    You call the elecoms ergonomic, but they really only properly fit very small hands. They are large in footprint, but look at the side profile of those with a real hand for scale. The curves do not match up to a normal-size hand at all. I have the huge, and it absolutely requires hover-hand. Also, I think bearing friction on the huge is overblown. I got the "upgrade" bearings and then never saw a reason to add them. Could be that large balls are more forgiving with bearing friction due to torque and ability to distribute contaminants?

      I see you've already got the answer, but just in case someone else reads this: the side that you want to tighten is the side the belt is already too close to. It's counter-intuitive, but think of it like this: by tightening the too-close side, you're pulling the bar closer on that side creating a slope for the belt to "fall down towards" the other side.

    Would love to hear your thoughts on the UREVO models, I'm looking at Spacewalk E3 (manual incline) and Spacewalk 3S (auto incline). The Egofit is out of my price range unless it shows up refurbished. BTW Flexispot has started selling some of the UREVO pads and you can bundle them with their standing desks. I'm planning to get the E5 desk, their mid-range option, and add on one of the UREVOs. Flexispot has a lot of sales and promo codes too.

      Click the link in my video description, I have a tree outline breakdown with pros / cons / filters of the various models. I most frequently recommend 2S Lite or 3S. I used to recommend E3, but it has some engine overheat problems. That's really interesting about Flexispot bundles, that's some validation on Urevo in this whole budget-mill throwdown!

    • @animoney1
      @animoney1 7 дней назад

      @@lefnire Yeah I've seen your website post, very helpful. I also saw the discussion on reddit where a user said they preferred the 3S over the 2S Lite. One thing that had me leaning towards the E3 (other than it being cheaper) was that it has a mute button on the remote, whereas the 3S does not have that feature. I also do not many see amazon reviews mentioning the overheat problem, just one or two. Fakespot shows that they removed some reviews though. A bit shady. Not sure if they fixed the issue or are just hiding it... The beeping is a turn off for me as my SO's office is next to mine. Egofit doesn't beep correct?

    • @lefnire
      @lefnire 7 дней назад

      @@animoney1 Interesting, where is it I saw the overheating thing.. I remember this story arc of E3->E4->E5 resulting in reduced overheating due simply to the vents; but lamented lost incline. I'll see if I can find that again; it could indeed be in removed reviews. Indeed, Egofit is quiet. Good to know about 3S over 2S Lite; I haven't gotten to test the 3S yet, but I see that it gets better reviews even though it's older, so that one had me curious. And correct, the E series has a mute button, and the result is permanent even across unplugs, which is awesome.

    • @animoney1
      @animoney1 5 дней назад

      @@lefnire I went ahead and ordered the E3. The mute feature pushed me to buy, hopefully there's no issues with the motor. I also will be buying a electric standing desk soon, currently have an adjustable desk topper on an old table. Looking at Flexispot E5 due to price, but also saw there was a very nice desk called the Secretlab Magnus Pro, which has a steel desktop. It's probably out of my price range but I was wondering if that would potentially solve the static shock issue from the treadmills? I'll probably have to get a floor mat under the treadmill as my home office has carpet. Wondering if the right one will also help with the static shock.

    • @lefnire
      @lefnire 5 дней назад

      @@animoney1 thanks for the follow up! Keep me posted on the desk, always curious what people buy. The floor mat won't help with shock, it's foot to walking pad that builds up. I wouldn't worry about it too much, you end up learning lifestyle tricks / motions to avoid shocking electronics (eg only touching plastic and wood), and you can get an ESD wrist strap worst case scenario

    Nice vid mate. The Gameball's weird scrolling method made it terrible for me, but otherwise the ball felt good. Couldn't get used to the shape for similar reasons to what you said, really requires resting on it. Even if you remap it to drag scroll, the ring gets in the way and gives you random inputs , it's a real dealbreaker

    So I didn't really dive deep into reviews before I purchased my first trackball and I went with the Elecom deft pro. I did this because according to a few reddit comments, it was highly recommended, plus it was on sale for me so hey why not. Finding out now that the bearings are awful makes me kinda sad, but I am going to stick with this thing for a while yet before I decide to invest in a better mouse. Since I am using this primarily for gaming, I think I will go with the GameBall. Is the difference in smoothness between the elecom deft pro and the slimblade/gameball and better really that noticeable? I am feeling a lot of "stiction" now that I know what that is, I was hoping it would just decrease the longer I used the mouse. Is this not the case? What are some things I can do to decrease the stiction? Also, thank you very much for pointing out that you have to clean gunk out of the static bearings. I had not done so yet and it was nasty.

    • @lefnire
      @lefnire 7 дней назад

      In terms of stiction, it goes: [S-tier: GameBall / Ploopy / L-Trac] > [A-tier: Kensington] > [B-tier: Elecom]. Your best bet with the Deft Pro is to replace the bearings. There are RUclips videos describing how to do it; it's cheap, and medium-difficulty. TMK once that's done, the new stiction goodness is upper A-tier.

    At 3:38 you show the real way to use a trackball, hand tilted and fingers slightly bent about 5 degrees and the fingers loosely together. Its strange but when anyone is discussing trackballs this is where their hands end up automatically. Then when they talk about using them and demonstrating them, they get into the most uncomfortable positions imaginable and try to use their index finger. Not the way. To go back to your position at 3:38. Firstly the trackball should be on the top as you say. Secondly do not use the index finger to move the ball. Do not put the hand flat on the trackball, I don't hover over the ball either. Tilt the hand so in a sitting position you are looking at the side of your hand, rest the outside heel of the hand behind the whole module, the Kensington expert has a soft pad for this. This is the swivel point for use, and as the angles and motions are very small the odds of RSI are a no chance. Rest your three fingers lightly on the ball, slightly to the right of the ball (for RH bods)Use the middle finger with the first and third fingers lightly on the ball the fist joint of the middle finger just past the centre of the ball. Now move the screen cursor use the middle finger as the driving finger. right click is done with the little finger or the fourth finger. Left click with the forefinger. Try it out see how comfortable it is.

    I feel like there is so much room for innovation in the trackball space. People are starting to care a lot more about ergonomics. I'd love to see options with more buttons, even if some are not as convenient. Like shortcut buttons or a macro pad built in. Also better sensors, polling rates, etc. If someone can solve the issue of having to clean bearings that would be a big improvement. I used to have a logitech thumb trackball, and want to try one of these hand balls now. Leaning towards slimblade pro as it's on amazon for returns.

    I am finally researching options to buy a walking pad. Looking for something with incline for the reasons you mentioned, but also want something quiet (girlfriend also WFHs in the next room), and something convenient to move out of the way for when I want to sit. Do you normally move the pad and pull a chair out? Or could you get a chair that goes over the pad (wide legs?), or even have a wide enough desk that you just slide the pad to the side? Knowing my ADHD I know if this isn't convenient enough it'll be an issue. Also have you actually tried the UREVO models or just researched them? 2s lite and spacewalk 3s both seem to meet the criteria but not sure how loud they are. There are also others on amazon with incline that seem promising, like HomeTro, ACTFLAME, Sperax, WELLFIT, and COZYINN. Some seem to be whitelabel brands from the same chinese factories though.

Works a lot better than going from the front and over like you're used to with the Kensington

      @@lefnire you shouldn't, at least I don't, and I have slightly larger than average hands, so in the same ballpark as yours. It's almost the same angle as you would approach for a vertical mouse, with the medial pinky (i.e., the side that isn't next to another finger,; maybe some people call it "outside") more or less resting on the table Maybe you're pronating more than I'm trying to describe? with this grip you're mostly pressing with the sides of the fingers, not the pads/traditional pressing surface of the fingers Just trying to help. May not work or be comfortable for everyone, but it works well for me with the adept. Makes the top inner 2-3 buttons a little less accessible without moving the arms a little, but it's really comfortable for regular use. The ball is rolled mostly within the MCP to PIP joints' area. So approximately upper palm to first half of the fingers

      @@lefnire hope I'm not over explaining, but after seeing this recommendation on the ploopy subreddit or discord, it started working for me a lot better. I tried it out and found another way to describe it. For your left hand, if you hold your hand flat (palm down) and line your middle finger up to the left of the ball, you should have some of your pinky side palm resting kind of to the left of the device. Then, supinate 25-35°, holding that wrist position, you can adjust a little forward back and side to side so your thumb hits mouse button 1, and your middle finger is touching mouse button 2, which should be the left top in this scenario if using default mapping. Also, I tend to prefer using a palm rest for this device

    Just as a small note on the information in the video, the polling rate of both the Slimblade and Slimblade Pro is 125hz. The pro used to support 250hz over wireless receiver and 500hz over wired early on (the wired one I can’t confirm. I just saw it somewhere on the internet), but due to instability in tracking, Kensington released a firmware update to just make it 125hz across the board. Which is a bit of a shame that they couldn’t get that fixed. Confirmed it with my Slimblade pro here.

There is one hitch with Egofit: pet hair. I don't know what it is about the structure of intake to the motor, but it clogs with hair and dust fairly easily, so you have to take off the face plate and vacuum / clean out all hair and debris. It manifests as jerky motions when it gets clogged up. I haven't experienced this with my other treadmills, so it's worth noting.

    The position of the bearings impacts how much the ball will bounce around (spacing etc), other than the weight and type of bearing. If only there was an X-Keys-L-Track-inspired design that has more than 4 built-in buttons, slanted sides like the Slimblade (with slightly wider left/right click buttons), closer scrollwheel, was wireless and had dynamic (moving) roller bearings by default. Oh and that it wouldn't be so high that it requires a wrist rest. Ideally, since the ball is so huge, having the trackball entirely dropped (countersunk) into the desk would be comfortable (like a deep removable tray in a kitchen) or else use a standing desk and raise the keyboard up to compensate. All of this to preserve the size of the ball and the security of the plastic ring..., but that's mostly done by the position of the bearings AFAIK in the L-Trac anyway.

    Nice review. I ordered both the ploopy thumb and the adept, as I alternate between “top ball” and “thumb ball” form factors (I.e., the Slimblade and the logi Mx ergo). For the life of me, I can’t get the same accuracy on topball or fingerball devices as I can with thumballs, which I use mostly. It is interesting that ergonomically the slimblade is better for you than a thumb, as my experience is the opposite (often getting fatigue pain in the forearm from top ball use). Might be because I console game fairly heavily so I am used to using my right thumb for aiming with a thumbstick…?

      Not yet. It's highly lauded, same or better sensor and bearings. I likely won't get to it, the main reason is it has too few keys for my taste, and a less ergonomic design. I only review mice I plan to use (or hand-me-down), and I use the heck out of middle-click and back. I know it has an jack for expanded buttonry, but that's a bit rabbit-hole for my taste. From what I understand, the two king-of-kings are Ploopy Classic (which I *do* plan to review) and X-Keys L-Trac. L-Trac with a 57mm ball and mega-ultra sensor + bearings is as good as it gets, if you don't mind the form factor and few buttons.

      @@lefnire I found the settings for a 3D printed, angled, X-Keys L-Trac base. You can print either a right or left handed model. Came with two cutouts for two extra keyboard switches of your choosing. I've never held a soldering iron before, but after buying two mono cables for next to nothing on eBay, I was able to solder everything in place. For anyone who's never seen this trackball, it comes with two small sockets at the rear for two extra external switches. By default, without any tinkering, those two switches will provide 'forward' and 'back' on the Brave browser. I must look into getting them configured for Emacs too. There's a YT video that explains everything. Best thing is that it's impossible to get the wiring wrong. Just two soldering points for each switch, and it matters not which way round you do it. There's even recesses on the bottom to attach rubber bumpons. My only complaint: I can never remember the name of it. X-Keys L-Trac does not roll off the tongue.

    Thanks for the video and discussion on your trackball experiences. I found it interesting and informative. If I may, I would like to share my experience with a thumb-based trackball (Logitech Ergo M575). I have been using versions of this mouse for many years now for work and productivity (still use a mouse for gaming). When this mouse gives out, I may upgrade to the more vertical oriented version you showed in your video. You brushed past thumb-based trackballs very quickly dismissing them because of the risk of repetitive motion injury due to movement of the thumb. I am not a heavy trackball user for CAD, photo editing, or the like. I would say I am a moderate user. I also have no knowledge of thumb versus finger anatomy and what movements may be best for hand health. Intuitively, I feel that the thumb is made more for moving in multiple directions in the way a thumb-based trackball works. If a person is using a finger trackball and not hovering, that would cause a lot of lateral finger movement, which fingers are not built to do. The thumb is great at moving laterally and vertically.. I find that my "grip" on the mouse is a semi-hover. Similar to typing on a keyboard, I do not rest my wrists on the desk or the mouse. My mouse hand lightly touches the trackball mouse near the base of the pinky just to give me an anchor point. My finger tips lightly rest on the buttons and upper shell of the mouse. My thumb lightly rests on the trackball. For larger movements, I can engage my forearm, and for finer movements, I can engage just my thumb. These techniques assure I never have too much tension in any of my body parts. I also play guitar, so I am very aware of tension in my body for finger and hand movements. I hope this is helpful to someone. Let me know your thoughts!

Would be fun to get the build-it-yourself kit and make an evening out of assembling it! If you're down with this form factor, then it's wonderful for gaming. GameBall & Ploopy Classic are typically used for gaming due to polling rate & dynamic bearings. For people that live in a humid area I would only EVER recommend a Cabinet ball save yourself from everyday gunk cleaning that just happens no matter what you do due to humidity, its fluid consistent ball movement and the sensor but only Ploopy(High grade 3360 sensor) and x-key l-trac(Average grade Laser sensor) make this type of ball which is why the company is so loved and that they are eligible to charge so much.

How many videos could you find even demonstrating players using the slimblade for fast movement, fast but super controlled fps shooters at even a decent skilled level? That answer is none. I have not made that decision, people have.. Generally like to call them wedge finger ball trackballs. With the Slimblade, having a wrist rest that covers some of the bottom buttons helps prevent accidental clicks and feels more comfortable IMO. There's some videos about how the switches fail quicker than they are designed to due to low-voltage driving the switches. The X-Keys LTrac is another wedge finger ball, but the scroll wheel can be hard for some to use. I use a Kensington gel wrist-rest cut-up so it fits on the slope, required since I use a keyboard tray with next to no depth. Also the X-Keys has a 1000 Hz polling rate. I've got the roller bearing kit from tekhedd2006, and it's really smooth, but feels off-axis at times compared to the Ploopy Adept due to the old bearing mount layout (optical encoder 90 degree layout bleh). With roller bearings, you have to fight against them a bit if you want precise 360 movement all the time, annoys me too. Love the sound of roller bearings (as long as they're greased). If the Adept was about the same size as the Slimblade, that would be *chef kiss*. The MX Ergo gave me thumb pain, didn't help that mine went rough/scratchy, and I worked it too hard. X-Mouse button control lets you have profiles for each application, and is more lightweight than Kensington Works. Takes a bit to set up, but worth it.

Interesting about the low-voltage, I didn't realize there was something more behind the malfunctions; figured it was the rare case of hulk button-mashing. I believe the Ploopies are 1000Hz as well - I forgot to mention that in the video, big "forget" as it pertains to gaming (with GameBall, L-Trac, and Ploopy Classic being the main gaming contenders). L-Trac was definitely high on my list, and I'd love to try it sometime. Glad to see we've had similar experiences with axes, Ergo, etc - validates some of my trackball journey. Noted on X-Mouse.
