Hotel rates in Vancouver is highway robbery. Some go as high aa $900 plus, almost as expensive as the legendary and iconic Raffles Hotel in Singapore, where you get a suite and butler. But in Vancouver, it is just ordinary. I live in Ontario and planning to visit Vancouver, and was shocked when I was looking for a hotel to stay in. But hotel prices in Toronto are expensive too. Both Vancouver and Toronto should be in the top 10 expensive cities in the world.

Not sure I understand the situation. Was your plan always to spend the night in Vancouver? It seems as though you were looking for hotel rooms that same night you arrived, in which case the price you were quoted wasn’t too bad, relatively speaking. It’s always a risk booking last-minute, especially in a city like Vancouver which is expensive to begin with and where a trade show, conference or travel groups can significantly reduce the availability of rooms and cause prices to skyrocket. Fairmont Vancouver Airport is considered a premium hotel and $479 per night is not out of line with what they charge in 2023.

Just 10 min drive sandman signature (CAD$ 85 to $150 in between), with free shuttle to airport, same amenities (more or less what Fairmount offering). With breakfast let say $200 all together .... i guess just a common sense 🤷

Its the Fairmont, duh! Plenty of other airport hotels less pricey close by. Bad planning and poor researching on your part. No sympathy. Btw, I live less than 7km from the airport and there at least 15 hotels in the near area that are half that price.

There's several options just outside of the airport in the Richmond area. But Not sure if the cost of taxi (to and back) + hotel would be <= one night stay at the airport hotel @480. But B.C. stands for Bring Cash :)

That's cheap accommodation for Vancouver. This is expensive city! You need to do some research and change your expectations for this city.

Nice trip report but I think if you are doing a business class review you should have shown the business class lounge not the first class lounge you had status for. Not a true business class review.

The lounge is nothing special.

I would have spent the night at the airport hotel, and NOT complained about it. I would have made it enjoyable for my wife and make some awesome memories. Just saying....

Not a chance. I'd of stayed at the airport floor. I've missed a flight once and had to do it , and met a lovely young man who looked after me and we had a laugh .

I would have found a tim horton's to sleep in, where the smell of freshly baked doughnuts would put you to sleep. or I would have asked celine dion to take me in. actually none of those are realistic options so I guess I would have done the same.
