I find the state of this cemetery to be shameful for those resting there, and the families who have paid them to keep their loved ones headstones and landscape properly maintained, dead and fallen trees lying across the land? Why are the headstones all crammed together too? It looks like they have been moved for some odd reason? To squeeze more people into their grounds? What other reason is there? And why in this Jewish cemetery too? I would call whoever owns this and be strong in getting answers if my loved one were there for eternity!

Thanks for your wonderful video of Camp Douglas. You captured the feel and spirit of the cemetery with your respectful narration of the video. As an ancestor of my Confederate Hero who died at Rock Island Prison,Illinois I can appreciate this even more.

SHE AND HER BROTHER, ABE LOVED EACH OTHER VERY MUCH.

She was SUCCEEDED, not PRECEEDED by Harold Washington. PRECEEDED would be BEFORE. Harold Washington DEFEATED her in the 1983 election.

The Shining miniseries with Steven Weber and Rebecca DeMornay was filmed at this location. They had the same "doll house" in the show, in the basement.

I worked in Illinois for a year in 99'. Guy I was paired with heard I was a Bulls/Bears fan so took me to this Mansion and where the Bears practice. Tho Jordan lived here at time we couldn't get in. Lol guy said we go had to check meters in the place. Worked at the practice place tho

Thank you for this. My 2nd great grandfather was in the 64th Virginia and was captured in 1862 at Cumberland Gap. He spent the remainder of the war at Camp Douglas.

I read vandals stole the plaques. But it was probably metal scavengers. They steal manhole covers and even brass urns from cemeteries, they did ask security guards to stop the spraying of graffiti after they cleaned it off. The park is not open to vehicles, but they have bicycle rides there.

The bushes actually cover the name to avoid people finding the grave

This location is just where the radar was. Where the missile bunkers were was a little South of Fullerton, and a little East of Lombard Rd. I remember as a kid in the early 60's when I lived on LeMoyne St in Lombard, a block south of North Ave, as we played we'd occasionally see the Nike missiles out of their silos pointing upward. This was usually once a month and as a young lad, was the coolest thing I ever saw! WE'd ride our bikes through the baron lands that existed back then to get a closer look but never made it quite the whole way. Just one of many adventures as a kid back then!

I lived across the street from from des plaines Ave where this cemetery was my childhood. The big hill that said Forest Home Cemetery was my view out my front window. I spent countless nights sneaking in at night just to walk around. To this day I’m obsessed with the history of this, waldenheim and others. There is so much that has since been covered since I was a kid. I remember being able to look inside the back windows of these mausoleums and you could see coffins half open. At one time none of the mas. Had doors cuz back in the day, people stole em, cuz they were made of copper. I never imagined their would be videos on RUclips. I have so much photography and videos I never thought anyone else would be interested!
