All Good Things Must Come to an End
S05 E090 Could this be our final journey in our Sealine S34, Friday Night? As with many things in life, circumstances change and although Friday Night has had significant upgrades over the last year - is this the type of boating working for us still?
At present we have made no plans, but certainly the boat has not been used as much over the past few years as it needs to be, and getting there is not an easy journey. Although we are based on the #norfolkbroads there is the constant, and rising question, of rapidly increasing tolls and indiscriminate damage. So, do we change our cruising grounds again? Or do we look to a new style of boating, or even a new hobby?
This isn't the sort of decisio...

Garmin EchoMap - Old Transducer Install and Sea Trial #Echomap
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 месяца назад
S05 E88 - When we initially installed the new Garmin EchoMap UHD 92 SV, @GarminInt I was aware that we already had a Garmin #transducer fitted to the boat. Unfortunately this was an older 6-pin dual frequency transducer - but it is still supported. Although, ultimately, we are going to backwardly upgrade the entire nav system, just getting this to work would be a success. And so, having spoken ...

S05 E87 - One day, our #windlass just stopped working. I could hear the solenoids clicking, but the windlass winch itself was not operating. As we are inland, I kind of fettled but didn't fix it, but with further sea journeys looming, it was time to get and fix it! Initially it was a case of tracing the wiring from the source to the winch itself - a Simpson Lawrence Horizon 600, but overlooking...

      I have been told this story but having done a search online, the Cornwall Wildlife Trust do appear to have organised trips there www.cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk/explore/visit-looe-island ! I think Richard (in the video) tells a similar story and says that when he was much younger he used to go to the island, but as you say, it is pretty much off-limits these days unless it is an organised visit! It was my first time visiting the area and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit!

    • @lovelifeloveboat

      I think that turnover of diesel is key here - the yard I purchased from had closed its hire fleet and literally changed its visiting berths into sales berths and I think you mention some valid points.

  • @ScarboroughTourist
    @ScarboroughTourist 2 месяца назад

    I have the Neo & Mini 3 Pro. I think , for water, the N3 controller is more suitable (cost?) because the N3 has GPS and RTH. The N3 is Mini 4 Pro compatible and you can buy propellor guards + the battery life is much longer + wind resistance is better. so, I think (cost?) the Mini 4 Pro is better on water with less submarine risk. I've had a flyaway (Neo) using Wifi and managed to reconnect by quickly using the N3 to connect (much better range to re-connect + update to controller for RTH). I think the Neo is a 'land based' adventure drone with very minimal water usage.

    • @lovelifeloveboat
      @lovelifeloveboat 2 месяца назад

      Hi, thank you for your comprehensive reply - I actually agree pretty much with what you have said and think, in hindsight, that the fly more bundle is probably better value than it was first specc'd advertised as. Having played with the Neo, even land based, although it now tracks at a better speed since the last upgrade, it is completely random and I have had far too many fly aways, random stops or it just landing itself randomly - not good if on the water. On the plus side, it is ridiculously easy to catch - and there are limitations with 4K30 snd so, I would agree the mini 4 is a better drone, but with prop guards, will take it over the magic 249g. I also use an Air2S which is still my favourite drone, and use exemptions offered by Article 16 via my membership to a professional body. Interesting that like myself, you have tried various configs... why oh why don't DJI just make a floaty drone I wonder!

      No, as I have the older twin screw down ones which are absolutely water tight. They were re-sealed a few years ago when when interior was completely refurbished. Incidentally, I noticed that NYA have a coupe of interesting boats around the 40' mark about to hit their listings - one is a Fairline 43AC, and an Azimut 42.

      I can get it to RTH with a controller, but each time using the FLY app, it when the battery gets low, it simply just lands! I have updated the DJI fly app to the second release since the NEO has been released and have not yet had a chance to test it since, Also when using the controller, it uses occusync, which gives far greater range I understand. Thank you the pointer and I will pop an update video out soon!

      Actually been playing with it alot more and it has been really surprising. With the RC2 controller it has a bigger range but still with no RTH. Although new firmware has improved it. I have a new technique... fly it back into the boat and just let it crash... it is as safe as driving a volvo lol

    • @gregb1599
      @gregb1599 4 месяца назад

      You're the only RUclipsr that has not got the RTH working every other video. When the battery gets low, it returns to home automatically. I personally have not used to auto return to home, and I just press the return to home button manually as I am not brave enough to fly it too far away like others do.

    • @lovelifeloveboat
      @lovelifeloveboat 4 месяца назад

      Hi Greg - are you using the controller - I have been playing with the drone alot more and when using a controller, it does indeed RTH, however, I had, at the point of uploading, only used the follow modes and the DJI FLY app - which has had a couple of updates and another firmware update since I got the drone, and when flying it from the app, I either has a setting wrong or something, but if I don't watch the battery, it simply, just lands. I am planning on a part 2 as I have played with the drone alot more since, and I love it. Up until now I have used an Air 2S and mini 3 pro, but finding this little beastie is delivering some great footage. Thank you for the comment and I will take your advice and keep testing!

    • @gregb1599
      @gregb1599 4 месяца назад

      @lovelifeloveboat Yeah, sorry I should have mentioned it only RTH with the controller and phone together, as you know it has the normal DJI display and controls that all the other DJI drones have.

    • @lovelifeloveboat
      @lovelifeloveboat 4 месяца назад

      Yes - I should have been clearer in the video that I had not tested it with a normal controller as I did not buy the fly more kit (I already have the air 2S) and so should have tried that for comparison. I will make sure I add more to the update vid.

      I know, you are absolutely right, but you still wont get into Wells if you miss the tide - unless you want to wade up the mud! Oh, don't forget, us powerboaters are complete softies and when we run aground, we seem to do it so much faster than the sailies! Actually the first time I visited Wells was in my bilge-keeled Moody and I do recall having to sit out in the Wash waiting for the tide then - and that was when it was a commercial port many years ago! That is probably as far away from high tide as you would want to chance it - I'm glad you had a chance to visit, it is a wonderful little town and well worth visiting - on the time I visited last year, it was really difficult getting out of the 'Broads' and it was an 'against the clock' journey to get there... and the slowest journey back as we had to get under a horrid bridge that, at the time, was not lifting, and our alternative, a lock, was also broken! I look forward to seeing your upload from your travels very much!

      Yes they are Huawei B528s-23a units I believe - I had considered an internal and my neighbour has purchased an outdoor caravan unit - however, what attracted me to this unit was that I can install and forget, also that at £230 that is nearly a third of the RRP - the seller has a number on 'new old stock' units and these are the later and upgraded EVO models. Works far better than anything we have got although the gigacube seems great - I had also looked at the Pepwave MAX BR1, but as soon as you add in the external marine antennae the price was just a little too unjustifiable at the mo. Still, whatever, I have a new stick up top!!

What is the boats overall Airdraft with this arch folded down ? Assuming the window screen is the highest point. Keep up the great work

    • @lovelifeloveboat
      @lovelifeloveboat 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, thank you for commenting - it is indeed - it gets down to under 7ft which is respectable and certainly helped us on our Wells trip as none of the bridges were operating and Mutford lock was also u/s. It isn't so easy getting the canopies undone but certainly stops us getting tide locked in places that are 'the other side of a bridge.' As for caring for a boat - I do find undertaking things like antifouling and polishing important as I get to know every inch of the craft - I can score myself out of 10 for the scratches and knocks that I have made and growl when I find something that wasn't me that I have not been aware of!!
