Not every trans identified person has a dead name. A "dead name" is the name usually assigned at birth that may be changed later on when a person transitions or begins to identify with a gender other than the one given at birth. A good long pair of tongs -- for reaching for stuff when you're semi-mobile. :) In terms of loss -- yes-- I'm 52 -- but it has been gradual and drawn out -- not acute, and it is definitely eclipsed by my sense of joy in finally feeling free. Best wishes for your surgery.

I usually use the term "birth name" as opposed to "dead name." I know that some people are more adamant on one or the other. "Former name" is also one I have used. I agree with you on that for the most part who I was in the past leads to who I am now. Thank you for your videos and posts Carver.
phoenixresurge I also always say my "Birth Name". Just yesterday I met another person here at the conference whose first name is Tara and I super excited to say "hey, we share the same Birth name"...
I think it cool when you do come across someone who has the same name (or nicknames) as yours if it is something that you don't come across a lot.

I really need a chest binder my parents are not accepting and they don't support me at all I am scared to ask them, because they wouldn't love me anymore I can't one because I don't have enough money.
Everytime I come here to watch a video I learn so much more and realize how courageous the trans community folks are. Thank you Carver for sharing this journey.
