucket piece and the vent for the back
Love all the mods I bought. Especially the new ash pan grate. Really made a big difference
@@TheOutdoorTracMan great to hear! let me know if you have any more questions
Whats the covers dimensions and thickness?
I did this to my 800....makes a better seal AND it keeps all the soot and creosote out of the hopper lid.
You should do the same thing for char griller 980
I just bought mine. I have the 800 so I heard if you don't have a great seal. Then when you turn off the grill, you lose more charcoal. So sealing is important. Plus I see a lot of dirty grills from it.
I like your brackets way better that the stock ones on the 1050. Masterbuilt made the shelves too close to the handle
You should add what size drill bit to use to make the holes for the 8 bolts. I thought maybe using one of the self tapping screws would work but they seem to bit just a touch too small.
@@PAUmerica I think I might have used a 1/16" but just to get a hole started and then let the self drill screw do the rest.
Thanks. I used an 11/64 but for the boots
just finished my install ! PERFECT!
Just installed mine and it looks great! Shipping was quick, quality is great! Have confidence in ordering, I’m glad I purchased from Klotes!
thanks!
Nate these are GREAT products. Constructive criticism please list your site as text at beginning middle and end of video. I have watched all your videos and only hear you mention where to buy one, but its something-mods so not very specific. I have a 1050 and like your 560 vent over your competitors. Do you offer a vent for 1050??? Please list site in text.
my video editing skills are non existent lol i listed on every video in the description there is a live link there. yes i do have a vent for the 1050. here is the website if you cant find it klotesmods.com
Thanks and I ordered the damper. That appears be the most practical damper and similar to what I use on my propane burner and chunk smoker
Will this work on the 800
yes it fits all 3 models
What size holes did you drill in the back?
the screws are self drilling need to drill holes. the screw are a #6
You might want to add using a face mask or respirator when working with that fiber gasket.
I followed the directions in your video for the 560 and the knob seems to be too tall. When I shut the hopper cover, the top of the cover hits the knob about 1/4 inch before the lid makes contact with the gasket and closes. I have the original gaskets. Is this correct, or do I need to find a small (shorter) knob? Thanks
email me klotesmbmods@gmail.com i would like to see pics of how you installed it
@@KlotesMods Thanks for getting back to me. I just emailed you the pics of my install.
@@KlotesMods I am also having this issue on my 560. Email has been sent.
@@yambor44 i havnt gotten any emails. i looked in my junk mail as well. please resend to klotesmods@gmail.com
@@KlotesMods I just re-sent it.
Great mod, I am looking at buying an 800 soon. Have masterbuilt actually contacted you at all regarding any of these mods? They make total sense.
Any advice on how to get the creosote off of the the top of the hopper where the rubber gasket sits so I can get your gasket material to stick?
i had the same problem i took a metal putty knife scraped it as good as i could and then used lacquer thinner to clean it. depending which model you have would depend on how heavy you go with the lacquer thinner. if you have the ceramic finish (shiny)there no need to worry about it you can use as much lacquer thinner as you want. if it just powder coat (dull finish) just pour some on a paper towel enough to wet the towel but not soak it and wipe it clean just where the gasket sticks
@@KlotesMods thanks! I have the newer ceramic version. I used a carbide gasket scraper and it took all of it off without so much as a scratch to the ceramic! Just hit it with a little alcohol and bam! I even used the scraper to get the stuff that had dripped down by the ash pan door but went much lighter pressure and still not a scratch. Come payday I will be ordering some of your mods especially the firebox and hopper lid mods now that I know I can get that fire gasket to stick like it was going a new grill.
@@johnnymissfire8464 great to hear it worked for you!
Where can I find your mods?
@@richmayne596 I believe it's klotesmods.com
Very nice!
Nicely done sir! I'd like to get this more than the one that LSS sells..
I like this one better but ease of use will get lss Going to get his grate/fan protector and his slide air with fan protector but have 2 months to decide on bent
Great mod!
This looks awesome, how far does it extend it 3” or so? I just ordered your firebox mod and charcoal grate with fan protector. I think this will be my next purchase
its an 8" shelf from the factory with this mod its 15" so extends it 7"
@@KlotesMods Oh wow. Ok, thanks!
From this video and your website, it’s clear you’re intimately knowledgeable about these smokers. I’m wondering why everyone out there is installing SS liners in the burn box (at least the 560) because of supposed burn through and or rusting but you don’t have it. From the descriptions in your website it’s obvious you only sell what seems to be really needed. Is the firebox fix all hype? Or is your firebox kit basically the same, but 4 separate panels rather than a complete liner like the LSS liner?
my firebox kit is basicly the same but better. i feel like the sleeve is like a bandaid where you covering up the issue (the steel) whereas mine you discard the steel and replace it with the stainless. the whole issue with the steel getting holes throught it is because it gets super heated which causes the carbon in the steel to come out and flake off. it looks like rust but its not its from the heat. stainless has way less carbon in it thats why is works so well. all of this is to keep the ceramic fiber insulation (firebrick)from getting exposed and getting into your food. all of this was found out within weeks of the 560 first being released people complained about it then about 6 months in masterbuilt finally addressed it with a story that i i dont really believe that its suppose to do that and expose the insulation that stuff is nasty i know because you have to cut it to make my firebox mod work and you get all itchy like fiberglass from it just cutting it which tells me its going to get on your food if its ezposed thats why i sell it. now my 4 piece design allows the stainless to move when it heats up because stainless moves alot more than mild steel does when heated plus an added feature it all fits in the same spot designed by masterbuilt for the mild steel which it sits in channels on the top and the bottom and it helps keep it from warping. no it still warps just not near as much as the one piece design. ive seen some really warped one piece that really end up constricting the space which could easily cause bridging with the charcoal and your fire go out hope this helps nathan
