    My Dad Morton Lewis was a MP with the 10th Mountain. He trained at Camp Hale and in Italy was charged with bringing General Hays and his Command into the Battlegrounds Prior too and during the assaults. I am proud of his service. He raised a skiing family to this very day.

    My Grandfather Leon Burrows and his twin brother Lawrence Burrows were both in the 10th. My grandfather was a sharpshooter and my uncle was a rifleman. They both fought through the Po valley. Unfortunately Lawrence was KIA on the first day of the assault on the town. I remember hearing about the 3 day battle because Leon was unable to recover his twins remains for 3 days and when the battle was over having to dig through the body piles to find his brother. They went through hell to try and end that war. Rest In Peace Leon and Lawrence.

The game has been made very realistic, so i think it would be a new way to visualise how the saboteurs might have felt during the operation.

    • @johnberkery7326
      @johnberkery7326 4 года назад

      @@Nattleby I am sure that is true, they must have known each other, my grandfather worked for a newspaper and they published a memorial book of letters he wrote and received, he was a mortar man and a letter from a Sgt Gogolin of the mortar squad said he was with two other soldiers setting up their mortar at the beginning of the attack when the three were killed by a German mortar round, never knew him of course but he was still always my hero growing up, such a shame the war ended just a few months later, but they played a part in that happening.

    • @Nattleby
      @Nattleby 4 года назад

      John Berkery Another Famous story from Company G was that of Maurice “Speed” Murphy. The platoon was holed up in a schoolhouse attached to a church. Murphy, and a few other guys were in a bathroom on the second story taking cover from German Fire. One of the guys fumbled with a live grenade and dropped it on the floor. Murphy grabbed it and went to throw it out the window when he saw a nun and school children huddled directly beneath him. Instead of throwing it, he held it out the window against the wall. The blast took his arm clean off, but no one else was hurt. Talk about “Taking one for the team”!!! 😱He survived the war and was close friends with my Dad. That whole company was full of heroes.

    I went and visited the hydro plant at Vermork June 23rd 2019..i can tell you it was very humbling being there know what went on with these fellas..the sight of the plant from afar then crossing the bridge knowing the lads had to climb down then up....with all their kit, then press on and carry out their mission successfully was a fantastic achievement. Then down to Mœl where the ferries are moored, it is still exactly the same now as it was back then in 1943 minus the D/F Hydro of course, but her sister ship was there she was used in the film "Hero's Of Telemark" Probably the most important & successful commando raid ever...it stopped the Nazis in their tracks with them making the atom bomb!!

    Sorry for a few mispronunciations and the lake name. It’s also hard to explain there story in the 10 minute requirement. Something I wish I had gone into more detail with was that the awaiting Grouse team went through very harsh conditions, eating moss to stay alive while waiting for the gunnerside team. Thank you guys for watching and appreciating what they had sacrificed.
