K1 / K1Max VFA reduction through pulley replacement (get rid of ringing and ghosting!). One of, if not the main problem of the first generation of the K1 / K1 Max are the VFAs (better known as ghosting or ringing). These do not occur with the K1C, the difference? The pulleys that drive the belts. Coincidentally, others have already come up with the idea of replacing these with smaller ones, as ...

Hello excellent work, one question did you adjust the belt in the bottom? Thank you
What is the yellow coating on the wire connections? I saw it on mine and at first thought the connections were overheating, but it seems to be some type of coating on them and I watched this video to see and it is on yours as well. What is it? Thanks.
Its glue to stop the connection coming apart.
@BrettJones84 thanks man. I had been printing like crazy, and somehow never noticed it.
So I'm about to do an ornamental cubone but question on the painting the ornamental parts. Is the aim to just brush it on without being like very detailed and in the lines? I'm not artistic so trying to understand the process so I can get the same look.
Nice! I just printed this in glow in the dark pla. Currently its judt a big blob of white. Need to figure out how to paint n highlight, wash, n drybrush it. I was thinking id use glow in the dark paints. I got some blue, green, purple glow in the dark. But if i lightly painted other stuff i bet it woukd glow through as well..
Hi, How to manage firmware update through Creality update process? Would it be necessary to modify the settings every time there is a new update?
you can update the firmware but it will overwrite the change, you will need to keep changing this setting.
hello minute 4:50 you are printing in black, lines are visible on the surface vertically. I have the same noise in my outer layers, will it be normal? thank you
My K1 Max Is a pain sense the ringing/wave issue is the only thing but its a BIG thing, if I am printing a glossy material its there and when you have a glossy material you dont want to sand it down.. before i owned a K1 Max i didnt know what ringing was now i wish I had bought 1 Qidi plus4 or something.
Absolute beast of a printer - A+++++ just bought and did some amazing prints.
Hit the pulley with heat then pull. Even a heat gun would do.
Any updates! Thanks for this video!
Did you see any reason why the pulley was so stuck on? Seems odd, did you try to blast it with a bit of heat and pull of that way? I think I'd just buy new motors.
i just got my k1 max and no riging and updated to the most recent firmwhere useing orcha slicer and this is putting out amazing prints i think they fixed the issues with the new hotend they put in it
This gets me to 230 hz belt tension instead of the 110 recommended Fyi 150hz the lowest I can get and seem to be way too slack already considering I got worse results when I lowered it to that 😭
I followed this excellent guide and together with a careful tightening of the belts using some strain gauges printed in PLA, my K1 is now printing perfectly and the VFA has completely gone. The hardest part was removing the pulleys from the shafts. At first, I tried a large nut splitter that I have successfully used on large steel nuts, but on the pulley it initially made a grove in it which only increased the surface area in contact with the nut splitter and I did not have the strength to get deeper than 5mm, with zero sign that the pulley was going to split. So next, I used an automobile workshop gear puller and with a lot of sweat, time, a little swearing and tons of superhuman strength, the pullys came off. Those pullys are designed to never come off and the ends of the shafts where slightly mushroomed with the pressure exherted by the puller - a little filing was then necessary to get the shafts back in the top bearings. If I was to attempt the feat again, I would use an angle grinder or a Dremel (if it could manage it) to cut into the pully and make sure stop a few mm from the shaft. Then try and split the remainder of the pulley with a wedge or carefully use a hacksaw.
Have you got a link to the configurations that need adjusting so I can copy and paste into klipper?
Germans cant remove pulley? Just use heat to thermal shock the adhesive before removing, or as last easy way cut nearly all pulley with dremel, then crack it in 2 parts.
That's a pretty conceited reply considering the pulleys literally can't be removed and even with an angle grinder it takes a long time to get those insane pieces off.
@@brianfrank4156 The "engineer" also doesn't know about heat release on a shaft...ffs.
Is this the best damm video how belt adjustment , that everybody´s need , thank you so much Bro
I printed something that keeps the tension screws perfectly upright so the belt runs parallel to the
vielen dank für deinen arbeit
With the creality helper script you can now install screws tilt calculate which will tell you exactly how much to turn each screw to level your bed.
Can I change the microsteps from 128 to something smaller? I'm installing a microprobe and it's shutting down the MCU and a friend thinks this might be the problem of overloading with 128 microsteps.
You could try any microsteps, it doesn't make a lot of difference but I've heard that 256 makes it run more precisely and silently
When I reduced it to 64 microsteps it stopped giving errors in the MCU but the quality of the part dropped significantly, I still haven't figured out how to use a 20T polyabde with a microprobe probe
I removed the original gear with ease using my power drill. I slowly stepped the clutch up to a setting that would drive the screw to push the gear out. Before using the drill, I was making no progress using my own strength and the printed part. Also, I printed the gear remover part out in PETG with 20 walls. Worked out very well and solid. Still waiting for my gear to arrive to seee the print result.
Think installing a new mainboard would negate the need to change the cfg file parameters ?
Why would you pay so much ? All you have to do is edit a line in a txt file.
Nice Idea. 👌
Don’t bother as it fixes nothing.
If pulleys are stubborn to remove use a dremel with a cutting disc. Don't cut the shaft. Take your time. The dremel will cut the pulley quickly. Watch for sparks.
When I try to put any of the motors back in place, the motor does not fit into the upper bearing, in the video I see that it goes in easily. Did you have to do something? Thank you.
I could imagine that if you remove the pulley by force on the rod that it gets deformed at the top, maybe use a file and take a little bit away at the top of the rod (all around the top / corner) so it can slide back into the bearings
@@J-S-T-E I got it to fit with a little sanding, thanks
Hello, do you think doing this with the z axis would fix the error 5256 z axis motor losing step? I can hear it slipping or skipping or something and it makes the auto calibration dig into and ruin the bed plates and rendered the printer unusable out of the box. I looked online and contacted creality but still haven't found a solution.
Does the lidar still work after root access?
Me pasaba igual, tengo mi teoria, 1.
Can I ask why you said not the k1. Can’t afford k1c. K1 I can afford on special. But you’d suggest v3 over k1?
The K1 had Issues at release, the units being sold currently seem to be updated with the newer extruder and hotend (not the unicorn one though like the e3v3 and k1c). I do not know if they updated the pulleys that drive the belts (Maybe, most likely not). With the K1C you don´t get those maybes. If you are missing money the E3v3 is probably the better pick than the K1.
do you recomend me the printer, do you like it? cause i view a lot of bad coments
If it is for Printvolume you should take a look at the ender 3v3+ or the k1max (new version, this is important)
But why not the x3 plus?
I finally got the mod done over the past weekend. Thank you so much for the guide! VFA is noticeably better now!
Hello, very good video. A query, does this affect the motherboard in any way? This week my k1 max had a failure (error 2566:X-axis motor drive abnormality). After doing a review, Creality's after-sales service will send me a new motherboard, they asked me for a photo of the engine to see what version it was and according to this they would send the motherboard.
I can not see why it should effect the motherboard, maybe they want to see the motor to see which version they need to send
Anyone know if the units sold on Amazon have the smaller pulley?
K1c
I am interested in seeing how this mod will fare with the K1 Max upgrade kit from Bondtech. both will need root anyway.
I see that the 2024 revision uses 4248 stepper motors over 4260s. I wonder if they can be used as a drop-in replacement for the 4260s? Do they require any config modding?
If your K1 has the 36T pulleys then yes, you will have to either change the config or swap the mainboard for the new one that supports 20T pulleys out of the box.
You didn't show how much you loosened the belts. Did you only use the tensioner screw in the side of the tensioner brackets in the back? I loosened mine all the way and it still feels pretty tight.
7 sections
Seeing the 8 screws that holds the top frame to the gantry, I am surprised no one has designed an extension piece that lifts the frame but not the gantry. That would relieve so much stress on the bowden tube. It also means extensions for the side panels and door or templates with the updated dimensions.
Rigidity, this top frame is what holds everything in place, but would be interesting to be proven wrong if someone tests! :D
@@stoffe9301 that makes sense too as you're introducing another point of weakness. It would have been nicer if it was thought of by creality when designing the K1 max.
it is much easier to print a riser for the lid
Thank you! Love the deck box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you thought about replacing the smooth idler pulleys that make contact with the belt teeth with 20t pulleys? I heard that also can reduce vfa
I did. The improvement was minimal. At some speeds was non. I put everything I've discovered about the toothed idlers in a K1/K1max facebook group.
Thanks! Just ordered the pulleys also waiting for the new unicorn nozzle
Did you use any loctite on the new pulleys?
nope, the little screws hold it tight and snug
Awesome video! I've been looking everywhere for clear instructions on how to do this. Thank you so much!
I could use some help. I set them to the values you had entered at the end of the video when I changed to the same motors as they are on the k1C or yes they are the ones less the gears on the motors that are mounted. But the machine goes out too far when I choose the printer to go home. How do I solve this?
I would guess that those pulleys do not have 20 teeth, the values i have shown are solely for 20 teeth. If there are more / less teeth the values need to be corrected
@@Print3D_it_is 42-48 for K1 Max
@@Tronix3dprint ok, i do not find any spec sheeets, so i can not tell how many teeth it has.
? do the belt paths stay parallel with the X and Y axis rods when the motor pulley is made smaller.? When I designed my coreXY I was careful to keep the belt paths parallel to the X and Y axis.
Are the settings you provided suitable for K1 in the printer config? I'm using the standard K1. @Print3D And I also want to change the belt. How many meters and what width of belt should I get? In the video, how many 20-tooth 5 mm pulleys did you buy?
Note that the steppers will have to rotate faster, which will cause loss of torque at higher speeds, so 600mm/s might not be possible anymore or could cause layer shifts
then that would have to be the case on the 2024 revision. unless the 4248 motors can do something the 4260s don't.
@@exakelgaming It is linked to the quality of the motors, but most of all the drivers, drivers settings and driver voltage. If there is not change compared to the pre-2024 version, then there is not much to worry about. Typically you want to run steppers below 600 rpm, after that they quickly lose torque.
