I remember Vallco Mall when I was little as it gone through renovations over the years as the mall had the AMC as Vallco Fashion Park was changed to Cupertino Square since 2007 and change the name to Vallco Shopping Mall as this mall was dying due to the big mall Westfield Valley Fair is the king of the Santa Clara mall.

Things seemed more permanent back then. There were old nostalgic buildings everywhere. Now most things are demolished for new and more profitable construction.

That view @ 5:24, looking north on Wolfe Ave towards the freeway overpass. Long before the build up. Back when a few orchards still dotted the landscape. Thanks for posting. Really enjoyed the trip!

When you were traveling on 280 in San Jose and then took Highway 17 you went south on it. On the video you labeled it as north but that's wrong!

Ok I remember Valco Mall as a kid in the 80's. Game Keeper was a neat looking store but as a kid I thought it sucked and was mostly like board games for older people, no video games or anything cool. Howard's Shoes for Children, if you went to private school this is where you bought your shoes because you had to for dress code. If you bought your "regular" shoes as a kid there you were a dork because they did not carry Nikes or anything "cool". Wolfe Street Cafe had mediocre to subpar buffet, only thing neat was watching the cars drive under you as part of the "sky Bridge" over Wolfe road. I do remember it was a "smoking mall" and the ashtrays had sand in them, I got yelled at by my grandpa for trying to play with the sand in the ash tray.

Thats because they didnt have wide open borders. LA today is a bizarre mix of ethnic groups now. You know something is wrong when many Mexicans there supported Trump and the Wall.

We were there in 1981 and already most of those Big Cars from the 70's were absent from the roads of LA. Replaced by smaller Japanese and other compact cars. The biggest hire car we could get, was the Ford Granada. Which in the US was a mid sized car and not really enough boot (Trunk) space for all our luggage. We are from the UK. Enjoyed LA though, and driving thru the Mojave desert. The weather was to die for. Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon unforgettable.

2:40 The South San Francisco sign on the hillside is visible from my house. In 1980 we visited SF now and then, nice to see how it looked. 3:36 Aw, it kills me to see Candlestick Park. All gone now. Sure it was a windy old wreck, but it was OUR windy old wreck.

Wow! That was amazing to watch. Japantown looks almost the same today in 2020. Soko Hardware at 5:12 looks exactly the same! I remember San Francisco in the 80s. Seems so different yet there are parts that somewhat stood still through time (Japantown and parts of Chinatown). That PanAm airline sign in the window in Japantown was awesome. Life was chill back then. Lastly, the white pants! Reminds me of my grandpa, and was the thing to wear back in those days. (Fun Fact: The Peace Pagoda at 5:16 was designed by Yoshiro Taniguchi)
