Look at an employment application, it state's in plain sight, black or African American. Look up what the word black means, nothing positive at all. Finally, how did it start, savages, mulatto, negro, colored, black, African-American. Stop believing HIS STORY people. It is a complete LIE......

The horrors of slavery are a part of the history of virtually all ethnicities and tribes if the timeframe is pushed back far enough but certainly for blacks who lived in North America. While punishment and degradation were among the experiences of the enslaved people, other experiences were prevalent, as well. Slaves were taken from dozens of tribes so they spoke dozens of languages. Largely they could not speak with one another. After a few decades in North America, most slaves learned to speak English and children born in North America learned English as a first language. This was a mark of white domination, but it also enabled cohesion. Slave life mostly revolved around work. Slavery was a social order intended for the economic benefit of slave holders. Slave labor made slave holders wealthier. Work. was the primary focus, though many things were happening simultaneously. Slavery was so beneficial to slave holders that a few hundred thousand slaves were brought to mainland North America.

HBCUs use textbooks like any other college. No matter what level you are on in education, you get out of it, what you put into learning!! No matter where you go to school, white college or HBCU, if you don't put effort in, you are going to learn NOTHING, so it's not about being institutionalized. I attended an HBCU, and I was an excellent student. I read my textbooks & I did my homework!! I enjoyed the social camaraderie with people that looked like me!! As long as your teachers care enough to teach you, and you do your part, then you will learn!!

CHECK YOUR FACTS ON CHEYNEY? LINCOLN UNIVERSITY WAS FOUNDED IN 1854 (as Ashmun Institute, BY THE NORTHERN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AT ITS ANNUAL MEETING IN PHILADELPHIA, PA. it's purpose was "to confer college degrees to colored youth of the male sex" The first degrees were conferred in 1859. The 1837 date used by Cheyney is the date of the Institute for Colored Youth which was a high school for Black Girls established in 1837 by the Quakers .Its purpose was to teach them housekeeping skills. After moving around at several locations in Philadelphia, the ICY purchased the farm of John Cheney, about 20 miles from Philadelphia, in 1903. After the ICY closed in 1920, the state of Pennsylvania purchased the ICY land and buildings and opened its own State Normal School. At Cheyney. In 1951, it became Cheyney State Teachers College, and subsequently Cheyney University. After the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, on April 4, 1866, the Ashmun Institute asked the State of Pennsylvania for permission to change its name to"The Lncoln University." which was. granted. Needless to say, the ICY was still a High School located in Philadelphia when those degrees were conferred. Ironically, Cheyney and Lincoln are about 12 -15 miles from each other in southern Chester County, a medium drive from west Philadelphia.

Brown Paper Bag Test to HBCUs A look at admission practices for many of today's HBCUs reveals a woeful abuse of the black college mission and vision, an uneven exchange of student debt and continuing family hardship for tuition revenues and enrollment numbers. Historically black colleges and universities have been experts at distancing themselves from painful elements of their cultural past. One of those elements -- the brown paper bag admissions test. Propagated as urban legend but a real practice for some of our most reputable HBCU campuses, light complexion was once an admission qualification for college enrollment, and fraternity and sorority membership. The best candidates were as light as or lighter than the hue of a brown paper bag, ruler or other inanimate object brought to life with the task of adjudicating ethnic acceptance. Black folks today still suffer great growing pains to free ourselves of complexion-based valuation, but we've grown enough to cast it out from admissions standards at the HBCU. The thought of denying black people admission to a black college because of skin color seems beyond unforgivable; a direct arrow through the heart of the HBCU mission and cultural legend.
