I can understand how this haunting master piece didnt receive the Oscar . Simply an Oscar would not have done it justice ! Neil Young is a long time favourite of this old guy ! He is an absolute genius with words and music !

I do not have AIDS. But what I do have is a sadness in my heart for those that are hurting. Neil Young must have been in a hard place when he wrote this. So sad. I defy anyone to watch Philadelphia and not weep like the weight of the world is in your heart. Love this. Neil.

There's an indy artist in Connecticut that just started doing a Neil Young solo tribute show and it's absolutely amazing how much he sounds like Neil, even on his own original music. I've never heard anyone whose voice is this close to Neil's. He just posted a video of a full performance of the show (he calls it "The Loner: The Music of Neil Young") he did at a small club in Bridgeport, CT. Neil's performance is like a floodgate of emotions being opened....tears flow.

How this song never won the Academy award is beyond me. By a musician mostly known for his guitar and writing. Not the piano. Streets of Philadelphia by Springsteen is great. But the emotions emitted by this song are not even close to the Boss' version.

I just came here to remember my passed away relatives and cry a lot. This song is pure gold for emotions.

If, as Sir Elton John once said, sad songs say so much, then Neil may have written the one and only song that tells you everything you'll ever need to know. Bravo, sir. Whether it's you or Tori Amos singing it, it gets me every time, and I hope I'll get the chance to pay homage by singing it myself someday.
