Got to play ARCS for the first time on the weekend -- there are so many slick mechanisms working together, and the player aid (as you mentioned) is probably the best in any game I've seen. That said, I doubt I'll play it again. There was nothing mechanical to stop or disincentivize dogpiling which made for an absolutely crappy experience. I feel like that in most ARCS games, one player is probably going to walk away never wanting to play it again. I don't mind that in pure ameritrash or head-to-head games, but it's so unsatisfying in a game that asks you to engage with its interesting mechanics only to have your last hour of play be 100% meaningless.

Can’t say it’s “snappy” like you said. It’s prone to high AP because people are thinking through so many possible options based on their actions and the board state.

Ok, so, you said everything but the base Marvel United. But I thought you need that to play the other stuff? I want to get into this, and now I really don't know where to start!

I know this is your list and is nice but here’s my thoughts: 1. Marvel champions is good coop but will never play it with more than 2 players. Unless you enjoy long games. I mainly play it solo and it’s my favorite card game. 2. I have not seen many people playing Too Many Bones multiplayer but solo. The artwork turns me off and probably never play it. 3. Spirit Island is the same. Mostly play solo or 2 player. As you can tell, I don’t like coop multiplayer because games can take way too long and quarterbacking irritates me so bad. I prefer light games like: Marvel United Forbidden Island Beacon Patrol Marvel Legendary Deckbuilding Unmatched The Loop And maybe Pandemic 😅

The art and character design of Too Many Bones turns me off from the game. They look out of proportion and awkward. I heard it was incredible and complex but the design really gets me. It is like Gloomhaven other than Hatchet all the playable characters look like NPC's you would kill in a RPG videogame.

Love the list but I’m surprised Twilight Imperium isn’t on there. The intensity and ever evolving strategy of negotiation and inevitability of war makes it get more intense every game. The expansion only made each faction more balanced. Heck there is a popular podcast and entire fan base of meta discussion on it. Not for everyone but definitely my favorite game of all time.

A gateway game that I have been enjoying quite a bit is Diced Veggies. It's very much a kids game on the surface. Easy to learn, bright colors, cute theme. But there's enough strategy there with mixing recipes and hype cards to create some fun game play. Maybe it's too simple to make this list, but I've got simple friends and they enjoy it quite a bit.

Yes, I am sick of my friends trying my board games and sucking at them and never coming back. I do want them to come back to play all my games but under my terms. Harmonies is great! Good call! I agree with Jeff, magical experience. Dog Park - Not for me, I don't want people who like it to be in my house. I get the reasoning. Not my choice though. I want to go to Japan! I have the game but I need to open it, house rule it so you must eat sushi while playing it. We should go to Japan IRL. Courtesans is fun and easy to learn but it feels like a Reiner Knizia game and he is my sword mortal enemy. If you're reading this Reiner, Tim Horton's Parking Lot the one in Mississauga Ontario Canada near Hurontario Rd. and Eglinton Ave. 8:00pm EST August 27th (ANY YEAR). I will wait for you every year at this date/time to settle this. Skyrise game is amazing but can only play the deluxe edition because base retail game is for plebs, I'm no pleb, I treat my gaming addiction like my other addictions. Ark Nova is our #1 game. Love the mechanics and theme. I have burnt out of Cascadia as well but the wife loves it so I still have to play 😅.
