Wings of Desire title sequence HD

The sky over Wim Wenders' war-scarred Berlin is full of gentle, trench-coated angels who listen to the tortured thoughts of mortals and try to comfort them. Told from the angel's point of view, the film is shot in black and white, blossoming into colour only when the angels perceive the realities of humankind. We open to a hand writing an extract from the poem "Song of Childhood" by Peter Handk...

Whilst colour was beginning to dominate film the French New Wave (La Nouvelle Vague) stripped everything back to basics and used predominantly black and white. In this film 400 Blows (Les Quatre Cents Coups) directed by François Truffaut, we witness an intensely touching story of a misunderstood young adolescent who left without attention, delves into a life of petty crime. Black and white seem...

A monotone colour palette a subtle integration of {tracked} sans-serf and serif capitals falling in and out of focus a microscopic viewpoint of trimmed pieces of fingernail falling to the surface followed by hair follicles sprinkled skin flakes reminding us of snow then finally a mournful symphonic interlude courtesy of Michael Nyman all add up to what is considered a close-to-perfect title seq...

I may be wrong but I think this first scene is a reference to 2001 Space Odyssey- the movement of the skin tracks closely the bones that the early human shatters with his newly discovered weapon.

Every element of the film is perfect - the soundtrack, the cinematography, the screenplay, the wonderful method performances by de Niro and Keitel, Jodie Foster, Cybil Shepherd, and right down to details like Scorsese's cameo, the gun seller, de Niro's "you talkin to me" improv. The whole thing is totally mesmerising.

That is a very interesting idea and as a fan of both actors I'm now laughing tits off at the prospect of the pair of them in same movie. Do you have a plot in mind and is it roughly based on pure fiction or something factual and so on and so forth? I actually could visualise certain parts of Legend on being on stage in theatre...🍀
