DIGITAL NEGATIVE - SUPERNATURAL SHORT FILM
Protip @ 0:32 - remove the middle brad. Two brads, one on top and bottom, is industry standard. Seems silly but it helps the screenplay lay flat and stay open. You know… if you’re not sending a PDF.
Haha I appreciate it thank you!
@@jackbynum My pleasure. I should have lead by saying this is a great resource! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing your feature come to life.
Awesome breakdown. So excited to see you start the feature! Right of passage for all directors.
Thanks buddy! Same to you, really enjoying seeing your journey on 16mm.
@@jackbynum maybe a feature on 16 will be my first go? 🤷♂️
Certainly gets the blood pumping lol
hey bro, I am working on a screenplay, would you like reading it
You looking for feedback or where are you at with it?
Gee, I still don't get it 😭
Good stuff Jack! We all tend to just call ourselves "filmmakers" and nobody talks about the different types of film/video production and the different approach needed for each one, so this is much needed.
@@joelining thanks man! Yeah I felt the same way
LOL "lick that bell"
Someone else: "You want to charge reasonable rates..." Jack: "Ya boy got rent."
Ya boi got rent is the realest advice ever
What would be your proudest project from each three sections you talked about, and do you plan to make a video about how to use references in projects?
@@CitizenHenry-tc1vn yes, reference video is coming in the near future and I think short films it would be Find Your Bunch because that was my first real short with a budget, doc is definitely Adventure of a Lifetime and commercial is I did a commercial for a company Port City Amplification
Nice explanations jack, best of luck on your film!
👏👏♥♥
awesome video!
Have you ever worked on a project by yourself, and if so, how did this difficulty challenged you? Sometimes people are booked on their plans and the solo creator only has enough resources and money their execute their creation and not so much on the talent. Any advice?
@@CitizenHenry-tc1vn great question, yes I shot a short film by myself and honestly, it was all about keeping it simple and leaving the camera put. Choose the frame and then focus on the actors and what they’re doing. Don’t try and move the camera too much in those types of situations
Also, fire video as usual.
I have that same shirt.
Great video ! Great insight and value here ! Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.
@@neilfullframe thanks dude!
Great video man, subscribed. Look forward to seeing more of this film come together 👏
Also, set up lookin' so clean bro
Thanks bro, totally stole it from Mike lol
fire vid.
Hey, good luck getting your film into production, and thanks for making this video, as I found it helpful for script breakdown. If you need an editor or any other job role, please let me know and we can talk about it.
@@CitizenHenry-tc1vn appreciate it!
Look forward to your film
No they both want the same thing. Control over his life.
Could be, I think barb has seen so many of these type of hair-brained schemes fail that she’s just lost the optimism
@@jackbynumthe main hero and the main opponent (of basically every scene) should want the same thing ultimately, or else your structure is broken. It usually has to do with control or power. And the story will also ultimately have to do with slavery and freedom, either out of it or into it or out of it and then back into it, etc. Your longline should be: “Hero with XYZ issue battles opponent over desire and has self-revelation about XYZ issue due to said battle” This is why sports movies are so easy to write.
@@DFMoray Protagonist and antagonist definitely do not have to want the same thing lmao. This one of the most bonkers theories on writing I've read. Where in the world did you learn this
Amazing film! So powerful with no words! This is art!
Is this an industry standard? I used MM Scheduler. This looks like a hybrid between a script supervisors lined script and a shooting script.
@@FilmPunk it’s an amalgamation of a few different processes for sure. This is just the simplest way I’ve found to do it
Great Video. Super helpful. Have you submitted it anywhere or taken to studios. How do you get a script produced as a low level filmmaker
@@davinci3478I don’t live in LA or have any studio contacts, basically what I’ve learned is that self producing is the best way to get a story made. Crowd funding along with shareable equity is how I plan on making the film
Thank you for the tip <3 it much helpful
Nice Jack, you totally get it. I would add TEAM to the list. Not many things in life work as well as a team as a movie crew.
@@FilmPunk for sure bro. The team makes all the difference.
So insightful. Went into this thinking you would talk about gear or lighting and while I do enjoy those types of videos, I was pleasantly surprised with the points you made. Great content!
Thanks! 🙏
Awesome insight in this video 👆
Hey man, I'm colorgrading artist, I can colorgrade your film if you want. Showreel in my profile (mostly film emulation color grading)
Giga Chad content right here
Wow, almost a decent video. Then you glorify drinking, and put in a bunch of loud abrasive clips from movies. PASS. Unsubscribed.
Did he? I’m pretty sure he just said going out multiple times a week while working will beat you up. He said to wait until day off or wrap day.. but oh well you seem the type of person people don’t want subscribed to their channels, so probably a good thing. PASS on this Jamoke. Great video btw, most people glorify film and don’t get to see what actually goes on the day to day to film. Thanks for sharing.
As a professional content creator with two degrees in digital media and eight years of experience in content creation, I'd say this video is very well-done and is absolutely perfect from a production standpoint.
It was awesome having you on set!
Same to you bro!
This is the type of content Daddy needed.
Good stuff man ! Enjoyed it
Love it. Great video :)
Really cool concept Jack. I'm sure every creative can relate to this painful relationship.
Oh 100%.
Nice! ...basically the 4k was matched to the Sony?
More or less - I took them through a color space transform to cineon film log and then balanced them together after the lut was applied
really dig it, wisdom is definitely learned lessons
Loved this ❤
Loved it!! Great job Jack 👏
Ooooooooo ahhhh
Finallyyyyyy been waiting for soo long
Very Black Mirror. ❤❤❤
If I am not mistaken the part at 2:11 where you mention the camera steady - then going into a handheld look after the reveal for Knives Out was actually a happy accident. The steadicam they were using broke during the shot I believe, so they brought the camera off to a more shoulder rig/handheld feel resulting in this take that made it in the edit. So not necessarily a pre-determined director choice.
Accidents are freakin rad
good
Fantastic work!!!
Interesting stuff, hope you're doing well!
Have you seen Muppet Treasure Island? 🏝️
😂😂😂
Great work Jack! 🔥
This was awesome.
