I have a collecting problem. I do it with everything. I do actually struggle a lot to control myself to the point of exhausting myself enough to be depressed. I've been getting physical games but I know that there is no point because it's all going digital anyway. I guess my brain tells me, if you have physical, it's yours, no one can take it away, and it's true. But at the same point, what's the point. I play them once or twice and that's it, no matter how much I love them. I'm trying so hard to stop. Actually, it's the main reason I came across this video. The logic part of my brain wants to stop and just enjoy games, the other part wants to enjoy but also collect. I assume many people are also like this. It's f'ed up.

I don't understand why people say "why pay hundreds of dollars for something thats not worth it". Everything is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. So apparently it is worth it. Just because it's not worth it to you doesn't mean the items arn't worth it.

Honestly, services like NSO, least the base tier, are a good way to get people to play retro games, since it already include with the online and you can try each game at anytime, and can get people interested in those games and the history of the consoles, which could later make people interested in the later generations of consoles.

I collect games because of the unique experiences I get doing so as a younger person with no nostalgia towards it. Sure, I could just play it digitally (and may for demo purposes or for more unaffordable physical titles), but doing it at a very gradual pace physically is so much fun. I've bonded with people over video games since I started playing as a little kid, and this gives me a whole new light into that as an adult. Sure, I have games from my childhood that I'm fond of, but listening to people talk about games I had never heard of in the same way has made me interested in seeing it for myself. In some cases, I agreed that it was amazing, and some I haven't. Just knowing about a lot of games all across generations has allowed me to bond with pretty much anybody I talk to that has enjoyed video games at some point in their lives. Yes, that would probably be the same if I just played the games digitally, but I feel like the physical aspect gives me a greater appreciation for the evolution of gaming. I also feel like I would spend more time than I'd like playing games if I played them all online anyway since it would have to be on the same computer I do my work on. It kind of feels like people talking about how they're less stressed or depressed because they only use their electronics outside of their bedroom. I play every game I buy physically nowadays, so no flooded backlog and every game I play is one I've wanted to play for a very long time. If I feel like I didn't like it very much or definitely won't play it again, I'll give it to someone else I think might like it. Vice versa, now I have people who would give or trade me games that they think I'd like. By the end, I plan on having a smallish-medium sized collection that I have very carefully curated to my best interests because like you mentioned, I don't see the point in stuff that doesn't mean anything to me taking up space. I just don't want that to keep me from the exploring that I love doing. Thanks for the video and/or reading through my lengthy comment lol. I really appreciated hearing from your point of view and it definitely gives some food for thought.

I started having this philosophical realization a few years ago as well, noticing how we don't really own anything in our life, not even our own bodies, and also started noticing how much I was suffering by obsessing so much over the illusion of owning or getting things. What matters the most is the experiences we have and how those experiences inspire us to create new ones for new generations. Great video man.

im gonna ramble for a bit so excuse this but, quite literally a few hours today i had come to this conclusion because i've been very depressed, i guess, or nostalgic for the past and today i had a dream where i went to the maroon bells and it felt sort of nostalgic and i felt like a child again. sort of like this place has been with me my entire life, and this is my instinctual knowledge from since i was a baby or a child. i've never been to the maroon bells but i feel like i've maybe seen a picture of them once in a preschool classroom or my elementary school classroom and that's why i associate them so heavily with my childhood. i essenstially just came to the decision that everything isn't different, it's just me. my mind has changed and that is a huge differrence, but everything around me, it's still the same. even if it changes, i change with it, and that's beautiful. the maroon bells are still there and i can visit them anytime 2 hours away, so i realized that you just have to live in the moment. live how you want to live, live how your child self wanted you to live. do things you did as a kid, do things you want to do because you want to experience new things. i got on youtube and this showed up on my recommended and i read the title and my mind was just blown because what are the chances that some random life revelation shows up on my feed. anyway yeah thanks for this cool video, i think i might be going thru psychosis i hope to go to the maroon bells this summer and cry my eyes out maybe

Great video topic, but I feel your writing to be a bit amateurish. You give all these great quotes but then say "this is what this quote means" as if to prove you get it like it's a high school english essay... The quotes speak for themselves, give them room to do so.
