What’s up with calling it “Yes band” and “Genesis band” rather than just Yes or Genesis?

I saw them live in the UK and they were great. Singer fell over on stage and I'll never forget the look on both their faces - singer recovered very well and he was enthusiastic, but it was a funny moment, yet omg the music they made that night was brilliant. Shame the band didn't go further for a few years. They have both done great music since. I saw Steve Hackett in 2022 Melbourne and Brisbane, did a meet and greet in Malta 2019 which was the best experience of my life ever meeting the musicians etc. Just hoping they both head down under soon. I heard Steve Hackett is doing the Close to the Edge Cruise next year. Oh how I wish I could go.

I have some advice for the next one......do the world a favor and get rid of that horribly obnoxious piano music!!! Good Lord, that stuff is AWFUL!! What are trying to do, make people ill !?!

Loved GTR. One of my favorites. Wish they could've done at least did one more album. But like Steve Hackett said in a another interview it was costly to keep it on the road.

Ah yes, I remember it well!. Pissed with rain, all night and most of the day, until about an hour before Genesis came onstage. The mud, by that time, was up around your calves, deeper in places, and it was soooo cold! John Martyn was just boring, he tried his best though, but was, as you can imagine, unappreciated, The Blues Band belonged in a dingy and smoke filled pub, not a soaking wet bowl filled with mud in front of 60 odd thousand equally soaking wet Genesis fans. They did at least get some applause. Poor Talk talk. I love this band, but I think that putting a band like them on the bill was just insanity. They were mercilessly bottled and jeered off the stage, which is a shame, because they did not deserve that. By this time I, along with everyone else, was freezing, soaking and probably, like me, in desperate need of some hot food. My tour programme has disintegrated with the incessant rain, despite being under all my top layers of clothing, my Kodak Instamatic camera was ruined, ( I think I managed to salvage 3 pictures of Genesis), when Genesis hit the stage. It was, in hindsight, worth every second, but it was hard going to get the crowd moving, probably due to being stiff with the cold! It was amazing to see the old Genesis perform all of the songs I grew up with, although I had been to see them on the Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering tour with Phil. I only wish that they had had the foresight to record and film this one-off reunion. Think of how much money they would have made for WOMAD if they had. Ah well, I did manage to secure another programme, (E-bay) and you can just about see the coloured blobs that were the pictures that survived!

Trevor has stated many times that he had never not thought of including Owner of Lonely Heart. Trevor Horn’ contributions are without question but Trevor Rabin was always going to use the song.

So Jon left Yes because he felt that that band had become too commercialised at the time - and next thing he did was release an even more "commercial" album! Oh well...

Yes was/is a continually evolving organization. ABWH was, in many ways, an Anderson offshoot that pulled three of the most important musicians into his concept. These musicians have always had serious problems, not with each other, but with their management(s). A band like Rush, which presents a diamond-hard front to the business interests that might split them, is very rare. Yes is far more typical of the divide and conquer strategy that professional "managers" employ to further their parasitic relationship to performers. Bruford was and is perhaps the most cynical of the bunch, but even he felt that ABWH had a real possibility of becoming something new and special, before the Union debacle. In terms of contributions, I would really have liked to hear what an organization of Anderson, Vangelis, Bruford and Levin would have sounded like. It seems to me that they were the most "interesting" voices on the ABWH LP.

I saw Genesis at Hammersmith Odeon on 28th, possibly 29th September 82. It appeared common knowledge that Gabriel & Hackett had played with, Banks, Collins & Rutherford at a small venue in London on 26th or 27th under the name of "The Garden Wall", this being part of the rehearsals for Womad. It was rumoured that as we were seeing the last night of the tour, Gabriel & Hackett might make an appearance to perform on a bigger stage. There was some understanding that Hackett was not happy with the Garden Wall gig, so less likley to show, but in the end neither did.

I like both, but you can't deny the fact that musically wise, ABWH music was a lot more yessish than the Trevor Rabin's band. But nonetheless, i miss Cris so much on ABWH, and i am a huge fan of Tony Levin or Jeff berlin. And don't talk about the band circling the world nowadays under the Yes moniker, without Chris Squire or Jon Anderson. No perfection in this world of ours, isn't it ?

ABWH were not really Yes until they went on tour playing Yes music. Sure, they were all in Yes at one point or another, but the ABWH album is quite awful. However, they are more Yes than today’s incarnation of Yes, who has Steve Howe, Geoff Downes and at a push, Billy Sherwood. Seeing ANY Yes song, let alone Close to the Edge, being played on electronic drums makes my teeth itch.

This album is so very special for me. Just graduating high school my dad took me to this hotel with a beautiful swim in rock cave pool. It's blue color so matched the album cover as i sat with headphones listening to this album. The incredible gentle double acoustic guitar break in the opening song just floored me. Then the amazing guitar and flute of "Preistess" so fit the waterfall i was looking at. And then "Shadow" had me hooked on this album for life. I'm going back to this hotel 50 years later with the love of my life. Thank you Steve!

I was at that concert 🎵,can confirm the rain and mud , can’t remember a great deal about the actual concert but remember the car being stuck in a field for hours trying to get home . One of those I was there moments I guess .

Asia the biggest band on the planet? I liked Asia but Genesis and the Police were bigger. As much as I liked 90125 and Big Generator, it felt less like YES than ABWH did... kind think of them as CinemaYES variant... but Trevor Rabin (Ray-bin) is a talent and the band rocked...

I picked up ABW&H when first released- it was an adjunct to YES but somehow not there. as incredible as Tony Levin's playing was on it... it was still not Chris Squire... 1000 Hands by Jon Anderson has a clear Yes-feel, as Squire had previously recorded some parts in collaboration with Anderson...

It is a greal band, but not yes, they can be called a supergroup, but yes was also ending up being a super group. I would say you should get the abwh album to add to your yes collection though, it is really good.
