Clifford Brown solo trumpet transcription - Take the A Train (Study in Brown - 1955)
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.Год назад
Billy Strayhorn's 'Take the ''A'' Train', recorded by Clifford Brown on February 23-25, 1955 in New York City. Note: for some reason Clifford and the whole band skip a bar and jump to the D7b5 chord earlier. Coincidence? Or arranged? It seems everyone just went along with Clifford’s choice of notes right away. So the first A is 7 bars instead of 8. The rest of the solo is all regular. I include...

Gorgeous solo and amazing transcription! Thanks for sharing it! 🔥
She has that jazz voice
MMMMMMMM
Dude, this is what I was looking for, I didn't think I would find the transcription of this solo, thank you so much.
Thank you!! What a genius.
Fav CB number. This one has it all 😂
I have a few scat videos at bonsai anonymous
I was looking for this tune in fakebooks but couldn't find until i stumbled across your transcription. You wouldn't have the chords written somewhere?
You can derive the chords from a couple of Chet Baker solo transcription books. Todd Kelly's Chet Baker: 21 Selected Solos, 1952-1958 has Tynan Time and Lucius Lu; Another transcription book in two volumes has chords for Minor Yours and For Minors Only. Obviously, you'll have to lower them a M2 for piano and bass.
So many quotes! Heres what i caught: 0:25 first quote I forget the piece 0:42 in walked bud 0:46 Quoting ella's tisket a tasket solo 0:52 Donna Lee? 1:10 to 1:25 trumpet licks, a la sweets edison 1:30 Perdido Reply with anything I missed!
Is this takedown available in book or sheet music form? Anything else from Picture of Heath, Playboys, or The Route?
There's a fake book, Jazz Ltd that has several tunes from Picture of Heath...C.T.A., Resonant Emotions, For Miles and Miles , and POH. The old real book vol 2 has CTA and For minors Only. Hope that helps. Aebersold has a jimmy heath book that contains CTA also.
@@robinwf1 Thanks, very helpful!
👏
Is that a slick little donna lee quote over the Bb7-Eb7 there at :57?
I think its just common bebop language But i can hear what you mean
@silver1788 she does like 4 other quotes. It's probably a Donna Lee quote. I hear a Perdido quote around 1:20
@@halcyonacoustic7366fair enough
This solo is one of the greatest pieces of improvised musical ART of all time. God Bless You Louis Armstrong.

This is awesome thank you
There's no sound in this video!?
So 🔥
thank you for doing the work. what a great solo
And Papa Joe Jones on drums to boot!
Dude ... I did this transcription last year... Every time I pull it out I go back to that section and make sure I got it right. Count with my fingers and all that to be absolutely certain. Glad someone else found the same thing because I still find it hard to believe🤣. The way they play those seven bars really feels like 8.

Hello Ms Ella II!
Does she have perfect pitch?
You don't need it for what she is doing. That's relative pitch.
Thanks for the transcription! pretty good!
Sounds like Patti Austin.
I played trombone in HS and college, when I’d go on some solo passage I literally never knew what the progression or key was, just played random notes and rhythms until I settled on a note to sustain for a few beats. If that note sounded good I just released, if it sounded bad I just growled it then popped up a half step and acted like I planned the whole thing. I was truly awful but hey that’s Jazz
Wynton’s lost his chops.
