UPCYCLING - A New Boat Table - New From Old!
S05E81 Welcome back - in this episode we are off #upcycling a piece of furniture - in this case, an old coffee table into a new 'teak' style boat table for out #sealine #s34.
This is essentially a piece of re-purposed furniture - an old coffee table, that I was about to take to the dump and then I thought 'that could make a great boat table,' and so the project was alive.
The total cost was to purchase two 'RV' table cones which cost £13 - that is it.... and it is a work in progress as I have now learnt to colour wood filler and so am going to refinish the short edges.
just a very quick upload to show one of the many upgrades that we have made on #fridaynight

    Great work, always good content when someone cares for the boat. I noted from your video, the Arch over the cockpit is on hinges assuming this can be lowered to get under bridges when required. What is the boats overall Airdraft with this arch folded down ? Assuming the window screen is the highest point. Keep up the great work

      @lovelifeloveboat 7 дней назад

      Yes, thank you for commenting - it is indeed - it gets down to under 7ft which is respectable and certainly helped us on our Wells trip as none of the bridges were operating and Mutford lock was also u/s. It isn't so easy getting the canopies undone but certainly stops us getting tide locked in places that are 'the other side of a bridge.' As for caring for a boat - I do find undertaking things like antifouling and polishing important as I get to know every inch of the craft - I can score myself out of 10 for the scratches and knocks that I have made and growl when I find something that wasn't me that I have not been aware of!!

      I believe the Waverley itinerary nowadays takes it all around the UK and Ireland, and Wales also! I am not sure if it would have done in the 60's unless it was going to be used for excursions as it wasn't sold into preservation until 70's I believe, however, I may be wrong! It is always worth looking up the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society - They are on FB and RUclips as the @PSPSScottishBranch and are extremely friendly and helpful - and would be really keen to also hear your story! This particular boat was for river and estuary use mainly but would be incredibly cramped for a family of 4, there is a bigger version called a Birchwood Interceptor 25, which are quite reasonably priced , and make great projects. I remember this vessel well when she plied between Hull and New Holland Lincolnshire. With its shallow draft, it was ideal for dodging the ever changing mudflats in the Humber estuary. It was not unknown for the vessel to run aground on a falling tide in which case passengers retired to the bar to kill time until the tide turned and the vessel was afloat again. Watching the reciprocating pistons working to a rythmic sound was magical. Thank goodness she has been saved. 😂❤

    Wells like so many small UK ports has done for itself really. the failure to dredge the waterways and keep them navigable led to the decline in cargo through the port and the knock-on effect of that saw business closures and loss of jobs which of course led to people moving away from the area and the influx of second homes ownership never a good sign as they bring so very little into an area force up accommodation prices reduce transport links and induce a general decline in the populace and once entrenched they apply pressure on the local authority which prevents it from rejuvenating the area. Wells is basically now locked into this vicious circle of decline from which there is no escape with one ray of false hope in the development of a marina complex which while it might sound tempting will put the final seal on the place for good locking out the locals as these places so often do.

    • @lovelifeloveboat
      @lovelifeloveboat 2 месяца назад

      I tend to agree, although Wells, by road, is literally on my doorstep, and an area which I covered professionally with work, it is literally closed over winter months - and similar to so many Devon and Cornish towns, the key safes are appearing outside more and more homes. The development of the outer harbour was more driven by wind farm operation, however, they have got up and gone. Whilst I absolutely feel the harbour team are outstanding, it cannot be ignored that wells was built upon access to the Sea. Involvement of 'National' organisations could be even worse... The only way that this and any future can be gained - thankfully with the internet and other advances, is to ensure that young people have access to local housing and those buying property are having to use them (not all but a proportion) for primary residencies. Thank you for your very important points and although it, for us, is a picturesque journey, I have tried to reflect some of what you have mentioned.

    Can I ask sir? Why you picked a cruiser and not a yacht? I like to know why. It's because i'm thinking about buying a boat

    The 3D is made in France, not Germany

      Hi Yes, 3D as a company is French, and make excellent products, but The 3D superlight Tender uses PVC fabric made in Germany by Mehler, sorry if that wasn't clear - and quite possible I made a mistake so will have to watch it again - either way, it appears you are rowing yours in a much warmer place than I was mine!!

      Hi thank you for your comment, I cant find the item on amazon however, it looks like Sealy and Draper both have similar mini-polishers available. This is the link to the model I bought which is now showing as 'out of stock' www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166610453212 I also use this corded and much more powerful version with a 7inch lambs wool bonnet www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-264569-1200W-Sander-Polisher/dp/B002QS1LZ2/ref=sr_1_28?crid=HWT734QOXJHS&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ZID8KRcxDR_VydaVX39EnEv0XeKips7ZSVsuBX7sIoUaex_b2cikWMWeZQ86avxvPfvlT8iCxkZSndLfY11NbppWheI36yH0ENz7Jpx4sMOW9tLAyQxmu_uUxFvtbFCKJ3hGPff9DohI-DoZfe0YeB4PEFRFFspIwuRc916LNar1rnCwYjJEWru77RObNuzt46H2ORk7hmTETTn0xYD4WxT07VMxNxJEulGgwuzkIzHGzNT9mzPiCigdudpJoNoJnuYhXO7aiReVhrWwFm0F_cQTSpQVwqxolgfOn6Uy-Jk.KVMkmcQUQpGab9oWBCVJe0CJOXcDIBoYr92lNiNOBqs&dib_tag=se&keywords=vanity+polisher&qid=1711263209&sprefix=canitu+polisher%2Caps%2C94&sr=8-28 The polish is here at Marine Superstore but probably can be bought locally www.marinesuperstore.com/boat-cleaning/polishes-waxes/3m-perfect-it-gelcoat-light-cutting-comp?attribute_size=946ml&msclkid=5ffe1d1337131ea7c4ce78ecfbbedfa2&GS%3A%20Below%20100%20stock%20and%20remaining%20products%20%3E%20No%20Audience&Boat%20Cleaning And the top coat is good old Starbrite marine polish www.marinesuperstore.com/boat-cleaning/polishes-waxes/starbrite-marine-polish-473ml
