Sketchbook Tour - Preserving Memories / sketching daily for a month
This came out way sweeter than it was meant to be, ah. Here, I am showing you my latest sketchbook and some of the memories behind the drawings. I drew all the time. It was nice.
Most of the sketches were done with a fineliner. There was also aquarelle, of course, as you could see. I guess, this is a vlog from Porto. Or. Or a dream.

Grow up. You applied and didn't get in. It was your choice to apply. For any university, there is a formula and a specific order for what you write and give. Clearly, you wanted to get in, but now you are reacting badly to being rejected. That's life and not a reason to tell people to not give a "f$ck". Maybe your portfolio just sucked. Maybe your art is not good enough. All valid reasons. There are lots of people who are very talented and apply in the correct format, and they do get in. How about you go there and make an appointment and ask them directly. Or apply to many different schools like any normal person would.
Be a grown-up like you? Who watches videos of other people, assumes a bunch about them and gets upset that they have a different view on things? No, I am okay, thank you. I wish you a wonderful day full of beautiful art❤
@@PolinaGazeeva Yes, grow up. The world doesn't owe you anything. People who do not grow up privileged or entitled know this fact. And your conclusion of telling people not "to give a f#ck" is invalid. You are salty and react like a hurt person. And who assumed anything? You blasted everything on YT; these are the facts you presented. By making a video about your "view" are the facts. So YES, grow up. And I wish you a wonderful day full of beautiful art too ❤

I got also rejected twice. As teens we were a group of wannabe artists in our hometown visiting the same provincial art school what we paid a lot of money for to explore ourselves in the atelier fulltime for a year... I did barkeeping to stay alive . We were ro Young to be Artists and too naive. I secretly slept in the school simce my living situation was toxic at the time. I struggled alot , yet it was the happiest time I had . Our " teachers" were more like kindergartners we could do whatever we wanted and we werent judged. I mean we also paid our kidneys... At least I did. Some had parenents support . I thought after a year I had enough for my portfolio and would get accepted at the academy..this is now 8 yesrs ago and I got rejected twice, while my former friends got accepted , I was more on the melancholic side and saw our Lifestyle back then critical.. the parties the drugs, that shere laziness and the lack of dedication... I wanted to do better than this.. while many of my peers saw it more as some sort of lifestyle rather than a philosophy and an almost scientific instrument of communicatin life humanity and existsance.... They got sccepted instantly with unimaginable portfolios as if the criteria were " do it as poor as you can " i had people from our peer group that literally decided picking up art a few months before their application... and they got in. I never recovered from.this and am st a point in my life know were I developed a stoicist peace if I was a sarcastic Zen monk that really doesnt care anymore and gives no more values to any sort of stuff yet hunting happiness and beuaty whereever he finds it. Fuck the institutions , fuck the high market. Life is not a role play, so dont psrticipate any form.of role play unless its for the art of life. Manifest what you crave to become, just be s true soul.. try to make some money but dont please people for the sake of it and don't please.yourself for the sake of it . I disagree with artists that made it and yet just spoil their egos by forcing us to celebrste their egos for the sake of it, that force us to spend time with their taped bananas and repetitive deritative bullshit that they found to be rheir personal cash cow.. as soon as it became a power play you lost your path . You cannot remain the same person as which you begun , yet you shall not forget who you were , whi you was and who you did represent...
Fuck UDK! I did my bachelors degree there. It is not all bad, but in general the atmosphere, the professors, etc. are pretty cold and negative. It is always strange to me, which portfolios get accepted and which not, I supervised some people, with their portfolio and I was often surprised by the results. Often super random cheesy stuff people did in high school art class got accepted. Not sure if they don't want people who already found their own style and seem to not be changeable anymore.
I have always loved drawing flowers, but this year, I decided I should learn to draw people. but, it felt like homework that I hated, especially when it came to drawing hands it filled me with anxiety. It was never like that with flowers. I enjoy painting them and have always been outcome independent because I simply love the process. That’s why I got good at it. After taking your advice in this video, I just spent a day drawing hands without worrying about the result. I wasn’t stressed or anxious at all I had a great time. My drawing improved so much in just one day, just by relaxing. I was able to apply my flower powers to my shitty hands. Thanks.
@@samriley6076 that is very very sweet, thank you

@@samriley6076 I don't think it's something I want right now. Maybe later, but thank you!
Wow, art schools and programs in the US are completely different (at least to this school). Its all online submission especially after covid. I cant imagine bringing like 15 canvases with me in person 😂 I think the standards are much more liberal too, but ofc theyre so expensive
Scary
Boring! Your paintings and drawings are all the same, you probably think you have a style, but it´s just a lack of technique and compositional skills aswell as colour harmony. Even your linework shows no variation. No wonder, they rejected you. Also maybe they saw your vids and understood, that your character and attitude are very negative and super whiny - why would they put up with you? But who knows - art schools don´t make you an artist. If you change your attitude and open up stylistically and technically, you might one day become an artist. You don´t need a school. You need the will, the milage and, yes, some talent. Complaining all day will not get you there. You are the type of person who always find the fault in others. Search elsewhere!
@@TheKunstlich I see you have a great insight into my character. I'm glad to have received such thorough feedback, I think you might be right and I am just too boring and complainy. Maybe one day I will be a real artist, but I doubt it. For now, I will just go on making my unreal artworks and live my not real artist life. Ah, thanks God for your input. And yeah, you are right, I think the art schools do have a super power to look into the future and see that oh wow I will dare to make a video about my experience of applying to their school. Truly outrages. I also wonder what makes you such an angry person. You know, it's okay to love yourself and love your art and not let an institution decide how good you are. And if all you got from this video is that I wanted to complain, idk, man, I'm sorry to hear that. I am sharing my experience of what it's like, I am sharing my experience of being an artist, what it's like to apply, what it's like to get rejected, what my thoughts are. Maybe that will make someone who is also applying less scared of rejection, maybe it will help them better deal with that. Maybe not. Have a lovely day, make art😘
With regards to how people reacti in two ways to this: i am in both camps. I love your art, sense of style, rtc. l'm also not surprised you didnt get in. I think they probably want to see thst you can do realism,, although idk... I dont know anything

Ahhh, the gate-keepers...obviously the whole experience has been very disappointing for you Polina. My sister and I both write poetry. I self-publish while she prefers the conventional route of being accepted by a publisher and entering prestigious competitions etc. I enjoy the open path of being an indie-writer because I don't believe that poetry/prose should somehow be the preserve of an elite. I have a problem with institutional 'gate-keepers' as they tend to be conservative....I have no idea why your portfolio was rejected. I find your work very interesting, a portal into the subconscious. Keep believing in yourself. Thats what I do. 😊❤
I think the disappointing part is also that I keep on hearing people say that udk isnt that good and many people who do go there, dont like it much. Thats upsetting, you would imagine a Berlin artschool to be a bit more exciting, no?

Before the advent of photography, artists tried to record exact likenesses. They created lots of beautiful portraits, landscapes, still life etc. Now people have different expectations of art and realism is not as important as it was in the past, because photography has largely taken over this role.

I would be interested to know if you rent this space or if you own the apartment. I ask because my landlord is categorically against using oil paints. He doesn't like the smell and he is afraid of dirt on the walls and floor. I try to use acrylic instead of oil, but it is not always appropriate from the point of view of expression.
We rent the apartment. I don't think the landlord has any right to tell you you are not allowed to use oil paints. Don't take my word for it, do check, but I'm pretty sure he has no say in the regard. As long as you don't bother the neighbors. So you can tell him, he can go eat a brick. (Do check online, but cmn, that's ridiculous). But either way, I don't think oil paint smells that much honestly. Yeah, turpentine does smell, but it goes away relatively quickly too. And if you open the windows, you will be fine. You can also use water soluble oil paints. Then you don't need turpentine. But anyway, don't let your landlord influence your art😄 screw that.
@@PolinaGazeeva Okay, your words encouraged me and convinced me of what I think: he has no right to regulate the use of mediums, especially if I do not dirty anything. 👹👹👺👺👺🎭 hehe
I like it so far. I have 1 question, Where is the human figure looking? It seems the figure is looking straight out and the canvas should be vertical or somehow change the eyes to slightly looking at a more downward angle. It's confusing because the figure has this upright pose. Except I'm still wondering if it might work. Some thin long streaming ass hair to force the viewer into the more horizontal? Artist types typically don't like being the director. Yet they many times end up becoming the director in order to get what they are exactly after. It is always what happened to me in any work I did. You have a vision for the project. If other team members are not getting your vision, you need to control them out of necessity. I hate instructing others what to do.
I think maybe it's has a point by being confusing... I'll still change things a lot, probably, so I'm not too worried about it yet
Because communicating your vision clearly is also a skill to be practiced.. I think it's rather the whole organization part that it requires, that I dislike the most, honestly. I don't know. I'll have to explore that more to figure out what I want to do.
@@PolinaGazeeva I like your point about confusing. It's another human experience. The human experiences are what we are here for.

Hello, Ms. Gaveeza, I am an artist in New Hampshire U.S.A. I am looking around RUclips for different artists in other parts of the world to learn about
That's lovely
If you can get some money ahead, then you can purchase a large roll of 12oz cotton canvas, 6 feet by whatever length. I think I purchased 100 or 150 feet last time. The wood stretcher bars got too expensive and I figured out how to make my own. Your'e better off making your own for the larger canvases anyhow. The store bought are too flimsy when you go large. I only purchase a gallon or less of acrylic gesso because it will end up going bad. It takes a little money to save a little money. That's the bitch of it. I found that paint pigment is fairly cheap compared to tubes of paint and it lasts forever. A bit of work mulling your own paint. I only do basic colors I use a lot of. You have Kremer pigments in Germany. I purchase from their store in NY. You may want to try to take a tour of Kremer some day. One of the oldest and best in the world. I purchase my earth tones from Oregon because it's cheaper. But they only have earth colors. Just some thoughts for the future. Cool figurative drawing. I like how you handled the front knee and and hand on the floor
Yeah, I'll probably end up making my own at some point. Should be doable somehow. I just don't like preparing stuff for painting, I like being able to just start. But maybe if I view it as a separate thing, that could work. Thank you 👹
@@PolinaGazeeva Yes, I thought of it as having complete control of the entire process. I like as much bounce as I can get without bowing the stretcher bars and 3 coats of gesso applied and sanded a certain way. I really enjoy making my own paint and hands on learning more about pigments and how they can act differently. I no longer have a day job or other hustle. That makes a huge difference.

That was great guys! Finally get to hear his perspectives, which are very sound perspectives. On doing things on purpose or forcing, that's a bit of slippery slope. If you don't purposely try it, then you eliminated the chance that it might have worked. Or that possibility that it didn't work but led to a new discovery. If failed and you continue to force an idea or a concept you observed elsewhere, then it becomes sabotage.
@@ltwig476 I'm glad you enjoyed this. Yeah, for sure you are right. To me it just seems that you will definitely experiment naturally no matter what, if you feel comfortable and generally confident enough, but that of course greatly depends on the person.
