In 1961 it got sung by a computer, which is the version normally you would hear in creepy videos in TikTok or RUclips

From memory, I set up the sampling equipment for my father to use at The Sound Preservation Association of Tasmania from their second best deck (their best was display only, only to be utilised for maintenance sort of thing). It was likely grabbed at 16bit 48KHz, possibly on an M-Audio card of some description, there could have been a filter between the playback and the capture, my father was quite big on doing that when format shifting. It's quite some time ago, I didn't jot down the sampling details, my father is no longer with us so I can't ask him about the other side of things.

I used to think it was scary but the more I thought about the lyrics the less creepy it got for me.

At the same time, some dude said the word "bicycle built for two" inspired the writer to create the lyrics of the song

@@adler_dot That's pretty much the answer, people on tiktok took the version that was sung by the IBM 704, which when you look at the true meaning behind it was a technological milestone for its time, and people on tiktok decided to take it out of context and use it as creepy music. Its kind of sad really because the computer singing is actually pretty cool.
