Installing the Sub-floor in our DIY Sprinter camper van conversion
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 года назад
In this video we show how the sub floor was installed, using Polyiso foam board to insulate under the 1/2” pure bond plywood. We used 3/4” aluminum square tubing to create a sub-structure that would support the 1/2” pure bond plywood and prevent it from crushing the foam board (Poliiso) set between the aluminum tubing. Once our aluminum structure and insulation where in place the pure bond plyw...

Insulating the front doors-Sprinter DIY camper conversion SD 480p
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.3 года назад
In this episode of our DIY van conversion we insulate the front doors of our Sprinter van with 3M Thinsulate. We did this project the same day we installed the speakers, so if you need a little more details on how to remove the door panels ...

Sound deadening our DIY Sprinter van conversion with Kilmat
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 года назад
Cargo vans are basically a metal box on wheels, and since they are not built for comfort or quietly riding down the road, one can hear the rattling of the metal, vibration, echos and the exterior road noise even when parked. In order to minimize unwanted noises we installed Kilmat sound deadening material in our Sprinter DIY conversion. Below are the Amazon affiliate links for the products we u...
Sprinter Van Conversion--Installing Roof Track System from VanTech

Sprinter DIY van conversion---Sealing side panels to make our van water tight
Просмотров 4,9 тыс.3 года назад
The first project in our sprinter van conversion journey was to make sure our van did not have any leaks, so we had to seal the side panels in order to make it waterproof. Sprinter vans will suffer from this problem and if not addressed it will cause leaks right into your walls, causing insulation and all other things behind the walls of your van to mold and rust! Why not just cut it from the inside?

    • @thevanventures1155
      @thevanventures1155 Год назад

      I am sure you could however, the inside has a ridge that doesn't allow the jigsaw to lay flat. We found it easiest (for us) to keep the saw flat against the outside skin reducing vibration and possible bending (or operator errors 🤔). This is also the same technique we used for the rear windows where we had to cut bracing that wouldn't allow us to "follow" the original opening. - Great question! Thanks

    You give yourself a lot of trouble reusing the genuine cups to fix the floor. Another DIYer just used standard bolts and round washers beveled with the plywood and screwed in the welded nuts of the floor like you did. ruclips.net/video/amLCMEibFtg/видео.html

    • @thevanventures1155
      @thevanventures1155 Год назад

      We didn't think it was much "extra" work and by using the factory cups we felt it gave us a little extra play when mounting as well as a little more surface contact area (the circumference edge of the cup vs the washer surface) - we do agree that the washer technique will probably be sufficient in most cases as well. THANKS for commenting and sharing the video - we love seeing how others approach their builds!

    • @thevanventures1155
      @thevanventures1155 Год назад

      we do not feel any trade school training is required - It's actually pretty simple with just a few tips (shown in the video 😎) - biggest tip, take your time, measure 2 or 3 times to insure the hole is the correct size and level. If you cut it a little too small you can trim but if you cut it too big = big problems!

    except the factory floor is better. Why waste?

    • @thevanventures1155
      @thevanventures1155 Год назад

      We wanted to insulate under the floor and also create an air gap for ventilation, once this was done the factory floor did not reach the walls (there was a gap all the way around).Also the factory floor didn't extend over the "step" by the sliding door where we are placing our kitchen. Replacing the factory floor with PureBond plywood resolved all these concerns.

    • @thevanventures1155
      @thevanventures1155 Год назад

      don't really want to seal the bottom holes or you will just trap water inside the door. When we insulated the doors we insulated between the door and the panel to avoid the insulation from getting wet (at least in theory 🤔)

    One of my bolts that holds the floor down just spins freely and won’t tighten. Did the nut on the other side fall off?

    • @thevanventures1155
      @thevanventures1155 Год назад

      some of the nuts are just RIVNUTS and others are more solid - my suggestion is to try to drill it out - if it's a rivet you can replace it simply - if not you may need a different solution.

    Hi, how did you determine the size/height of your wooden frame?

    • @thevanventures1155
      @thevanventures1155 2 года назад

      We measured down inside from the roof "skin" to the bottom of the support frames to make sure the frame finished flush with the existing metal roof frame. That way when we do the ceiling, everything will line up even from front to back and side to side.

      we have a 170" sprinter and used just under 2 boxed of 80 mil 36sf per box - you could probably get away with a 36sf box and a 18sf box - we used more than recommended. Per the instructions you only need to cover 25% of the panel - we covered about 30-35%. Figured a little extra wouldn't hurt 🤔

    The factory tweeter adapter mentioned... if you look at the instructions, the tweeter has three tabs on it. One on the top and two at the bottom, which match similar notches on the adapter ring. These are really hard to see unless you look at the diagram in the instruction first.

  • @ThePhatWabbit

    Wouldn't it be much a more guaranteed seal/easier fix if you just caulked the perimeter of where the plastic panel's edges meet the metal body of the van?

    • @thevanventures1155
      @thevanventures1155 3 года назад

      You could do that, but then the sealant would be exposed directly to the elements, it probably wouldn't be as good of a seal, and if you ever want to take the panels off in the future it would be a bit messy. Another factor for us, was not having the sealant visible.

    an additional know rust issue w/ sprinters in that area is that metal flange in the middle (4:40) water sits there. advisable to run bead of sikaflex (or better imo 5200) along the top of that flange so water flows down. cheers
