Justinas Leveika, New Tour Divide FKT!
Eight years ago Mike Hall made history and etched his name in the record books, and in the hearts of an entire community, with his record setting Tour Divide time of 13d 22h 51m. Since then, hundreds of others have lined up for the Tour Divide grand depart to chase his dot to the US/Mexico border. This year, on his second attempt, Jusinas Leveika became the first person to best Mike Hall's record with an official time of 13d 2h 16.
Justinas entered the world of ultra bikepack racing in 2021with a 4th place finish at Transpyrenees. Since then, he's racked up too many podium finishes to list, in the hardest bikepack races our sport has to offer. Last year, at Tour Divide, Justinas came in 2n...

Having accomplished so much, he now finds himself in a unique position and wondering wh...

    My understanding is the GDMBR, designed by The American Cycling Association, is a MTB route from Banff Canada to Antelope Wells NM. It can be ridden by anyone. The Tour Divide is a race that follows the exact route of the GDMBR. No deviation from the route is allowed. You can ride the GDMBR and make any route changes you desire. Some do to avoid the nasty mud sections. If you’re not racing you can call it whatever you like. A popular RUclips cyclist, Ryan Van Duzer, is competing in the 2024 Tour Divide. He stated he is starting in Banff. I’m not sure what the guy being interviewed is talking about with the TD starting in Jasper MT.

    • @bikesordeath
      @bikesordeath Месяц назад

      He didn't say that the TD starts in Jasper. The official GDMBR by the ACA starts in Jasper, Canada. You can verify this on their website. There is a lot of confusion out there between the GDMBR and the Tour Divide which is a race that mostly follows the GDMBR. Often people will conflate the two and when Jay was attempting his ITT, he was riding the official GDMBR. Part of his ride was an attempt to bring more attention to the original route. Tour Divide starts in Banff, Canada. GDMBR starts in Jasper, Canada.

      @@bikesordeath I just looked at the ACA map and, you are correct, it does start in Jasper, Canada. I was not aware of that. Every video I’ve seen about this route people keep saying Banff but nobody mentions Jasper. Not sure why the tour divide doesn’t start in Jasper. Too confusing.

      @@salmonella508 I believe its because when the TD started, the GDMBR started in Banff. But the GDMBR has since been extended to Jasper.

    Nice interview.. First time I watched anything with Angus is when he and Lachlan biked and filmed their Aussie ride. Nice to hear more from him. I'd love to see more bike packing films with him, Lachy, Lael. Who cares about the "rule" of filming. How do they the organizers or trails expect to showcase the depth of the course, the weather, struggle, triumph and the possibilities of others to push themselves outside of their box.

    Hannah! I really enjoyed listening to your post-AZT/triple crown interview. The favorite comment I heard from a hiker I met when I was following you in the Canyon was, "She looked STRONG and was moving like a horse to water!" Yes, I'm certain they were thinking I looked quite weak in comparison. 😂 I really enjoyed the moments I was able to share with you out there - thanks for pushing me! Here's hoping we cross treads again in the future 🍻 PS You just finished the f'ing triple crown. Tell those cheapos to get you something better than Miller Lite!

      I think it just comes down to money. If they’re are going to make it all the way over here, it makes the most sense to do the longest ride. I do know of a big name international racer that’s taking on the triple crown next year, but I’m not able to share who, yet!

    I rode this on a 26" mtb pulling a bob trailer back in 2000 from Montana/Canada Border through Wyoming to start of Colorado. It was rough and rugged then. And a bit over a year ago did the Colordo trail and all that reminded me was doing CDT on my old hard tail back in 2000. Thanks for the interview.

    Jay Petervary is always fun to listen to given all of his experience riding bikes & doing ultras. But damn, seeing him in a freaking body cast is tough to see. It’s not so much the neck contraption that’s hard to take … it’s that the guy is wearing a body cast during this interview. Damn! Thankfully, he’s outta that tortuous body cast now and is recovering from getting ran over - literally, dude got ran over from behind by an inattentive / distracted driver. JayP, the only way I’m gonna get the image of you in that damn body cast fully outta my brain is when I see new video of you back on the awesome GDMBR route!

    As a PT for 28 years, I applaud you for this excellent episode that was incredibly relevant! Great job, guys. I hope that a lot of people listen to this episode. We should all be lifelong students of health and fitness! For those who are born with hip problems such as “knock knees” that prevent them from sitting cross legged, it is often best not to try and “fix” that with stretching into external rotation because you can cause more problems than you help. Hip ante-version is bone structure issue from birth, not a muscle tightness issue in the hips. This is an example where seeing a PT at least once in the clinic can be very valuable as the PT can prevent you from doing exercises that work for most people but can be counterproductive for some.
