On this channel I share details about modifications that I have made to my 2023 Winnebago Solis 59PX built on a 2022 Ram Promaster 3500 chassis. RV ownership comes with tons to learn. There are guaranteed to be problems. Help may be hard to come by. RVs are becoming increasingly popular and it may be difficult to find and schedule service. When I learn something useful to me I will share it with you. When I make a mod that increases my enjoyment of the coach I will pass it along. Together we can spend more time on the road, enjoying our RVs. Please subscribe, comment on videos, and let me know what you would like to see.
How to gently close your van's sliding door. High-speed sliding and slamming NOT required
In this video I show you how I gently close my Ram Promaster slider from outside the van. Is your "door open" indicator on your dash on? There's a good chance your sliding door is not completely shut. There is a lot of good advice for making it easier to close the door from the inside of the van. We can open a door or window to provide a path for the air that is being compressed when we close the door, allowing it to escape. I prefer to close the door from the outside when it is possible. In this video, I share a technique my dad taught me for gently closing the sliding door on a van from the outside. It does not require high-speed sliding or slamming and will reduce wear and tear on you ...

In this video I share some tips that made showering, standing up much easier, and enjoyable, for me in my Winnebago Solis 59PX. The most important change I made was turning around and standing facing the the wall opposite the shower controls. This provides more room for me to spread my feet for better balance and much more space in front of me to work my arms and clean myself. When facing the s...

I had water get into my stove. The stove would not light. When it would light it would sputter briefly with an orange flame. I gave it a few days hoping that it would clear on its own. After 3 days it had not got any better and I became worried about damage. In this video I show you how you can loosen the propane stove cooktop sufficiently to tilt it and dump the water out.

How I cleared water and condensation from cab marker / clearance light : Winnebago Solis 59PX

There are many reasons why you could have condensation and standing water in your cab lights. In my case water entered the light through a hole made from a screw protruding through the sealant covering the top screw. When the sealant was swiped across the top of the screw a small portion of the screw was left exposed. My lights are glued to the fiberglass fairing making it extremely difficult t...

GENIUS ...
Appreciate the comment. Thank you
Thanks for passing on the knowledge. Works like a champ.
You bet. Thanks for the comment
I commonly do this on our Promaster to close it. The big trouble is closing it from the inside when you can't be outside to push on the door. Even with a vent open we still have to slam it to get closed when we are in the van. Any hints there?
Great helpful tip
Appreciate it.
I like it.
Cool
Thanks, no slammimg, i open passengers door 👍 it just closes easy
You are welcome! Glad it helped you.
Can you install a gas strut inside the box?
I'm sure you could and that may be a good solution for some. Personally I have avoided adding struts to my doors and cabinets because of the amount of space they take up and the potential for interfering catching on the contents as things shift around. They also respond differently depending on the temperature. I am in the Northeast and it gets cold. The shocks stiffen up. Also they are one more (perhaps dozens) of things to maintain.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
EXCELLENT...WILL try it out
I typically use a combination of sliding the door forward slowly and pushing on the rear of the door when it starts to travel inward. I do it in one smooth motion. I push with two hands in this video, with the door at a standstill, to show that the door actually needs to travel inward to close. You'll be a pro in no time.
That may dent the area where your hands press over time with many repetitions since the door panels are likely not reinforced for pressure and sudden stop.
We really only have the problem when we're INSIDE the van. Hard to press it from the outside if your inside the van.
We added a handle on the inside. Pull sliding door closed at the same point you push from the outside. Both techniques make closing the sliding door easy, from inside or outside.
maybe that's when you could use the open a window technique.
I plan to add a strap on the interior of the sliding door for that very reason.
You're welcome. 😊
This makes perfect sense. Thank you!
Nice mod. I see you can use them as hold downs for gear as well. Which model of scooters did you get, how do you like them? Thanks, mike from NC
Thanks. We have a couple of Hiboy S2 Pro. They are fine for our needs. If I got another scooter I would probably get one with some suspension. Battery life and speed is fine but without some suspension you feel every bump and crack in the pavement.
That's a great idea! I can usually open okay from the back, but the back only. I absolutely need these in the front. 👍
Thanks. Me too! I put some up front first, initially to tie stuff down. Over time I found I was using them to open the doors. I just got around to doing the back today. That is a very good point you make. It is much more difficult from the front.
Super dope idea thank you for posting this. You could get another 2x4 shove it under the jack and a 3rd rat het strap to lift the front up a little to change a front tire or something.
Your welcome. Thanks for the comment. : D
Thanks for sharing your good idea. Very clear instructions.
You're welcome!
What is total dimensions?
The additional easy to find shut off valve is a great tip, thanks!!
Glad to help. The shower head that was originally provided with the Solis did have a cutoff valve built into the shower head. So you would be good to go if you just relocated the head to the opposite wall when you showered. The suction cup mount is good for that.
You are AMAZING!!❤️😎👍
Thank you! Love the simplicity, lack of additional parts/cords, etc. trying it now. Thanks!
Your welcome! It has worked great for me for over 2 years of ownership.
Meaning it's all opened up?
Yes. That's part of it. The day I went to the beach I had a goal to bike, scooter, and swim for activity. I also wanted to spend some time enjoying the van, soaking up the sounds and the fresh air while reading a book and eating lunch. I packed my scooter, E-bike, and some swimming trunks and headed out to the New Hampshire coast. It was a great day. I really appreciated having my own private outdoor shower to rinse off after a swim. It felt amazing
I did notice the equipment packed there in the back! Yes, the breeze, the ocean, the sounds.... I get it. And you do have it all with the Solis. 💕👍
I never use mine, but this makes me want to try! Can you post links to the mat/shelf, the shower head and the suction cup device? I'm sure I could find them, but it would be helpful to know the sizes. Thanks! Joanne
Yeah, I was going to mention that. If people walked into the shower and faced the faucets, they would have a hard time imagining taking a shower in that position. If that was their experience, they may write it off and never attempt it. I kept trying things and eventually landed on that setup and was like, dang, I can actually use this. Now I really enjoy it and prefer to use it over campground showers. I used to make the hike to the showers with a fistful of quarters. Not any more. I will put the links to the accessories in the video description.
Such a great idea! Even as a small woman, it makes total sense. 😀👍🏼
Thank you. It wasn't immediately obvious but it was a game changer for me.
Very clever
Appreciate it
Are you running winter tires?
Yes. Check out this video where I used them in a snow squall. Winnebago Solis 59PX Winter Camping Mods and the Discovery of a HEATED glove box ruclips.net/video/lNYB8qjuXz8/видео.html
Wondering if you redid the sound. Saw the earlier comment but the sound was no problem.
I didn't. I definitely could do better but I haven't touched it. Thanks BTW
@@603BVan I've watched videos with far worse sound. I had no problem hearing you and there was plenty of volume. I didn't manage to make one of these as I don't have any of those things, but I found one of those folding TV tables is just the right height to wedge under the rear rack and it lifted it off the ground enough to free up the rear wheel.
Bravo! Brilliant!
Thanks!
What a great idea! What is the material? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. The awning panels are constructed from plastic cardboard. I used Coroplast brand from my local Home Depot. The hinges are made from duct tape.
Made this and love it, thank you for the great idea! I made one mod, which was to add some paracord so I could tether it down, making it more stable in the wind.
Nice!
What size is that bed now Queen ?
The additional mattresses increase the total overall sleeping surface length (front to back in the coach) from 59" to 72", enabling us to sleep front to back in the coach. The link below shows the size of the Murphy bed without the additional mattress where the largest dimension is 77" for sleeping side to side. www.winnebago.com/models/product/motorhomes/camper-van/2023-solis/59px
Hello! Absolute Genius. My Promaster slider door & rain has been bothering me since it's purchase in 2020. I searched repeatedly for solutions...the "J rail" doesn't work despite all the You Tuber opinions to the contrary. All it did was make a second line of water drops to hit me in the face when I open and shut the door. I was able to follow along, make a fast trip to the big box store, and constructed the initial guard using scissors, a yardstick, sharpie, duct tape, and an X-Acto knife on a rainy day. THIS WORKS!! Going to start working on the second guard to protect the back of the open door. I was about to give up until I was so lucky to find your video. Thanks bunches for sharing! Very nice!
Yes. The RV gutter is great for redirecting water running down the side of the van but does not protrude enough to be useful as an awning. I am glad you appreciate the design. You will enjoy having it on hand. : D
Good job, great ideas.
Thank you
Do you mind to share the price you paid for it ? I see prices ranging from 88 to 129 k
Prices were right about in the middle of the range you stated when I bought. I bought a 2023 PX in 7/2022. It was impossible to haggle when there wasn't any inventory to haggle over post COVID. You either paid the price or you went without. I finally got mine at a decent price when there were a handful of dealers in my area that had them in stock and they mildly competed for my business. I did miss out on one decent opportunity when I still had not accepted that the market was what it was and prices weren't going down. Make sure you get the new chassis. Major updates to the Ram PM in 2022 and some more in 2023.
Great idea
Thank you. 😀
What a great idea! 👍👍👍
Thank you
Looks like overhang is about 20". Are you happy with that amount of overhang? more? less? Also it looks like the piece protecting the inside of the slider door is held in place by the lip of the door, but also by the small groove formed where the pop top rests on the van roof? For a regular van roof, it would then be necessary to find a way to anchor the slider door awning piece on the roof? Also, the website listed did not connect. Thanks
The size has been good. When settling on a size, the main considerations were wind, ease of use, and storage. As far as wind goes I wanted to be able to deploy the awning in the same conditions I would feel comfortable deploying an umbrella. That helped put constraints on the size and provides a reasonable frame of reference for when to put it up and when to take it down. If I would not feel comfortable deploying an umbrella, I dont put it up. Storage was also a consideration. Both pieces fit along the wall in my shower. ( a great place to store wet tiems). You are right about the long edge being wedged under the poptop. Fortunately, because that junction does not need to be water tight, there are many options to secure it / hold it against the roof. Adhesive mounted strip magnets could be added along that edge to hold it fast. Or a scheme can be devised to weight it or pull it down with bungee loops / magnets. Thanks for the heads up about the link. Not sure what is going on there. www.innovativervaccessories.com. I hope to put some time into it this weekend.
Thanks for replying. Today while messing around with this, I realized there is actually a shallow groove on the side of the Promaster. You can see it at 2:46 below the poptop lip and above the top of the door. With that piece the proper width to fit between that groove and the lip on top of the door, it stays in place. Of course nothing on a van is straight so the necessary width of that piece has to taper from the back to the front of door so that it fits snugly to stay in place. Also, the piece that covers the open door was easily covered with two 30" wide pieces of cloroplast, so my Promaster 2500 must have a door of less width than yours. The pieces I bought are 30" x 20" so I have a 20" overhang. One question: the back piece- did you tape 2 pieces together to make the folded piece or did you cut the cloroplast so it folded over on itself? I cut just one face of the piece so it folded over, but it doesn't quite fold flat.
@@jabenm I created a hinge with white duct tape.
I’ve been working on a couple prototypes of an awning made of Coroplast. I’ve used magnets and suction cups and I have a decently working model. But this is so simple it’s genius. Stores flat, easy deployment. I love it. Simple wins every time. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
Nice. I appreciate it and am happy to share.
Very smart! I would definitely purchase a version of this for my van if it were available!
Thank you.
I would too. Love this idea. Currently dealing with rain with no awning.
Brilliant! I'm forwarding this to my husband. He's a model railroader and is good at cutting styrene with an X-Acto knife so this shouldn't be much different with the corrugated plastic. We have the Solis Pocket, but the slider hardware should be identical. BTW, props to your family member or friend who is standing out in the rain patiently filming this!
Thanks! It should be a breeze for your husband.
Good video. What was your follow-up? Did you recaulk? Is it still sealed. I have a PM 2017 and one of my driving lights had some moisture. I unscrewed it and it drained and then I put caulk on the screws. Have you looked at your roof factory seals yet? Mine were poorly installed leaving gaps that I could see the seam where the roof pieces were welded.
I still see condensation from time to time. Not the standing water though. My roof is sealed fine it's the addition of the poptop that presents some challenges. Really need to park nose up and keep up with the sealant.
Cool idea. You covered all the bases.
Thanks! Not my best video but there is some good stuff buried in there. Somewhere
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm adding the material onto my wish list at Menards. Nice thing about it is you can slide the mini awning in just about anywhere. Thanks for sharing.
Yes. It's great to have on hand. I really appreciate it when I am having to go in and out of the van when it's raining. I no longer need to rush in and out and repeatedly open and close the slider. You'll love having it.
@@603BVan that's a good point.
Corflute is a very versatile product,,,well done mate cheers from Australia
Thank you
excellent !
Thank you! Appreciate it.
Great! Going to make this for my promaster.
Thanks! You will enjoy having it on hand.
how did you mount the external Antenna?
That was an ordeal. I was bound and determined to use a piece of 80/20 to construct a small roof rack using VanTech hardware to mount to (Vantech M/J Series Mounting Base). Unfortunately, the back edge of the pop top interferes with the forward roof rack mount. I had to heavily modify a Vantech H45-H46 adapter to accommodate the edge of the pop top. I do plan on creating a video for it soon and provide some lessons learned. Things I like, things I would do differently.
Simple but smart solution. Thanks for sharing
You're welcome!
Hi! What material are you using I would like to make one for my van! That’s fantastic thank you so much !
Corrugated Plastic Sheet. Home Depot sells it
I made mine out of Coroplast brand of plastic cardboard. You can find at the Home Depot. I made the hinges out of white duct tape
