    Going to try this out. I have four of these things and none of them work. I know two of them worked when I put them away about a decade ago. The others might be lost causes, they sat in a garage for years and were full of mud wasp nests when I got them. They’ve definitely seen better days. Anyway, thanks for the video

      Yeah those dirty systems are most likely fine. Give them a good cleaning and then try em out. Pay extra attention to those power switches. When they get dirty ( and they all do) they can cause all kinds of problems. If I can help just let me know. I’m always willing to help a fellow gamer keep those all systems alive. Colecovision was built strong and can take a bit of a beating. Don’t give up we’ll get them going.

    Huh, it's a miracle! Frogger lives again! The wires look ghetto; but hey, it works. Good job, Frank. I think cartridges last forever if well taken care of by not exposing them to moisture, smoke, gas, radiation, or any weird chemical reactions. 😄Temperature regulation is also important, just keep them in the same place where you live and dust free. lol. I agree, keeping your games clean and part of your living environment will make them last forever. Or at least as long as you take care of them. Once they’re in someone else’s hands all you can do is hope it gets treated as good as it was when it was part of your collection. I have games in the collection that I’ve had since day one of gaming and are still in awesome condition. When I let my best friend (at the time) borrow my copy of Chrono Trigger, he made my copy look like the above described scenario. Great video, bro, mind-blowing mess indeed. It's a good thing you got a good sense of humor. I kept thinking to myself that I chose the right man for this job. You pay so much attention to detail and have super patience like me. lol. My Colecovision still works like a charm, a mountain of thanks to you! Just so you know, the system has its own dust cover and temperature regulator right now. Just kidding about the temperature regulator, but it'll get the same kind of nice treatment like my parakeets. 😋Under your repairs and my care, it'll last for generations to come. I still can't believe the controller you sent me defied the laws of physics by not working on my console anymore but now works on yours?! It's discrimination I tell ya. But it works now with my original controller. I'll let somebody else figure out the weirdness. I'm glad you didn't give up on such a challenging project! Have you worked on the Turbografx-CD before? It reads, "More games" "Better graphics" on the box. Does that mean the System III had a better CPU, more RAM, or a combination of both? Or is it just marketing fluff? Looks nice though, thanks for sharing! Now I want all models. 😋 The only console I own a lot of models is the Sega Genesis (1, 2, and 3), just to have them. I do have more than one model of the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, but that is more spreading out the usage and gaming time so my main console doesn't break. It may be that because there are more games than since the original Intellivision launch (duh), and the fact that you can put a 2600 emulator now, and some graphics improved since, and more cartridge memory's been added since, then that would be pure marketing fluff. However, if there's an Intellivoice built-in, and more system RAM onboard (which the original lacked for the 2600 emulator) then they may have a point with "better" whatever. But, I don't know the System III differences other than cosmetic.

The Street Fighter II machine was brand new, yet when I powered it up for the first time, nothing came up on the screen. I was so disappointed. So I was guessing it was a power issue. The Star wars pinball machine is great and easy to mod and add all their games to. But yeah I really don’t like the way they do their power supplies. If so the first thing I would do is change out the same bug capacitor that I did. That one seems to run on the main power rail. If when you turn it on and it takes a long time that tells me that the unit is working it’s just having issues powering on. Capacitors hold charge and sometimes need a second to power up. If yours is taking longer than you think it should to power up I would start by replacing capacitors. I hope this helps

I don’t know how well it can be utilized in a live environment. I can say that it sounded great at most volumes and seemed like it could handle a smaller venue. Like a small club or bar. Wish I had more info for you but I hope this helps

    No RGB MOD? Ivory Tower Collections dose RGB Mods on Coleco Vision and Intellivision. I had them do a RGB Mod on my Intellivision 2 and the video image is awesome, razor sharp with strong, vibrant, rich color.

      Nope lol. Nothing against an RGB mod but I was just trying to keep it simple. I don’t have an upscaler and only one tv with RGB inputs. It’s easy to pick up and go with a simple AV mod. I can bring it to a friends house and not have to make sure they have a compatible setup. I will look into Ivory Tower thanks for the suggestion. Game on Frank

    hello, I need help! i am French. please share my problem. thanks. There is a false contact at the console's power socket. Moving the socket causes display problems. (the plug is plugged into a 4 centimeter box which contains 4 pins on the exterior side, and 4 soldered wires on the interior side. I left everything soaked in isopropyl alcohol but the false contact remains) the solders have the looks good, but we can't see inside the tiny connection box. How do I know if the problem comes from inside this box where the false contact is located, or if the problem is possibly located in a Ram? (because Smurf works (apart from 4 or 5 small foreign pixels) whereas a game like Buck Rogers which uses much more resources has graphic problems)

    • @meetmeinthegameroom8686
      @meetmeinthegameroom8686 10 месяцев назад

      Wow sounds like a few different issues going on. First let’s check the power supply. Hold the end of the cord so your looking at the 4 holes where the pin go. Each should be numbered Utica not from left to right they go ground, +12v, -5v, +5v. Using a voltage meter check to see if your getting all three voltages. A power supply on a Colecovision going bad is a common problem. Especially as these systems get older. You can probably find a good one on eBay. Or there is a USB-C adapter that totally replaces the original one. If your getting all three voltages maybe it’s a problem right there at the connection. The holes where the pins go an get oval shaped and make bad connections. I’m not sure if you can get just the end of the cord but maybe. I can help look around if you need to find one. Console5.com and mouser.com are my go to places for parts. Check the power and get back to me. We’ll take it one problem at a time but I’m sure we’ll be able to get it fixed. Good luck testing and thanks for asking. I’ll do what I can to help you out

    I pulled my old CV out of the basement a few years ago and fired it up. It worked, but the picture was pretty lousy (noisy, occasional loss of color, etc.). I cleaned up the guts, and I seem to recall modifying some stuff in the RF box going by some instructions I found online. Whatever I did, it seemed to do the trick. I want to say the mod involved taking the RF modulation out of the circuit and running the video signal direct to the AV input…might have included the addition of a few discrete components as well. At any rate it did seem to do the trick simce there weren’t any issues after that. You mentioned performing a 5 volt mod…what did that entail and why might it be recommended? Great video, and thanks for keeping these things alive. The CV is the most underrated of the consoles of that era, in my opinion.

    • @meetmeinthegameroom8686
      @meetmeinthegameroom8686 10 месяцев назад

      Very underrated console I agree. Getting the rare opportunity to actually play a Colecovision back in the day was getting a chance to play a NeoGeo. It was completely awesome but not many people had them. I didn’t get one until much later in life but have always appreciated it. As far as the 5v mod goes check a website called console5. They sell tons of repair and mod parts and have some great instructions. The Colecovision power supply is a pain in the ass. It runs 3 voltages all at the same time. A +12v line. A +5v line. And a -5v line. A lot of Colecovision problems boil down to bad ram. The original ram uses the +5v. The new replacement ram does away with the need for that power line and by removing a couple old style capacitors and running a couple jumpers it’s done. The hardest part of the job is getting all the old ram out without ripping the old circuit board apart. I’ve done this mod a bunch of times and still usually pull up a trace somewhere lol. I hope this was helpful and thank you for watching and commenting. Keep them old systems alive! Game on

    THANKS MY FRIEND. You saved my colecovision. I tried everything before. Opening system-contact cleaning of pcb etc etc and still the graphic glitches appearing when I played. As I did not have the slim thing you have, I took a circular / safe / slim / metal kitchen knife (I gently checked if it goes inside the slot). So I put some Kleenex paper around the knife, sprayed some contact cleaner, and then I put the whole thing gently inside the cart slot. Up and down, gently. My Kleenex was stuck inside, I was scared !!, I took it with fingers and gently, slowly made it out with left-right moves, and it worked. I think the fact I pushed the Kleenex and knife right down inside the slot helped to fix the problem, making the dirt going down the pins. And abracadabra like magic now the games work perfectly. (I cleaned the game contacts with ear tips and contact cleaner too). I thank you so much. Cause I did not know the problem came from, ram?, mother board?, solder broken?, dirt somewhere?, graphic board?, scart out?, power button? ... I hope now it is fixed for good. I still wait for alcool isopropylique, and contact cleaner again, and brushes, that I just bought, but it seems you guided me right to the right place to fix. (I sprayed lot of contact cleaner inside the cartridge slot, but it was not enough) Put a slim thing inside to clean it was the solution. Sorry for my english. Thanks from France.

So happy we could help save another broken Colecovision. One thing I have to tell you and it’s kind of important. I’ve been meaning to make another video revising this cartridge slot cleaning. Shortly after I finished this video I used this method to clean an NES. It didn’t go to well and I pulled a few of the pin backwards right out of the front of the slot. My new method is the same thing except use some super glue and glue your tightly pulled cloth to the hard thin card you use. Ok so maybe you don’t want to glue a cloth to your kitchen knife lol. So happy we could help you in France! Game on from America

    Just watched the video and really enjoyed it. I'm hoping you may be able to offer me some advice. I just lucked in to a ColecoVision locally. It's in awesome condition and everything works perfectly except for one thing. There is no audio. I watched another RUclipsr saying that issue could sometimes be fixed by adjusting the audio pot in the rf section. Have you encountered this issue and if so, how likely do you think it is to take care of the issue. At this point, there is no static or sound of any type. Thanks!

    • @meetmeinthegameroom8686
      @meetmeinthegameroom8686 11 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching first off. Second, great comment and question. So of course this problem could be a hundred different things. Gotta start a common issues and go with the power switch first. It’s the easiest thing to do and even if everything seems to work this could still be the problem. Both 5 volts and 12 volts run through the switch and one or the other being weak could be the problem. I have multiple videos on Colecovision problems and fixes. Try the switch first and if that doesn’t help give an extra clean to the cartridge slot. I know it sounds dumb but just do it and get it out of the way. If still nothing then watch my video on the ultimate Colecovision and pay attention to the part where I do the AV mod. You can easily run a wire from the pin where I wire in the sound jacks and the other side to ground. Do this with an AV wire so you can plug it into your tv and check for sound. You’ll need a 10 ohm capacitor to run in line as well but you will see all this on my video. From there you’ll have to dig deeper and possibly replace the ram. Not a horrible job but if you have to do this the website console5.com has the parts and very nice instructions on the job. I will still do my best to help you get your system up and running so please keep in touch and let me know how things are going. Hopefully one of my easier fixes will take care of the problem. Colecovision is an awesome system and it’s sweet you want to get yours fixed. No worries we’ll get it going. Frank
