@@musingsofahomeschooler5332 It's because this season expands beyond JTTW to the wider Chinese mythology.Specifically the chinese myth of the Great Flood.For the chaos outside the bubble thing,I'm sure ppl that follows cultivation genre are familiar with it,and I'm pretty sure the genre is mostly Taoist-influenced than Buddhism 🤔 Honestly,other than the reference to 'cycles' and Mr.Tang's end monologue,I feel like there's little amount of Buddhist references this season.Both Xiangliu (and probably his boss,if he appears) and Nüwa are figures from folk Chinese belief,unlike Guan Yin & Wukong. (If this reply looks confusing,it's because I saw both of your comments,so I decided to just reply here)

@@SushiMara To be more precise,we're feeling Ninjago's fans pain.Cause Flying Bark can't work on LMK anymore since they're also doing ATLA,so we got a studio change with a rushed production.Worst part is,I think you can even see the rushing on the bad English translations.They changed Azure Dragon to Teal Dragon and they mistranslated Nine-Headed Pest's line of being descended from Xiangliu to being Xiangliu himself.

⁠@@claudius3359Also, the series’ original language is in English, it just released in Chinese first. The creators, writers, everyone else, and both of the animation studios (current & past) are not Chinese. There is a Chinese dub, but not an English one because it’s originally in English. The animation, writing, voice acting, etc is made for the English version.

The show has always taken liberties when it comes to what parts of the book are canon vs. what parts are changed or merged together. None of the production on this show is done in China, it's just marketed there. As of right now, the only change in the show is the animation studio. Flying Bark was dropped and replaced by Wildbrain, which is why animation quality nosedived (and it probably means we'll get less anime references going forward, since the old director and storyboarders who snuck all those in work for Flying Bark)

@@Commenter839 Yeah,I was told that,but I'm ngl I kinda doubt it (yea I should've said that first) since I've seen some voice lines to be kinda...Idk how to say it,it's like certain lines have odd timing or are a bit rushed.I also said that because we've seen Xiangliu in season 4 with the exact features from Shan Hai Jing and its illustrations.Which is also the case with Nine-Headed Pest's appearance in the show that matches his JTTW appearance (I can copy paste the poem that describes him in the book if you want cause it'll make this reply too long).I'm just theorising ofc so take it as a grain of salt,but I find it unnecessary to change it when even both physical descriptions match.

The chinese goddess of creation.She and the entire theme of this season never appeared in JTTW (small references barely counts),but she is more prominent in another book called Shan Hai Jing/Classic of Mountains and Seas.Basically MK is from another book lol.

But from seeing other people's theories & discussions,each cycle may slightly differ from the other,like how MK refuses to sacrifice himself in this one.Someone theorises that in the previous cycle,Nine-Headed Pest might be Wukong's friend.Another says maybe he's LMK's version of Flood Dragon King,the 7th brotherhood member.Someone even theorises he's the previous harbinger of chaos,which is crazy and is not the least crazy theory.

@@WolfScoler Ok but jokes aside,when you take the perspective of someone in power or someone who is very ancient with great power who tries to fix everything while not having to feel how it feels to be mortal/human with emotions,I feel like this is the result.You take a solution that still serves good,but it's not gonna be agreeable to mortals.I'm convinced Nuwa cares about her 'children',but she's distant enough from them to have the heart to take the decision. We may not know much about LBD,but she strikes me as an ancient force of nature with immense power who tried to 'fix' humanity and see their failures too many times,until she gives up. The belief of 'destiny' and 'fate' isn't just LBD.It comes back to how Wukong's story is about defying all of them.A monkey isn't fit to dwell among deities,but he did.MK's purpose was to serve Nüwa to fix the sky,but he defies it. Idk just my take on it honestly.
