JJ & Thee Cuban Heels at Johnny D's
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.14 лет назад
Featuring Downbeat 5 / DMZ guitarist, JJ Rassler, DB5's rhythm section, hot-shot guitarist Julian Hammond, this already seasoned quartet churns out 60s influenced rock 'n roll, soul and greasy R&B, and cranks out instrumentals that are more turf than surf. Northern and Southern Soul, Chicago Blues, and the Toe Rag sound of 80s/90s London are all influences. Sounds of The Stroll, complement the ...

Hard to hear because of low audio and high background hiss, but the captions work.
Magic Fingers
Wow
I was at this show. What a treat it was.
True guitar master!!!
Fuck you Johnny.
No-one ever asks about his playing with Terry Reid. I remember when he came on stage flourishing his old fiddle, newly painted a startling shade of electric blue with gilt scrollwork applied. Got a spontaneous round of good humoured applause, whistles and cat-calls without even playing a note.
I saw him on In Concert in March 1974 and he played that blue fiddle on the song 'Ready Or Not'. Great mention! Reply if you read this TY.
Rest In Peace Allan
Excellent
Great song and performance.
And the award for worst audio, lighting and editing for an important interview goes to this video. What's next jump cuts of black cats at midnight meowing through pillows? This should have been a treasured interview please try it again.
Meow
Use the captions. Much easier to read than to listen to.
the coolest guy on earth and a great musician his daughter with ry and his son in concert was a moment i will never forget
He may not be the best but he's a real snappy dresser. Lol
No. He is the best.
😮 what ??
Is it just me or does he have an amazing ability to recall dates? At 7:10 he lists the exact day of an event from the early 80s. Hell, I can't even remember the year that he just said 30 seconds after watching this.
BEST BAND EVER!
Awesome seeing Allan so relaxed and open in the interview, nicely done! ( he's usually quite quiet, it's hard to get him to open up on camera )
Okay, I have to ask-How is Chad Wackerman doing this??!??!!!?
The interview seems to repeatedly cut off in the middle of ideas :/ It's rare to get to hear cimbalom players talk about their art in English, it's a shame that it's broken up like this.
I am so fortunate to be born in the same era as that of Allan and to watch him and meet him in person, I think, I can die peacefully now!
@ryreinhardt, Dave may not be the greatest "guitar player" that ever lived but I think it safe to say probably the most versatile stringed instrument player that ever lived.
Markham is still playing? That's cool. I thought he gave it up when he left SoCal.
@widepass Are you shitting me? His rhythm and sense of harmony is out of this world.
@CherokeeMusic The taste of the general masses is conditioned thru media brainwashing that attitude is more important That forging into less popular waters such as, real talent, spiritual awareness & inward explorations thru the melodic vistas of an all but forgotten universe, won't win the popular vote.
Lol, he's clearly drunk. Of course he's going to sound a little retarded.
@Samsgarden Good point.
jeez... did he really appreciate some one coming to actually talk to him and hear what he thinks?
Wanderful brothers! Greetings to the Ñawi band for your nice music.
@CherokeeMusic I don't think Holdsworth would have artistic freedom on a commercial level, plus there are so many things wrong with that statement....I don't want to elaborate further on it.
Jonathan Herrera on bass?
As weary as I am of overrated musicians, I really wish Allan Holdsworth had achieved more commercial success in his life. Nobody deserves it more than him, and yet, his music is still so esoteric. WHAT has happened to music, people? How is it that talentless drones like The Jonas Brothers are making millions while dedicated, passionate artists like Holdsworth and Eric Johnson go unnoticed?!
hey thanks for this excellent post , I love Allan and he has been the best in my book since I first heard him in the 70's and aside from his talent he is a wonderful humble pleasant down to earth guy . I think every musician should expose themselves to his talent and art , and go see and support him , he is a jazz musician who makes a living playing guitar and has a family . Allan is a special gift to this world , and I hope the world treats him as such , forever .
He sounds so humble and thats the mark of a gr8 human being. Screw all these "famous" guitarists. I think Holdsworth is THE greatest guitarist since Hendrix (and Eddie Van Halen...knows that!!).
Yeah it's not WHAT you play it's HOW YOU PLAY IT!
No guitar player comes close to AH's technical skill.
RONALD BRUNER JR should jam with Holdsworth. I LOVE chad too!!
Bouzouki
Awesome! This is the man who inspired me to play music!
yeah me too.
thata's awesome!!! thanx for putting this up!!!
gotta love the electric addition.
thank god he doesn't exagerate the british accent, can't take five minutes of a hugh grant movie
Sorry I missed him this last time through.. I was at the show in the video.. he was wonderful as always.
aaah love Johnny D's , so many good nights of music there I remember, during my Berklee days ;)
right on.
Refretting the Delap guitars?
I think that "this dress" is Craigs best song!
this has made my morning!!!! thanks a million for posting this vid on the DOC.
Thank you for posting this!
Wow! What a soulful voice and presence!
Ruthie blew us away recently at the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, Australia. Such a powerful, soulful voice and a heart of gold to match! We can't get enough of Ruthie!
