I always took this to be like a hellhound kind of situation-- akira leading her to the afterlife, only after he's died. And the look on his face here is hugely contrasted with her having such a trusting look on her face at wherever the destination is... as he's driving, he doesn't look sure of anything at all... it's like he knows even after they both go to the new timeline they're going to go through this over and over again in different universes...

Funny enough this is the ending that would’ve happened if Amon took over Akira’s body

This episode made me cry, seeing this in the credits started the drips, no lie.

This is the happy ending that I wanted to see. I always like happy endings in shows and movies, and I wish Devilman crybaby ended like this. The only anime that can have a sad ending like this is Evangelion.
