These are one of the best receivers of their era, outperforming many modern analog & SDR receivers
Good video mate. I yhink that because these come pre-loaded with EVERYTHING,....you are scanning such a massive selection of frequencies tbat you miss a hell of a lot. I have a digital scanner and have narrowed down my search bank so that im only scanning stuff i am going to pick up. I got a whistler because of my budget and to be hoenst they seem much rasier to use then the unidens
Just bought a brand new used one still on wrapper from ebay.. waiting on the pc cable for proscan and it will go ontop of my sds200e ..
ok but xhdata is almost 3 times less expensive...and still does almost the same
@robsonenduro3316 you have a good point my friend !
Which SDR are you using?
@@MrAtlantis95 sdr play rspdx and sdr console v3
Thanks for the review. That wil be a SDRPlay or a Web-88 SDR
Thank you for this interesting demonstration, and may I ask for your advice on why I could not received a local (UK BBC radio 4) 200KHz AM broadcast, while it is received loud and clear on vintage Selena, Sony ICF-7601L and on NRD-535. All these radios are placed in the same location, using the same antennae (long wire and other). In fact, the portable radios pick up this broadcast with hardly any antenna extension, while the IC-R8600 renders nothing but (50Hz) noise, and this is despite trying all the permutations on turning on 'noise reduction', attenuation, reducing RF gain. Am I doing anything wrong? Thank you.
@eliasragi7472 Hi, this may be a possible fault...

@@onthebench3606 Thank you.
Nice looking radio in black. Do you need a licence to operate USB LSB?
@mm7909 no license required on cb eu frequencies
@onthebench3606 Thanks for replying. I've read on line that you still need a foundation level licence to transmit on LSB and USB
@mm7909 not in the UK on cept-mid block
@@onthebench3606 sorry I don't know what that means. Please forgive me my ignorance lol
Thank you for this demonstration. May I ask about reception on the 'LW': while I can receive loud and clear an AM broadcast at, for example, 200KHz on a Sony portable (ICF-7601L) with even a barely extended antenna, I get nothing but noise on the R8600 (long wire and Discone antennae). Also, it is only through WFM on R8600 that I get intelligible reception; on the FM mode it is largely noise. Only the WFM seems equivalent to 'ordinary' other radios' FM. Am I doing anything wrong?
Forsale??
@@trx250rpuma4 not currently matey...
The name of manufacturer is 'Dirland' 👍
Thanks for pointing this out! 👍
i would be avalive to by it but in Romania the cryptocomunists authoritys use tetra knoing that it cost a lot off moneny, how may i use it
No tetra ,no god🙄
I can't hear much benefit with the sdr on receive. They both pull in similar background noises.
Does anyone know what 6 pin lead to buy for this radio ..?
Hello, I've a question, If I may.. I have what appears to be a Super Star s3900G HP, has the 6 band selector but the label on it reads: 148GTL/DX. The pc has number EPT 360013B. I am trying to figure it its as some have said, a Jupiter or Dirland 3900G HP. It has twin finals ar rear, with a heatsink and a 3 wire variable pot onto the VR13. Can you shed some light on this,? I'd appreciate it. I could send pics, but I don't see how.
wbfm is the same . you cant adjust the filters or the bandwidth . i use a sdr program to do fmdx
Tecsun 660 does not mute while tuning. Period.
What a pristine example of a 2006 you have there! Have two of them myself but the best one would be a 7 out 10 example. They are very modifiable and repairable. Yours probably could benefit from a good re-capping.
What microphone model those it use.
@@elgranpiro any Uniden wired mic will work
I am new here, what is that called that shows the frequencies, showing the numbers and where can I get one.
@elgranpiro it's a frequency counter, try ebay 👍
The only reason I can think of for excluding DMR is the licensing fee which would otherwise add to the cost of the radio. Poor philosophical decision making.
Hallo. Mein Icom ic r 8600 hat das selbe Problem bei Antennen Eingang 1. Da habe ich öfters einfach kein Signal.
I can't believe there are frequencies that are illegal to monitor in the uk. We can listen to whatever we want in the states.
I’ll stick to my whistler dmr and my ICOM icr9000
Where abouts in the uk are you mate
@@Down-x4u hi, I'm near the west Midlands 👍
@onthebench3606 just getting into scanning brought icom r8500 but don't seam to be picking up much
nice
Hi there, I'm a complete newbie about radios, but I'm getting into it. I’ve seen an advertisement recently that caught my eye of a Realistic 400 pro-2005. I would like to buy it, but I kind of remember watching a video saying that most of the frequencies nowadays, especially police, fire fighters, etc., are digital. I'm not sure, but I think the 400 pro-2005 is not digital, right? So, it would be fair to say this model of scanner is not that worthy anymore, isn't it? Am I correct? What could I still do with this kind of model? Thanks in advance.
@aldo3ortiz Hi , if you're in the UK then this radio will only receive ham, taxis, and services. No police, nothing will receive that in the UK..
@@onthebench3606 Thank you, I really appreciate the input.
too bad you cant just scan for dmr like analog....at least not on the 436! what a headache!
Wish it wasn’t a $75 unlock. Paid enough for the scanner and then the $30 for the waterfall. Buy all the unlocks and add ons it’s pushing $1k.
@@danielhildebrand6892 it's too expensive!!
@@onthebench3606 agreed. When it was launched you were supposed to get all 3 unlocked at $33 USD a piece. Then it was $50 now $75 as the scanner is getting older and already has a successor in the works. It’s an amazing scanner none the less. I retired my BC780XLT that has been in service nearly 24/7 I bought the first week it launched. I ended up buying an Anytone 878D as I’m a licensed Ham and needed DMR Transmit for some local NETs. So it was easier to pay that over $75 to use the scanner to monitor. That and DMR is kinda fun to operate on lol!!
One more beautiful than the other
Amazing receiver
That Why I have a Sdrplay SRP Duo,
Waiting for the review the aor will win had the icom icr 8500 now have the aor 6000 icom too niosey on hf
TGID is Talk Group ID.
Just found one of these for $5 at a thrift store.
Icom R75 very good receiver if one uses the RF gain to moderate signal, the receiver is extreamly hot, dialing back RF gain makes it super...
Don’t think there is a deadkey on ssb 😂
That second level of APF/N is a miracle worker. 8500 is a keeper for many of us.
Отличный приемник. Поставьте модуль DSP, сможете использовать шумопонижение и режекторный фильтр.
IC-R75 is one of the radios I will never sell. Fully loaded it with filters and the UT-106 DSP. Such a great radio to this day!
I’ve got the JRC 545 got it 2005 and it still works brilliant one of the best radios I’ve had and I started in radios in the 70s thanks for the video the old man in Stoke
