How to make strawflower garlands as natural Christmas decorations with Bex Partridge
Просмотров 8662 месяца назад
It has become a Christmas tradition in my house to fill every space with seedheads and glowing dried flowers. It’s the one time I’m allowed to go all out when it comes to bringing nature inside, and so I make the absolute most of it. Dried flowers can offer such incredible beauty during the darker winter months, and provide a hint of sparkle and joy in dark corners and cosy nooks. They also off...

That was educational while being a treat to watch and admire!
So amazing 👌
His eyes are so blue I got scared for a second.
Yours would be blue if you had dug it out by hand
@nicwilkin4743 that sounds like a threat😭😆
Great to see your beautiful garden …it’s like heaven…the airy wild fluttering flowers and grasses ❤❤…Im obsessed with wild native plants…wish we were nearby…we’ve enjoyed digging out a lake and can’t believe how it’s changed in 4 years …id love you to visit,,come and stay @thewildmanwoods We’ve soooooo much in common 😊
Just beautiful wow.🤗
Dan didn’t create gardens, he created living, thriving environments for wildlife to thrive. I am so inspired! Thank you so much.❤
Just beautiful with such a wonderful sense of place. Thank you for your art!
Beautiful view nice plant information
Completely beautiful. Just so inspirational. The way forward. Thank you Dan. ❤
Enjoyed seeing Hillside in GI issue and to see Dans tour was so special. He is so creative amd i love the feeling he has created and the airy planting but so well balanced with use of structural elements like the troughs and shrubs . Inspirational ❤
❤
Beautifully inspiring, imbued with purpose. Thank you.
Wow, Dan is such a talented designer
Dan talks about his garden being a smaller part of a much bigger environment. I love this idea, and try to do the same in my (much smaller) garden. Dan really is the GOAT! Thanks for sharing this wonderful garden 😊. It makes me long for summer.
Heaven on Earth.
Sublime
Magnificent.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden. I am always surprised to see nasella tenuissima used in landscapes as it is one of the most invasive grasses on the planet making thousands of seeds each season. It thrives in California and it always escapes outside of the landscape it was planted it.
Thank you so much, Huw and Dan, a glimpse for us all who have not been lucky enough to visit your wonderfully special garden - magical - both the gentle filming alongside the music. I will be referring back to your choice of plants - always so inspiring.💚
Beautiful. "The Ditch" deserves a much more loving and dignified name, no? I like "The Springline"
Anything is better than "Wet Crease"
Thankyou! Great video and lots of insight. Dan's style is insantly recognisable, it reminds me of the south african meadow at Wisley in that there aren't really any dividing lines. Everything is in one 'room' and nothing is significantly taller than the rest. It looks both completely natural and completely planned at the same time. I love the dry packed white concrete wall at the end too. Really interesting planting into sharp sand. I'd seen that before but had no idea it would be 150mm+ thick. I also garden (not too far from Dan near Bristol) on heavy soil so that could work for me if I want a dryer planting area.
Can anyone tell me the name of the beautiful grass over Dan’s shoulder in the early section of this wonderful short film?
Amazing, the planting is so wonderfully loose and flowing. Very inspiring.
Is that pond heart shaped? Wow this is gardening on such a great scale. The Bio Diversity looks to explode!
My favourite Gardener, I love following his blog and I’ve been waiting for a video like this! Thanks GI
So impressive, clever and inspiring ! Thank you for sharing it with us
I had it in a Melbourne garden and lost it, think it just needed a bit of a drink. Lovely plant, will try again
What a stunning garden!
Fabulously inspiring and intelligent design, as would be expected
So if everyone follows the rewilding fad, vegans aren't gonna be able to eat. Guess that's good.
It is a very lovely garden, but as a Norwegian I dont understand Why one would ruin farmland and pastures? As a farmer in Norway we have to little farmland for the amount of food needed to be a selfsustainable country, norway is only 30% self sustainable with food and only 3% farmland. So farmland is considered valuable
Of the 20 acres, I understand only about 10% is ‘gardened’ and that is providing incredibly rich and diversified habitats for plants, animals, insects and birds, something which we need to be mindful of for the future. Before Dan started at Hillside it was pretty much a monoculture for grazing cattle. The land is too steep for arable farming. Most of the garden is where there were originally service areas for the farm, or where the land was too wet for grazing. I believe a large part of the whole is still pasture or meadow, presumably rented to a local farmer, and I think I spotted sheep in the orchard area beyond the sand garden.
Wonderful! Very airy and naturalistic.
Nice play ground
Is it just you and your partner talking care of this? All these perennials and grasses here (Oregon) would need to be lifted and divided every 2-3 years not to mention seasonal pruning
Though lovely, I can't even begin to imagine what it would take to care for all of that. In my rainy climate here in SW Pennsylvania, I would need to hire at least 1-2 full time gardeners just to keep it in decent condition, let alone actually thriving.
An absolutely lovely tour of your property Dan and Huw. Thank you so much. I was first introduced to your design work through your book Home Ground: Sanctuary in the City, and have been an avid follower ever since.
Oooo that was so wonderful to watch! I have seen bits and pieces of footage of Hillside over the last few years and it’s wonderful to see the incredible progress that Dan has made, so many interesting areas of planting and all of it looks so amazingly natural as if it has just sprung up with no intervention at all; his touch is so wonderfully light! One of the most talented designers of the last few decades without a doubt!
Loved this style of gardening and the explainations of the concepts✨
This was lovely to watch so thank you to all concerned . I have always admired Dan’s work and to see his own garden & hear about its development was so interesting & enjoyable.
Thank you, Dan and Gardens Illustrated. This was every bit as inspiring as I’d hoped it would be. Now just need to watch it again and make notes….
So glad you enjoyed it!

Fantastic natural soundtrack and a gorgeous castle. What more could you want? Lovely 😊
This is gorgeous ! The pool and the borders are beautiful !
I would love to see the various stages of the build! Looks amazing
Love this, really adds an extra dimension to the printed article
Beautiful pool and surrounding planting. Superb work! Very tempted to make one of these over a wildlife pond but I just think they'd be too much worry/hassle in the long run and I'd rather the wildlife enjoy the pond :) God tier swimming pond this one though, has to be said.
😲 uhhh quien pudiera, sueño con tener un Lugarcito para nadar ...
wow looks so good
