"It's For You" - Paul McCartney with the George Martin Orchestra (1964)
Two years ago, a rare acetate recording from 1964 of Paul McCartney singing "It's For You", a Lennon-McCartney song given to Cilla Black, was auctioned. The auctioneers uploaded a 20 second excerpt of the demo online.
I took Cilla Black's version (backed by the George Martin Orchestra) and removed the vocals, then added Paul singing from the demo.
It's not perfect; the reverb heard on the audio is from Cilla's vocal track, and Paul's voice cuts out after 20 seconds due to the selected audio provided by the auctioneer. But it's a good representation of what the song would have sounded like if Paul recorded it with a band in 1964.

"I Get A Kick Out Of You" - Ethel Merman - "Anything Goes" (1936)
Просмотров 70 тыс.6 лет назад
Watch in 1080p "I Get A Kick Out Of You" by Cole Porter. Performed by Ethel Merman in the 1936 Paramount film, "Anything Goes". Ethel Merman plays Reno Sweeney, who sings her song of unrequited love to Billy Crocker (Bing Crosby), whose eye is concurrently and ironically caught by Hope Harcourt (Ida Lupino). "Anything Goes" was one of the only two films in which Ethel Merman reprised her Broadw...

Watch in 1080p "Satan's Holiday" by Sammy Fain, Irving Kahal, Pierre Norman, & Al Segal. Performed by Ethel Merman in the 1930 Paramount film, "Follow The Leader". "Follow The Leader" was Ethel Merman's film debut. The film also starred Merman's "Girl Crazy" (Merman's 1930 Broadway debut) co-star, Ginger Rogers. Merman plays Helen King, a member of George White's Scandals. Merman actually becam...
It's so nice.
1000th like.
You should listen to Three Dog Night's cover. Amazing.
ONE BEER
Paul better than Cilla any day
he kind of sounds like he did in the early 80s here
Incroyable tout les mois des news des Beatles, j'adorrrrrrrre Fannnnnnn a vie
yrth
The original.😅 Jack Michael Gilroy, Army OSS.
Strange song. Nothing like it ever.
Bit wobbly, Paul, but you more than made up for it later on.
Almost thought he was going to do I'll Follow The Sun
there's a radio show where Lennon is cohosting and says here's one Paul and I wrote for Cilla. I wonder how much his contribution was. great song just really heard it.
@tommaloney3938 According to what my late friend, American journalist Al Aronowitz told me many years ago, the song is a McCartney composition and it wasn't written for Cilla Black. Paul wrote this for 'A Hard Day's Night'; it was intended to be on the soundtrack for the band's first film. It was one of FIVE songs written by McCartney that Lennon-for whatever reason-REFUSED to include on the soundtrack. In the end, Lennon suggested that Paul pass it along to Cilla Black, whom John Lennon just adored. Paul complied, cutting this demo and giving it to Cilla so she could repeatedly listen to the song to learn how to sing it and memorize the lyrics.
Magnificent
NOT Billy Shears. CUCKY BOOMS
Three Dog Night did a great version in L.A. on the 1969 "Captured Live at the Forum" album.
Just had a listen. Terrible interpretation! Reduced it to nothing
Paul...the master of melody. A true genius.
I believe Cilla Black would never had made it without the backing of the Beatles, if she entered Pop Idol, she wouldn't have got past the car park audition, IMHO. This clip shows Burt Bacharach frustration of working with Cilla: ruclips.net/video/AL5nm0-iDu4/видео.htmlsi=3H1-jlPYNfmw95UY
The beginning sounds like the melody for I follow the sun.
At least she got to sing this in Kid Millions ruclips.net/video/-AiRDBvqqcA/видео.html
It's a great song - dramatic and theatrical - but this voice (Paul's?) doesn't do it justice. It even goes off-key.
Man this is so well done. Makes me so sad that we can’t have the whole thing
Paul had planned to record this for their next album after Revolver. But when he died in September 1966 and The Beatles began recording Pepper with William, William heard Paul's demo. But he didn't like it and gave it away.
Interesting. This song is from 1964 you daft cunt.😂😂
what a load of crap. Paul never died. Refer us to the reference that Paul was going to record a song he gave away three years earlier. You notice your text never got any likes. I wonder why.
@NaaHva You are incorrect. I need to set the record straight on this, one of my favorite McCartney compositions. Paul wrote this for 'A Hard Day's Night'; it was intended to be on the soundtrack for the band's first film. It was one of FIVE songs written by McCartney that Lennon REFUSED to include on the soundtrack. In the end, Lennon suggested that Paul pass it along to Cilla Black, whom John Lennon just adored. Paul complied, cutting this demo and giving it to Cilla so she could repeatedly listen to the song to learn how to sing it and memorize the lyrics. Many years later, this demo was discovered by her relatives after Cilla Black's death in 2015. They held onto it until their decision to sell it at an auction for Beatles memorabilia. Sadly, the person who bought the demo has refused to release more than a snippet of the recording, due to disputes over copyright. HOWEVER, a gentleman (a HERO in my book) utilizing A.I. wizardry managed to recreate the ENTIRE DEMO. I cannot say for how long it's gonna be available here on RUclips until it gets yanked off, so here it is, be sure to save it: ruclips.net/video/uaAs41Fj5Is/видео.html
Ah, that would be a dream come true.
@almostbeatlessongs No need to dream about it, here it is: ruclips.net/video/uaAs41Fj5Is/видео.html a gentleman (a HERO in my book) utilizing A.I. wizardry managed to recreate the ENTIRE DEMO. He sung it nicely, and you see what a good song it is. She seems a very mediocre talent, in her general singing and personality.
Completely brilliant
Is it Billy singing?
That voice was popular, got jobs, for decades? Different strokes.
Just need a Beatles AI version of this and we are set

Ethel merman the screamer.
So what's YOUR major skill and contribution to the world of entertainment El Fisho ? Sweet FA I'll bet !
This is nicely done. Great mix. Too bad we don't have the full acetate recording.
Very young here. ❤
Ethel Merman terrific as usual. This time different to what I have usually watched her doing. Beautiful here too.
There’s only one Beer Left
Excellent mashup! Thank you!
Please try and find the full version of the acetate and make a video on it like you did with “woman” written by “Bernard Webb” Paul McCartney
Oh, that's just Lieutenant Hurwitz. He thinks he's Ethel Merman. 🤔
Wow, Bing was gorgeous then
Ethel's friend and colleague Carol Channing described Ethel this way: unparalleled as a live performer, but her gifts didn't come through on film, "like sunshine through a glass window, no warmth, no vitamins." That was from her book... of course, I don't have it verbatim.
MF DOOM sampled this at 1:00
Really great! But today's music is better... :)
Ethel as Reno Sweeny. Perfect
Isn't that fabulous Ida Lupino sitting all alone at the watching Lupino belt out a Cole Porter?
Such a gal! Here's our own tribute to Ethel!: ruclips.net/video/mepmELJvUTs/видео.html
This song is the bridge between my love for hip-hop (MF DOOM interpolated this on One Beer) and my love for 20’s-50’s jazz
I caught the Cortex sample on that song, but I had NO idea Doom also interpolated Ethel. That's absolutely awesome!
It's Paul McCartney's original acetate demo, but not with the orchestration. When you hear the orchestration at the beginning it's pretty clean, then when you hear McCartney's vocals begin you will hear the scratchiness from the record.
One beer please
Classic song, classic performance by the truly classic Ethel Merman
Cole Porter composed so many great tunes - happy birthday to him today!
A great Hoosier musician.
