Mini docs for my fellow TV history nerds.
I grew up loving shows like the E! True Hollywood Story and Mysteries & Scandals, and I love doc series like CNN’s History of the Sitcom and The Story of Late Night.
But there are so many amazing TV stories yet to be told!
This channel fills that void with mini documentaries exploring the greatest, most memorable and famously infamous episodes in television history.
From the celebrated to the scandalous, TV has a long, incredible… and sometimes wicked history.

Larson left Universal in 1980 and set up shop at 20th Century Fox where his first series (The Fall Guy) was a breakout hit. Unfortunately, his subsequent work did not catch on with audiences with shows like Manimal, Masquerade, Automan, Trauma Center, Half Nelson, Cover Up and The Highwayman which was the last pilot he produced for the studio after the production went over schedule and over budget. When NBC ordered the show as a mid-season replacement after the surprisingly good ratings generated by the two hour pilot, Fox turned down the order stating they could not produce the show without incurring a huge financial loss which forced Larson to secure foreign financing to cover the nine episode order. In the 90s, Larson signed on with CBS to produce several series including P.S. I Love You and One West Waikiki. His final series creation was the sci-fi superhero show Nightman for Tribune Entertainment which was syndicated to Tribune TV stations in the U.S.
The other piece of the Garner-Larson feud was the Stu Phillips theme to Larson's 1976 pilot "Bennie and Barney: Las Vegas Undercover" which rips off a number of riffs from Mike Post's The Rockford Files theme.
Robert Reed had a bad relationship with Sherwood Schwartz. They were both dogmatists on what they wanted the program to be. Reed preferred drama with a purpose. Schwartz was the producer and it was a comedy, so Reed lost.
No matter how fake or unreal some of those episodes were everyone still loves the Brady Bunch. I know I did watching Nick At Nite. Of course, what better episode to get kicked off of than the last one. Of course they didn't know, still, the unceremonious way they went off if you going to get kicked off the show, that seems the best one to get kicked off of.
In May, 1987 my one and only baby brother was murdered. He was only 23. To this day, I can't hear "What would we do, baby, without us?" and not cry. Love, love, love Michael J. Fox, particularly now that my bright, beautiful Mama's stuck in a baked-potato body with that damned Parkinson's. Life just ain't right sometimes.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) There is nothing more important then getting right with the Creator, Jesus Christ. Those that refuse to come before him and repent with godly sorrow for sinning against him will stand before him in judgment and be cast into the lake of fire. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Heb 9:27) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15)
Yeah, he died as a Sad Sorry, lonesome individual by taking his own life. Was it worth it? I don’t know.
👍 ❤🎉
i was born 92" i didnt grow up with this show.. but i found it years later and this was the first episode(s) i ever saw it hit me hard :(
One of the greatest comic geniuses of our time. He warmed the hearts of so many. It’s sad how he chose to go.
And I have the t-shirt.
Larson was supposed to be involved in Magnum P I. Selleck said he would not work with Larson so Bellesario worked on Magnum. Selleck had recently done two Rockfords as Lance White. Garner must have mentioned Larson to Tom for someone getting their fist series to make such a demand
The Magnum we see on screen was Don Bellisario's creation. The Writer's Guild granted the show creation credit to both Larson and Bellisario.
Everybody makes fun of Henry for not being able to ride a motorcycle in real life yet no one makes fun of Robin not being able to fly a spaceship in teal life....go figure
But he could waterski in real life. So thanks for that!
Henry Winkler stole the stage whenever he appeared as Fonzie... except when Robin Williams was there.
Hecwas gat
Garner a Korean war veteran two purple hearts stood up for film crew against arrogant tv film stars stood up to Charles Bronson and james franciscus
Family Ties was artificially sweetened pablum reeking of putrid Reaganism.
Thanks for the view!
Wendy Schaal was so cute.
He was a great entertainer. His career took a major hit when he was caught in that theater, (which wasn't really a crime, just very embarrassing) but when he stared along side Johnny Depp in 2000, in the movie Blow, he showed that he's a really good actor. R.I.P Paul🙏
I was always confused by this episode since we had never met Greg the best friend. I remember thinking they should have killed off Skippy for the episoe to have emotional impact. I am happy to see it was so impactful to so many however for me this episode seemed like a weird failed experiment some producer made as a passion project.
It's the drama which causes aggro the script dictates What sort of dialogue and Action personally I wouldnt Be involved in acting Best to live real life!
This was my favorite episode what season is it
Season 5, Episode 23/24
Loved this show in the seventies.
M.A.S.H. broke the mould for a sitcom that goes to exploring such topics. but this FT episode was definitely one of the most memorable.
This was a great episode. Family Ties had a few emotionally strong episodes. Another good one from Growing Pains is when Matthew Perry’s character died. Tracy Gold really tapped into something real in that one.
Wow! Incredible story.
I don't know why the algorithm is only now suggesting this to me. I feel a little cheated out of not getting to see this when it came out. One of the best documentaries I have seen in ages. It has a little of the feel of The Kid Stays in the Picture.
High praise thank you!
Morks came to earth in an egg looking spaceship, now we have the tic tac ones, they were telling us back then.
I loved this show
Perfect example when it comes to you’re work shut up and do as youre told or you get axed
Back when TV was still purposeful and wholesome.
There were sone amazing stuff on in those days. Huckleberry Finn and his friends. Lorne Greene's Last of the Wild.
1:04 to 1:24 it was of course a ridiculous policy, I think you might be off your rocker with that one, as garbage in, garbage out, even the guy who played one of the duke boys thinks they should go back to that just given how bad its gotten, as decency and standards are never a bad thing, and norway in particular had a really good idea, there was 1 day a week on a sunday where they would show mccloud and all the american tv police programs, a crime sunday, and just kept it confined to that vs having it 365/24/7, with constant repeats of awful crime shows everyday hell i think the same thing should be done with politics, no politics on youtube unless you seek it out, as a way to get away from this peer pressure politics thing they do nowadays as why do you think people seek out old tv shows in the first place, its not because the new ones are good, it gets away from that stuff, as back then they had standards hell why do you think your covering this and not the latest episode of CSI, as no one wants to see that trash, they wanna watch something good lol and if you really wanna see a DROP in quality and standards, watch the original CSI, the first season vs the latest one, and tell me something aint missing there
its more interesting to watch his hairline keep changing in every interview.
I have all seasons on DVD and have watched every episode an unhealthy amount of times. What I loved about the show was the relationship between the 3 main characters. They all contributed and should have been paid equally. Also, they did the Ropers actors bad. I like Mr. Furley but the Ropers were hilarious.
I love binging Rockford on Roku.
I quit watching Happy Days after Robin Williams. I never watched Mork and Mindy because of him.
I remember this episode and I remember reading the TV Guide "close up" feature on it before it aired. When it basically turned into a one man play, I was shocked; I'd never seen anything like that on TV at the time. I think about this one a lot: impressive that it has this much staying power with me after all these years.
On Sanford and Son Smitty and Hoppy got comically stoned.
Yes that was the example I used.
4prEPS on bestEPS
I loved to see one of these on his time during ' the fisher king "
I saw this episode. Very heartbreaking, and MJF’s best performance.
This episode really shaped my empathy as a kid. It hit me really hard, (in a good way) just realizing that people with hopes, dreams, plans, can just...end. We don't think about this enough.
This show was, and is still awesome
The real grizzly Adam’s hated bears😂
no mention of pat morita?
I don’t think he was in this episode.
I LOOOVED Alias Smith and Jones....BECAUSE it was a rip off of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, one of my favorite movies back then❤😎👍
Michael J Fox's finest hour was the movie The Hard Way with James Woods ⚡
Definitely underrated.
@@tvsbesteps I watched it again recently and still enjoyed it just as much 😜
why did he just pay her under the table? Problem solved.
I usually vere towards 50s and 60s tv but family ties and wonder years are amazing shows
