Luckily the owner of this 110 had a fire extinguisher and thought to use it when the truck caught on fire due to some pretty nasty wiring. Every wire in the truck has been replaced and we wrapped up the job by applying Waxoyl to the frame to protect it from rust. Another 110 recovery act completed!

Four-Minute Frame Swap

I love your story. Thank you for sharing.I have my third Landrover Discovery 2. I rescued it and restored it to something good and in the process of the last four years it has taken to do so, I can honestly say it rescued me! The week I bought it I had the worst news a parent could have, that my eldest son had died out in Australia. I went to his funeral and my world fell apart. After a month or so I knew I had to get up and carry on somehow. I looked at the old Discovery( my son Loved the previous two Discoveries and was looking forward when I bought this one to see my new ride when he planned to return to UK) and decided to get to work. Restoring the Landrover gave me strength and discipline, every little improvement was a milestone. Just grabbing little bits of time when I could, I got it to be really neat. Most of the really hard work was having a half chassis welded, working on rust and creating metal plates, priming and waxing the seemingly never ending rust. The servicing and repairs to body work, cleaning it up from ground up - just like I had to do with getting life back into me. I got it pretty good Then four months ago I was diagnosed with inoperable cancer, my Landrover failed its MOT on drop kinks and Watts link. More work to do on myself and the car. I got it done, the Discovery feels great! And currently having great success in healing myself naturally through exercise, Keto diet (changing fuel) adopting a resilient attitude (4x4). This one of mine has to stay on the road for my family and so do I I swear these can be so much more than cars!! All the best to everyone and their Landrover passion.
@peverill64 These cars are in my opinion one of the best looking Landrovers , the main problem is L/R did a sht job of building them as they Rust for fun . I myself fell in love with these vehicles over 30 years ago i had a 200 Tdi , then traded it in for a Discovery 1 300 tdi an 11 month old car its now 26 years old and i aint gona part with it unless a landrover Nut wants to give me the rite amount of cash and drive it away , If you can do your own maintenance work and welding keep it mine's has never let me down and has always brought me home .
Side note it blew a head gasket on the way out of the shop!🤷🏼♂️
Great restoration and video. I am based in the UK. I am looking for a Land Rover Discovery TD5 Landmark 2.5 and then want to restore it so it works better
Thank you for watching. I hope you find the perfect Discovery soon. There just nothing else like them:)
I was wondering is it possible to both restore and modify a Land Rover Discovery TD5 Landmark 2.5, so that it works reliably and the chassis can be strengthened since they are prone to rot? And how much a full restoration and modification cost. I was going to purchase one until I saw this video How bad is a Discovery TD5? Landrover Discovery 2 TD5 review by Tommy Autos ruclips.net/video/oayruruU2S0/видео.html&ab_channel=TommyAutos
I've just come across this, in Australia. What a special thing. I've had my disco 2 for 9.5 years, 426000kms. (Td5) it's been with me on so many journeys, and now as a wheelchair user, its got hand controls and we have a new beginning. Its always been my safe place, and a best friend. Adventure has no limits
Thank you so much for sharing your adventure and experience Leonie. I sure would love to see your Discovery, we don't see Td5 Discoveries on this side of pond often. Kudos to the technicians who fit it for the wheel chair user, what an amazing way to help somebody keep on going on. May your adventures be many and be blessed.
What would this cost supply and fit?
Hi Jack, Thank you for stopping by. The cost varies greatly depending on the condition of the vehicle we are working on. The frame swap by itself takes 50 hours.
Hi Shirley okay thank you for this. What do you charge per hour?
Is someone cutting onions around here?😭
great job . i wish to do that for my discovery 93
It must of been a joy to work on a project like this & for it to mean so much to this family makes it even more special. Amazing !
It really was Smitty. Every build has a story but this one ran very deep. Thank you for watching:)
Could you do a Suzuki grand vitara 05 2ltr turbo diesel one or point me in the right direction how to strip it completely down
enjoy your video very much
And the VIN??
Thank you for watching Black Phanter 666. As a repair shop we are authorized to stamp the vin on the chassis, although most of the time it is not necessary if the vin is located somewhere else on the vehicle.
@@shirleywarren6797 What happens is that I have a 1985 Chevrolet and it has a rotten and broken chassis and I wanted to know if you can give me some advice on what can be done, it would be very useful.

Thanks for sharing..good information..i have unit Td5 Discovery same model.
Gotta love them:)
This what my 95 d1 deserves. 196,000 miles and no major problems. Daily driver, vacation, and out of state trips. I plan to keep it forever. I'm just starting to do all the small things I have let pass over the years. Still a good looking SUV for over 26 years old. I laughed when I saw the engine, all greasy and oily. Looks like mine. She still runs good but sure marks her territory!
Almost to the 200,000 mile marker. It has to feel like a family member for sure! Thank you for stopping by and watching Western Wanderer.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Cola. I am glad you enjoyed:)
Could have bought a defender for the price of the rebuild...
I take you prefer the Defender Denver? They both have their own merits for sure.
@@jwhitesautomotive8245 I have a 99 Disco 2. I love it, but would sell it in a heartbeat for a Defender 110
@@denvernow7294 There is a market for your Disco, especially if the frame is solid:)
@@jwhitesautomotive8245 It spent almost all of its life in Arizona. There's not a lick of rust anywhere on it. It is leaking oil pretty badly from what I am told is the oil pressure gauge. I haven't verified if the front engine cover is cracked or the threads are stripped however. I've had the truck for a few months and I've just been adding oil. Other than that, everything runs and works great aside from needing a driver window motor. All gauges, electronics, etc work.
@@denvernow7294 The no rust is a big deal Denver:)
Hi...I have a 1993 Land Rover Discovery left to me by my stepfather. I live in North Borneo and have to do most work by myself and any advice would be most welcome.
Make sure you have the needed hardware ahead of time Laurence. It is never fun to get on a role, only to be stopped by that one little bolt you don't have. Good luck with the build!
@@jwhitesautomotive8245 Thanks for the reply...out here it is extremely hard to get anything for a discovery and if you can it will cost you a fortune. The front bumper I used sheet metal, fiberglass and had to do cut and bend for the bull bar. Would love to show you pictures

What was the wholesale cost to restore it guys? Gerry in dublin ireland.. ☘️🇮🇪😊🇺🇲
Hi Gerry. Happy new year. Note sure what the hourly rate is in Dublin, but the time to move the truck onto a new chassis is around 50 hours. Stay well!

yah woulda been better off swapping that whole SUV for a Toyota instead

@@johnnydoggs The Land Rovers are certainly tough if you don't specialize in working with them or don't have a shop that does. It is part of the reason why we exist. If I had to pick between an older Land Cruiser or a Discovery, I would have a really hard time choosing!

4 minutes? Yeah and how long to replace from start to finish actual time. Toyota quit buying cheap steel from China your better than that.

Great Job Guys and Gals !
I’m sure they put more $$$ into this car than it’s worth. Beautiful job though.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. Budget is always a factor in any build what makes sense to one person might not always make sense to another.
Do the old chassis's get scrapped or rebuilt and put in another Disco?
Hi Micheal. They are too far gone to be rebuilt.
Great work! I love seeing this kind of skill and passion be put to good use. These special cars deserve to be kept on the road, regardless of what their book values happen to be at the moment.
Thank you for watching Evocateur and for the kind comments. We really do love keeping the classics and modern classics on the road.
