How I Categorize My Vintage Chainsaws
I use to have a cook stove semilunar to that one. I don't know what happened to it. I think someone walked off with it
The problem is the bean counters, share-holders, and planned-obsolescence.
Those same situations caused McCulloch to fail and go out of business.
What is worth than darkness? . The kerosene lamp smell. The cat didnt eat the food when i used this
In kerosene lamps, don't use kerosene. Use super refined lamp oil and you won't have any smell and can be used indoors with no problem. Your kitty will be OK with this solution.
@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 thanks. I did it, but its hungary. Its worse than kerosene was 50 years ago
I tried one brand of the lamp oil that still had an odor when burning and switched to another brand that has no smell and I use the lamps in my 10x20' shed all the time and even in the house at times.
Along about the time the 034 came about all the saw companies decided there should be cheap homeowner garbage and tha mostly metal pro stuff that they charge an arm and leg for. And Stihl parts are ridiculously priced.
When I first received my 034, I thought for sure it was just another cheapo plastic saw for light farm and homeowner use. STIHL actually sold the 034 as a pro saw, even with all the substandard parts and poor design. You are right about absurd parts prices too. I would never buy any new STIHL power equipment.
Don’t think I remember seeing a Coleman stove with the gas tank on the side of the stove. Must be a real old one. I started using them in the ‘50’s.
Coleman stoves always used a front mounted fuel tank. The stove I show that has the side mounted tank was made by American Gas Machine (AGM).
I just crank up my generator and connect it up to our electrical system. The key to any generator is to put it to bed, correctly, so it will be ready the next time you need it. After Hellene, I changed the oil in my generator and filled it up with premium non-ethanol gas. Before that, I ran all of the ethanol gas out of the tank and fuel lines. I let it nun on the stabilized non ethanol gas for about five minutes before I put it away in my shop. On a Coleman stove - the generator is “ up to light, down to burn”. Never have forgotten after 60 odd years, have I?
😀👍🏼😊👍🏼😇👍🏼
Those old stoves are cool! Thanks for the video Sir!😊
Old gas stoves and lanterns are interesting and useful at times too. I know you like them both. Hope all is going well for you.
I'm starting to watch your videos over again cuz I like them so much thank you for the video
Thanks for watching.
Great overview of KampKook stoves. I had no idea they were making camp stoves in the 20's. I just went through a 4 day power outage and used a camp stove to get by until the power was restored. These old stoves are a gamechanger when the power goes out. I have a video coming out on an old 60's Bernzomatic single burner that I'll probably post this week or next. p.s. I am out of "restricted mode" now and can finally comment on RUclips videos. It's been a long 8 months...
We have been lucky so far as to power outages. The longest one was 30 minutes. You can see I am ready to see, heat and cook with my vintage lanterns, heaters and stoves if that changes. Good to hear that you are not restricted anymore. I will watch for your next video.
I did watch you lantern video, although I wasn't able to comment at the time. Good video. I have a lantern video coming out as well and will direct them your way for a more complete history lesson.
Thanks.
Those are some nice old stoves sir! I've got my grandparents old 3 burner from the 70s but thats some nice stuff! I use it for camping but cook on wood stove if power goes out! See ya next time. Happy new year!
We like our old stoves and lanterns, especially when the power goes out. Happy New Year to you too !
Awesome video thank you for video enjoy it very much
Thanks for the nice comment and for watching.
You sure do have all kinds of neat old stuff, man. Nice hat, too, sir.
We like and use our vintage junk !
Sounds badass! Cuts very well, too! Here is a question for anyone. Why does a .325 chain suck?
.325 chainsaw chain was developed for low horsepower homeowner saws. It has small cutting teeth which makes it less likely to kick back. It cuts very smoothly, but doesn't cut as good as 3/8" low profile chainsaw, which is made for the same low power homeowner saws. I don't see any need for having two different size chains for the same cutting circumstances. The 025 performs quite well after I did some modifications to it and a decent carb installed. In stock form it was barely better than useless.
Love the “ old” stuff, love it!!
Old stuff is what we like best and also use for doing our work and chores on the homestead.
Great video. Is it possible to fit a decompression valve and a fuel purge/pump/primer? I know it would take a bit of work but is it possible/worth doing? Keep up the good work.
The best and easiest way to put a decompression valve on an 034 is to replace the cylinder and piston assembly with one for an 036. The cylinder /piston kit bolts right on, the cylinder has the port for the decomp valve, raises the displacement to 61.5 cc's and increases the hp and torque a fair amount. The top cover of the 034 would need a hole put in it for the decomp valve to stick through or put an 036 cover on it that has the hole already and a decomp valve. It should be relatively easy to install a purge valve also.
OK. Thank you for the reply, sounds great.
Beautiful saw well cared for.
Lombard saws are unusual and an interesting part of chainsaw history. This particular saw is a nice and great running example.
I could be wrong but over mic it sounds like your 034 isnt reving out all the way maybe 1200RPM or so I run a 24" with no issues and have a friend who runs a 28 with a skip tooth that I have seen process softwood timber over 36" in diameter. Have you taken the time to compression checked it by any chance? If your compression test shows lower than 90 on the first pull your piston is probably cooked 034's are fairly high compression saws and you should see 130-140 on a healthy powerhead. A lot of 034s have been set up as race saws and ported because you can do an 036 head conversion or even convert them to fuel injection but definately should not be bogging with a quality sharp 24" chain.
Not all 034's are created equal. From comments I have received about them, the German built ones are much better than the US built ones. Many have also commented that running any bar over 20" is too much for them. That has been my experience. The original owner of my saw and his dad bought two of them new. I repaired them back to operating condition, ran them both and the performance was identical, neither work well with a longer bar. Stihl made an 034 Super version of this saw and has 61.5 cc's instead of 57 like the standard 034. It is a much better saw, has power and torque. The 034 Super has the same top end as the 036. As for my saw, it has 140 psi compression and the bore and piston are in excellent condition. One thing of interest is that almost all comments about not running any bar over 20"s came from pro loggers that used them as work saws. I did a muffler mod on mine, which improved the performance a tiny bit. The 034 works great, revs out well as long as it is cutting small wood, branching or cutting up rotten wood. When I need to do some real hard work, I just get out one my McCulloch's.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing
You bet !
I don't use my saw all that frequently so I run VP Racing pre mixed stabilized fuel that way if my saw sits for a while it doesn't foul my carb definitely expensive but worth how convenient it is and the peace of mind that it is mixed perfectly with extremely high quality oil and fuel. If you have a station that sells 110,E85 & various race gas and also has their own premix that usually your best bet for getting high quality stabilized fuel.
I am lucky that I have a source for fuel that sells only non- ethanol fuel in regular-midgrade and premium. I would not recommend using VP fuel. It burns dirty, leaving a lot of deposits. I would suggest watching Chickanic and Richard Flagg's videos on it. Chickanic has a power equipment dealer and repair shop, and Richard flag is a professional saw repairman. Both talk about and show why it isn't any good. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you again for the video very good video
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I got a new tablet so I got to watch all my videos to catch up with you guys thank you for the video
We like running our vintage saws and being in the great outdoors !
Wow you got your train set up so nice I like how you got the bridges up and the lights up and everything thank you for sharing have a Happy New Year's
My son actually built the layout and did an excellent job. Happy New Year !
Thanks for the video. Very informative. I have a West German 034 Ave I bought in 1984 and still use it. It does not have a plastic chain cover or plastic case on the bottom. It has been a great song over the years and still runs strong.
From what I have learned, the German built 034's were much better than the US built ones.
{SUB} , Me likem plenty good.
It looks like you have some bad weather in your area. It has been cool/cold, here but no snow yet. I 6:51 hope you had a good Christmas. My grandson loved the BB gun that I gave him. I hope you have a great New Year.
Our weather here in the PNW has been typical, very wet and rainey and some heavy windstorms too. I have 3 new blowdowns, but they are smaller trees thankfully. We had an extra nice Christmas this year and hope for a better new year, as this year was not the greatest.
Great layout
The Marklin layout came out great.
That’s for sure ruclips.net/video/8cQD_cUDizE/видео.html
You have a nice layout there. Thanks for watching our vintage train video.
Just picked up and got to use an 034 for the first time today and going from an 18" Poulon Pro the power difference is absolutely night and day. Definately more than capable of cutting things much larger than I would be comfortable felling and I think it is a great homestead style saw due to how easy they are to work on and service.
The 034 works great with 20" bar or smaller. They don't have enough torque to run anything longer. Keep the revs up and the 034's cut great.
I especially enjoyed seeing electric locos operating from the first style of Maerklin catenary ! Your layout is quite charming and attractive with the old Faller buildings before plastic versions came. along !
I worked part time for a train store that sold Marklin as well as Lionel etc. I did maintenance, repairs and sometimes restoration of vintage toy trains. People would bring in collections for sale at times and I would get some of the stuff for my collection. Since I was only interested in the early postwar era, over time I rounded up some really nice trains buildings and accessories.
The mechanical noises everything makes are awesome! I recommend a round balance board for Mrs. O's ankle rehab. I have a wonky ankle myself.
The old mechanically operated stuff is what we like, no modern quiet electronic crapola for us. Thanks for the tip on the balance board for Mrs. O.
I just love your Marklin layout . It is so awesome. Were did you fine all your building. That’s one thing I am having problems finding at least the old ones. I was lucky enough to get an old train station and engine shed. I have been collecting Marklin Z since 1988. And couple years of HO Marklin. Thank you for sharing your layout. It’s awesome.🚂🚂
Thanks for the nice comment. I started collecting Marklin HO many years ago. The buildings came from collections that I bought, there again, a long time ago.
Great collection and beautiful modeltrain layout in 1950s style. 😀👍
Vintage is best !
I have Lionel, Marx and American Flyer pre -war. But I have a warm place in my heart for Marklin they always worked well, and were very well made.
We also have prewar and postwar trains as well. Check out some of older Christmas Toy Train videos and you will see some of them in action. Marklin trains are high quality and well made trains for sure.
Nice video. I got my first Märklin train exactly 60 years ago. And it still run.
Marklin trains if well maintained will last just about forever !
The hum of lights completes the vibe! Dyn-a-mite
I just recently discovered Menards has ho train sets. I have an extra room. I do model cars but there's room for a train set. Been thinking about it.
Look forward to the train post every year!
Really nice setup! My brothers had trains from the 60s n 70s! They always had big layouts set for Christmas! Brings me back couple years! You have a merry Christmas!
Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you !
Sehr schön! Merry Christmas aus Deutschland! 😀
Beautiful train setup with all the buildings, lights, bus, etc. The felt looks great for grass. As always, thank you so very much for this wonderful video. It brings back memories for me when I was just old enough to have an electric train. It was an oval track with one engine and car, all operated by a two-wire transformer. The more I look, the more items I find that you took the time to install. It is truly an amazing amount of work of art. MERRY CHRISTMAS to you Mr. Obsoletes the "Engineering."
Thank you for the nice comment and for watching. We used a European made grass mat to emulate the correct color of their terrain. I had collected vintage Marklin trains and accessories over a long period of time and my oldest son, who is also a big vintage train collector, built the layout so we could play with all our old trains. He did a superb job. Obsolete is best for our family !
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 Your oldest son is an extremely good builder. I think his work on that layout is beyond compare. You are a very lucky man to have such as fine skilled family. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I am lucky to have a talented son who also enjoys collecting and operating vintage toy trains.
@@mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 You sure are!
I really love your vintage trains. merry Christmas!
Thanks for watching. Mery Christmas to you and a Happy New Year too !
What a ton of fun! Merry Christmas and happy new year!
The Marklin layout is our best one yet. My oldest son built it for our family to enjoy and like to share it with others via the internet. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
So glad you were able to make another Christmas video!! Merry Christmas and God Bless!!
We really like to showcase our vintage trains and look forward to making our annual train video. Thanks for watching and commenting. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !
I have 2 wild thing saws. One has a lot of use on it and starts on the 3rd pull every time and cuts good. The other one looks practically brand new. I have it running and cutting excellent now, it just leaks bar oil fairly bad. Figured out the issue with that and ordering the part soon
It is interesting to get comments about the Wild Things, especially about some that gave good service. Most didn't. I would suggest going back and watching some of my older videos on them where I show the modifications that greatly improved there performance.
@ I absolutely will! I don’t use them a lot or make a living with them. Them ol saws just remind me of my dad and when I was a kid. He cut a lot of wood in the winter for extra money and he always had an ol wild thing. I guess u can say I collect for memories
Neat family memories !
Thanks for taking the time to put that together and show us the old school trains and hand built stuff that they did years ago such quality Merry Christmas to you all and happy new year I am just guessing but I'm guessing it probably takes two to three months to set that up good job
Thanks for watching and commenting. We started working on the Marklin layout in July. It is very satisfying working with very high quality vintage trains and accessories. The equipment is operated by solenoids and electric motors, many with gearboxes to make things move. Merry Christmas and a Happy new year to you and family !
that is a really neat layout you have really enjoyed the video,,,merry Christmas to you and yours ,best regards .
This is the best layout we have. My oldest son built the complete layout so our whole family can enjoy it. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you !
Merry Christmas!
Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you !
Thanks for the memories. Prayers for continued improvement of Mrs. O. Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the nice comments. Mrs. O is finally healed. We greatly appreciated all the prayers and nice comments we have received since her accident. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you !
