    Good to see progress on sodium batteries. Despite the weight and volume penalties when compared to lithium, it looks like sodium has large economic and environmental advantages, especially for large immobile installations, which could help even out the flow of power from sources like solar and wind. Maybe safety, too.

    This is exciting! As demand and uses for batteries increase, the technology will quickly get better and cheaper. Battery technology today is where the combustion engine was in 1900. There is VAST room for improvement.

    Due to its amphoteric nature you could use it as a cathode material for several ionic systems, or use it as an anode material in flouride or polysulfide ion systems. The downer is that vanadium is an extremely toxic metal and it needs a conductive scaffold to work, most commonly silver. Why dontbwe get all these batery researchers together and make a cheap, enviromentally friendly, high capacity long life battery.❤

    CaSn2 should hold a lot of ions. Using calcium as ions would csuse a problem on the cathode side, but if you use Na or Li ions it could hold 8 ions per unit cell of CaSn2 with the calcium being the current collector scaffold. Tin tends to form intermetallic rather than alloys with anything more reactive than hydrogen with the notable exception of gold as a result of relativistic electrons in the outer D shell.😮

    Yes polymer anode and cathode materials are ideal for +2:and +3 cations. You can even be more adventurous with Ti +4 batteries ❤

    Lots of ion transporters to use. The ions must be small or disolved in a phase change media. Positive ions that work are Li, Na K for +1 Mg Ca for +2 Al Sc Y for +3 and Ti for +4 F,Cl for -1 S for -2. Higher charge requires polymer hybrid electrodes for the anode materials. The cathode materials are weakly ionic salts and can be organic as well as inoganic transition metal compounds. For example ferrophosphate or ferrocyanide complexes work well with Na K and Mg ions, and ferricyanide salts work well for Al and Ca ions. So many choices ❤

    Sodium chemistry should allow alumimum to be used for both electrode collectors. Use silicon and SiC/graphite for the anode, use a ferrate or ferricyanide in a polymer for the anode. Add a little graphite and copper 1 oxide to improve conduction. Also exoeriment with Al 3+ Ions and F-1 ions for batteries A cryolite catode could use all 3 chemistries at once when combined with Co Mn or Cr ❤

      Tbh the aluminum would be best disolved in acid to form AlCl3 and H2 rather than attempting recovery as metal.
