Took that ferry in Dec/Jan. Quite long, and not something I would do again in a hurry (although it was cheap and I'm glad I tried it once). Something I found very frustrating were the porters and drivers around the port on both sides, although luckily you avoided them by taking a scooter. Interested to hear about your experience with the police. Although I had no direct negative experiences with them, I have heard many stories of corruption and wrongdoing throughout police, public servants, and government generally -- which, on top of the wrongdoing of some everyday people, really made Indonesia feel lawless to me.

You can walk the street drinking one and spot the next place to buy before you finish it. At the beach seller's will bring them to you. Don't bin the empty bottles leave them empty and upright near a bin. They get collected. Be courteous to all Balinese always.

I visited Jakarta late last year. Basically had the same experience as you: denied entrance to the mosque, Monas closed and took a photo from the gate, and I walked around/enjoyed Batavia. If you have time, Taman Mini is pretty good. And also there are quite a few good museums around the perimeter of Monas. My guess is there were lots of people out and about because Ramadan had just finished and so it's the first time many people can go out and drink/eat during the day since then. I also came to Lombok and stayed for a few months.

I went to Lombok a few years ago and loved it. But I am hoping to go again this year in July but I'm not sure what the situation is with Covid restrictions. I'm planning to fly from the UK via a stopover (maybe KL or Singapore) then onto Lombok. Any advice for latest updates
