The Fish That Came Back From The Dead // Coelacanth, a living fossil
The coelacanth is a deep-sea fish that was believed to be extinct for 80 million years... That was until 1938 when a fisherman hauled up a modern-day specimen to the surprise and delight of the scientific community. Find out about this "living fossil" that seemingly came back from the dead.

What an informative video, thank you for sharing your knowledge about the fruit bats and their status in Mauritius. They are such beautiful creatures. I just looked it up and it looks like many were killed, it's really disheartening :c
Loved this, thanks! ❤
great content. But paints Evolution bad. Nothing happened for 360 million years, which means their theory is just bollocks.
Trust the science.
❤❤❤❤
just saw one today
Hang on, they’re from Europe and North America? Oh dang, I thought they were from New Zealand lol. Doesn’t matter, in vain such a beautiful animal gone for nearly 180 years. I really hope someday, they are cloned. And how dare those poachers killed this kind of precious bird.
You are very lucky darling very lucky
For
wonderful beautiful animals I wish we could do the same to humans, call out when theres too many of them, id love that so very much, we are taking every single space from our animalsm, all of them, its terrifying to think of a world without them and with just humans , humans are so evil i cant imagine anything like that, I pray and hope these animals are able to thrive in Mauritius and everywhere else
Would really appriciate if you can help me. Thank you
Hello I am a student from Mauritius. I need your help for dissertation plz can you help me and give me some advice about what i can put for my aim and objective. My title is shorebird feeding and habitat
Stories like this one and Neopilina's one make me very ecstatic! We don't know for sure how many (thought to be) extinct species are still out there in the sea depth (maybe something cooler than that boring "megalodon in the abyss" plot)!
You have beautiful little white teeth
Would you mind expanding this topic a little more? I live in the suburbs and my yard is full of these tiny teal blue wonders. There is one of those "man-made" lake/reservoir catchment for the area about half a block away from my house. I don't have any large bird baths or water schemes in my yard. Yet my yard is full of them! I have zero issue with mosquitoes which is wonderful being able to walk in the yard or sit on the patio. I don't know what it is they just come into my yard every year. I do have a fair amount of perennials but they are not in the gardens they are happier in the lawn. I don't clip the lawn very short, so maybe it could be the moisture is held for them? That's enough of my rant for now, I hope you can assist me in my quest for knowledge about this insect.
The biggest endemic mammals on Mauritius 🇲🇺
Hey! That island is a nature reserve. They are control by the government. If u touch them u are done
Twisted logic - get rid of pollinators because they eat from farmers fruit trees…. Which wouldn’t exist without pollinators. I really dislike humans.
One of my favorite piegon 😍 and second spinifex piegon.
Rip spix macaw
Looks like the Indian government have a mutch foresight as African governments. When the natives are starving then the whole world "must help" but the locals and there government put them in the situation!
I hate bats.if you relied on your litchees to make a few bucks or to simply eat litchees you would wish they never existed.man I wish they could be eliminated
Big species of fruit bats are unique form of life, important both aesthetically and environmentally.
They are keystone species in many areas they live in. Here's some good ways to cope- small aperture netting that won't let them get trapped, fruit "bait" trees that draw bats away from the fruit you want to go, and lastly perhaps we could *stop encroaching on their habitat*. The top reason the bats are coming into urban areas is due to habitat loss caused by humans.
Maybe the government should not cut forest where they lived. They won't eat your litchees.
Do you not understand what an endangered species is? Put some nets over your fruit and let the bats live.
Dang, to think that this fish has been around since the Devonian period! The oldest fossil specimens date to about 410 million years ago! It's survived several mass extinctions and has lived from the paleozoic to the cenozoic, that's three epochs (paleozoic (age of fish), mesozoic (age of reptiles/reign of the non-avian dinosaurs), cenozoic (age of mammals/birds or avian dinosaurs/that's us). It has existed way longer than the whole existence of non-avian and living avian dinosaurs put together. Astounding!
Thanks for the breakdown! Please do more on birds and animals that fly!!
Just came across this from a RUclips suggestion beneath my vid of the grey white-eye - much more common... Thanks for this, had never seen the olive one... must probably schedule a visit to l'ile aux aigrettes I guess!
Recently found that they can live a century
Thats should be a memorable day so beautiful
Don't worry, we're gonna kill them off in a couple of decades!
Hello did u do marine science also?
Some of the modules I took during my degree were marine science related. It was one of my favourite parts of my degree! :-)
@@EmmaCaton plz can i ask a question when u r at university and u have past yur year 2 do u get a diploma certificat ?
Wow
Thankfully they arent culling them here, in fact, here they are allowed to THRIVE! Seyshells Felicite island is FULL of these hauntingly adorable creatures!
Sad that the government has allowed for the killings of nearly half of their population, recently heard this. Let's hope we can do something so that the government prevents the killing them.
Easy. Listen to the scream when my wife sees one. Damselfly, "eeek" Dragonfly, "EEEEEEK, WHAT THE F..K IS THAT THING?"
They are so incredibly sturdy, yet antithetically, pretty vulnerable ( they may be infected by influenzavirus A carried by humans). Oh,by the way, nice channel. You are so pleasantly smiley and this is a great plus to be added to facts you share :P
Thank you so much Fabiano! Made my day. :)
@@EmmaCaton I am so happy to ear that! :D I am planning to start a channel- do not know when. I hope to have some fine equipment soon! I'll be talking about italian fauna, and if you feel interested,I'll drop a comment right here. Catch you later,Emma!
I also have a layer of fat under my skin but no one does a video on me :(
Haha I hear you! I've had far too many Easter eggs recently :P
Wow! It’s so awesome how even though it’s frigid cold the huddle still rotate penguins! So everyone kinda gets a turn lol
I know right! I find it so amazing. It's great that they all share the lovely warm centre. I guess surviving in those conditions is all about teamwork! :)

Hello on which tree do Madagascar green gecko live in mauritius
Glad to see you posting again. Your Mauritius videos were great and I like that you're branching out to include videos like this as well.
I always wondered, are there giraffes living close to the tropical forests too?
Great video. Next time could you also mention the speed in km/h? Also nice plants in the background.
Thanks! Good shout on the speed units! :-)
And the heights in feet 🦶
Nice explanation !
