Wow just wow, us mediterranean boys cannot complain anymore about our winter months, great vlog
2 hours by this temperature and furthermore you keep in mind your engineer approach. Respect. You've got a new member on your channel.
How did you make that camera mount?
I have attached the stabilizer foot of a caravan travel trailer to a cross-country ski pole. A bolt with a standard camera thread has been embedded and glued into the tip of the pole. Holes have been drilled into the stabilizer foot so that it can be mounted to the inserts of foot straps. This is probably around the fifth version. The previous ones have broken or otherwise failed. It's important to be cautious to prevent the camera from sinking to the bottom if it breaks.
wow sounds complicated 😅. Would be awesome to have a video that’s shows how you made it. This camera angle is awesome!
@@wongsrila The main challenge is finding a mount that can be attached both to the board's inserts and has a round hole for securing the pole. Someone with access to a large 3D printer might be able to create the perfect mount. The downside of this system is that it affects the board's surfability. The pole adds more rotational inertia, making an 80L board feel more like a 120L one. That's why I rarely take the camera along.
@ how long do you extend the pole?
@@wongsrila I have two different ones: approximately 90 cm and 130 cm. This was filmed with the shorter one. Riding waves with the longer one is more difficult, and it wobbles quite a bit.
Thanks for a great video! I hope to see more of Gong V3 foils in the future! -Perhaps the V3 Veloce H? 🤔
Thank You. Next in testing will likely be something fast, such as the V3 Ypra Slalom or the new thinner system Ypra Race. But that might still take a while.
🥶
How can u go in water with such temperature, i dont even go outside.
Hi! Nice video! What app are you using for tracking your data?
Thank You! I carry my iPhone with me on the water and use the Waterspeed app to track speed and distance. The video was primarily filmed with an Insta360 X3 camera, and the speed overlay shown was captured using the Insta360 GPS Action Remote accessory. The speed can be added to the video using Insta's own editing software. It's not the most convenient solution, especially since the remote unit easily loses connection with the camera if the camera stays underwater.
I had to stay in my room a bit longer this morning because it was bit chilly at 23 degree C in Na Jomtien, Thailand..😂😂😂😂
Here, we still have to wait 6-7 months for those temperatures 🤷😀
That looked like a good day. Balanced and smooth my friend.
So strong rider ❄️❄️💪🤙
Awesome Video, love it. Chilled music and cuts, completely underrated Channel! Keep on this great work👏🏼🤙🏼

Thank you. Numbers matter 🙂👍
@@wingsurffi How much only the mast weigh?
This V3 HM85 14mm is 2.16 kg
Nice work! I did not realize my winter neoprene gear weighs that much! 40kmu is not bad at all by the way. I am still at 35kmu with a 1200cm2 Gong YpraS XL :-) and 87kgs without gear.
hi did you ride on saltwater or sweet water? Makes a great difference for low end, especially in small foils
Fresh water = lake Näsijärvi.
@@veskupaananen Rahola spot is actually in lake Pyhäjärvi but sweet water anyway :-)
@@JockeF10 Sorry! My bad. Too many lakes in Finland. Actually +150.000 😂
Actually, both sweet lakes are correct. The first clip was from Lake Näsijärvi, and the second one was from Lake Pyhäjärvi 😀
Saltwater has a specific gravity of only 2.5% more than sweet water so what do you mean?
Howdy from Texas! Excellent documentation and videography! You're quite brave to go out in those freezing conditions. I suppose it's no big deal for you?
Thank you! The weather here is what it is. With modern wetsuits and mittens, there’s no need to freeze. The white snow also prevents the equipment from getting scratched, and no sand gets carried into the car 🙃
You`re doing well! But there`s a reason why even pros in racing use stabilizers ( ok small ones ): You might have less drag without stab but this rodeo-style slows you more down than a small stab.
Can I ask what resolution and fps settings you're using here for the slo mo footage?
just wow that camera perspektiv is top noch took me long to figure out where it was mounted. Suoer smooth to watch
Love the crazy Suomi folks! Cool demo and thanks for sharing your experience! Which mast did you ride?
Thank You! Gong Carbon Mast HM 92 cm
@@wingsurffi good luck with your foil experiments 🤙
Nice 😮 You guys are motivated! May I know which mount you use for your camera on the deck of the board? Thanks
Look in this thread for the question previously made by @Fjordjumper.
This strange. It look not that fast for it’s size, i mean the higest speed is good but not exeptionnal, maybe need a smaller stab, and thinner mast. Also the overall speed seams pretty low like cruising at 25/26. I don’t know if the gong foil are good for racing.
You are my heroes 🤩 I will never complain again, when it's cold on the water in Germany 😂You guys are real watermen! Keep safe and warm and best greetings, Max 🙋♂
Haha, I stumbled upon your video looking for inspiration for the Dutch upcoming winter... But we have it easy compared to you guys! Keep it up!
nice riding! What was the foot strap mount you were using on your board? It was a great angle for riding with the 360!
Look in this thread for the question previously made by @Fjordjumper.
I usually don’t like winter but this movie is beautiful 👍🏄🏼♂️
hello! I notice that your stance is kind of far forward, back foot is at the blue "takoon" line. It is really surprising for me. Why does it happen? Is it because your foil is really far forward? Or you have some enormous speed?
On the Takoon Glide V1 board, the foil track is not quite at the back. In this video, the foil is in the middle of the track, and with Gong's foil at least, a good position to stand is right where I am standing. If I were to use foot straps, they would likely be too far back. I don't know what the situation would be if I were using Takoon's foil.
@@wingsurffi that's very interesting! Do you use the same foot position when you pump the board before the flight on the foil? Or you pump with one foot position and then move it to another?
@@maksymskoryk3784 Foil in the neutral center position, I have to slightly move my feet forward in the air. Nowadays, I keep the foil perhaps 5-10 cm further back, and there is no need to move feet in the air. However, my feet are still not at the foot strap locations.
@@wingsurffi that's something new to me. In my beginner board I have to move my feet back once I'm on foil which I don't really like. I want to be in the same position both when pumping and on foil (my foil is in the most forward position). And now I hear that you have the opposite problem. That's really surprising to me!
Awesome, thanks for sharing, still working on the switch and I think this will help heaps
Awesome, thanks for sharing, still working on the switch and I think this will help heaps
And the question of all winter surfing: What kind of gloves do you use?
Exactly. This is the fundamental question in winter wingsurfing and windsurfing. Personally, I've sold all my windsurfing equipment because the season in Finland ends very early due to the cold. Open palm mittens do not work near freezing temperatures. The pull of the wing is so much smaller that you can easily surf for hours with closed mittens. But the answer to your question is that we haven't found good ones yet. So far, there are only bad ones and slightly worse ones, which is why they have been excluded from above equipment descriptions so that people don't buy them unnecessarily. In most gloves and mittens, the palm area is too slippery, especially with nylon-handled wings. On the other hand, those that have been very grippy haven't lasted more than a couple of days - the seams have torn open. We are still searching and hoping that some manufacturer will make proper ones. Last winter, I used 5mm mittens to which I added neoprene glue on the palm side. Gloves are too cold, pre curved mittens where all four fingers are together are best. Now I had new mittens in the test. I might return to them if they last. In my wings, I only have soft handles; in wings with hard handles, there may be a difference in which type of surface on the mitten works best.
Great video & greetings from Estonia. This year I've been out in 1 degrees temps..so far my NP armour skin 5 mm three compartment mitten works well (thumb, index and 3 fingers together) I think the big difference is made by me having a harness line attached to the hard handles. I really try to consciously relax my hands and even can let 1 arm hang (front) Another thing I think maybe is useful (...maybe it's in between the ears) is not wearing the gloves immediately, but to let hands get cold a bit and put the gloves on before going into the water. How is the wing holding up in the snow and ice? I've found that my hand wing acts a bit strange and looses power when the ice grows on it! And it requires hitting the canopy a bit to break the ice 😂
@@avinashbikha A frozen Takoon wing feels mostly a bit heavier if ice has accumulated, and maybe it pulls a bit worse. No other problems yet. "Not wearing the gloves immediately, but to let hands get cold a bit and put the gloves on before going into the water" interesting this is something to think about 🤔. Using a harness makes a big difference👍, allowing me to surf for several hours. Without the harness, I'd likely struggle to keep going.
Beautiful Suomi and crazy Finns! Cool stuff and thanks for the gear specs.
You guys are hardcore!!! 🤜💥
i love your videos!

An i think my homespot is cold :-D

Winter winging videos are my fave. Way to go! Can I ask what mount that is holding the camera rod?
I have had several different setups for attaching the selfie stick to the board, either to the rear leg straps or their screw inserts. This latest one has lasted the longest. Here, I have attached an old fishing rod holder to the trailer jack. I haven't come across any ready-made holder that would easily attach. It's worth noting that the balance of the board changes somewhat when the selfie stick is attached. The board feels like it has about twenty extra liters. When falling, there are significant forces on the selfie stick, and I've had a few aluminum ones break as a result.
@@wingsurffi Thanks for the info. Have you found a rod material you think is best? And how long is your rod?
The cross-country ski pole made of carbon fiber has held up well, but it vibrates more than the aluminum rod. In this video, there's an approximately 80cm long aluminum rod, which originally was part of a camera light stand. The longer the rod, the more challenging it is to control the board.
@@wingsurffi Thanks so much for your input! I am intent on creating a solid system for my Insta360 cam
@@wingsurffi One more question if I may: Can you tell me how you handled connecting the Insta360 screw to the pole where the camera screws in?
Thank you for sharing your impression on this foil man ! Your level is sick I’m new on the Hypra S - M. I use a fluid H 38 stab and I’m having a lot of problems to actually feel stable and ride it properly. Do you have any tips ? Are you also using this stab ? Thank you man, keep pushing
Fluid HA 38 is quite small and unstable, especially if you don't have much experience yet. I tried the Ypra S-M with Veloce HA 40 stabilizer, but it felt too small and unstable and was challenging to ride fast in gusty winds. After that, I switched to the Fluid HA 42 stabilizer, and it was comfortably stable and easy to ride. Lately, I've been using the freestyle 41 stabilizer, which is more lively than Fluid 42 and great for wave riding. The freestyle stabilizers are slightly thicker, so even in smaller waves, they provide decent lift and stability, despite having a shorter fuselage than others. Short fuselage allows for tighter turns. If you are looking for more stable ride with Ypra S-M you should be looking for something bigger than Fluid HA 38 for stabilizer.
Thank you for your feedback. I’m going to try something bigger for the stab
Really interesting to see how a small increase or decrease of volume actually impacts the way of riding
Stab is too big.
I agree. I currently use 41cm freestyle stab with Ypra S-S 600cm2 and it works better.
I use veloce 40 and despite its size it seems to push even more than the fluid 42,I don't understand...
I tried the Veloce 40 in the past and found it too difficult to control the flight altitude. The Freestyle Stab 41 feels well-balanced, but I've only ridden it at speeds below 24 knots / 45 kmh, so I'm not sure how it behaves at higher speeds. However, the freestyle 41 feels quite slow and draggy with the Ypra S-M, so it might not reach high speeds even with the S-S (at least with my skills).
@@wingsurffi vel 40 glides a lot better, but I feel my YprasM saturated equal as fluid 42...I'm 78 kg and a little reluctant to go too undersize,it becomes annoyng to restart after a jump...
Have you noticed that Gong has introduced the intermediate size YpraS MS 700cm2. My friend, who weighs just over 80kg, is considering it, and so am I, especially after I hit the rocks with the size M while wave foiling. However, it might be better to wait for the potential new race foils next summer. I hope there's something coming which removes the need of 8 screws and a bit loose front wing connection.
Could you share a picture of your camera boom? How long is it?
Hi, boom is about 1 meter
What has happened on 0:24? Just trying to learn and get to know how to avoid this :)
Looks like the foil breached. You can see a splash of water just prior to the fall, which is the pressurized water releasing from below the foil. We've been 'boat foiling' to learn, and have lots of footage showing that. To avoid, don't breach!
When the front wing peeks out of the water, air gets sucked over the entire wing, causing the lift to disappear. More detailed video here: ruclips.net/video/d9-YV7v9-NE/видео.html
Keeping board nose down and foil in the water takes my full focus. When I think something else like changing wing grip, the wing will rise up to air. Much more flying hours are needed.
Really cool Video! You did some nice flights! The nature looks so idyllic 🌲Greetings from Germany, Max 🙋♂
Thanks!
Cool video 👍🏄🏼♂️
What Music is that? Thank you. p.s. superfast foot change!
Lazy Walk - Cheel
Greatv ideo but the rope connecting the board to the leash should be shorter so that the wide part of the leash hits the board, not the cords. Thanks for the tips.
That's true 👍. Have to fix it.
Wow, that's impressive i think. Sea Doo is coming out with an E foil next summer that I believe is a mono.
Such a great perspective. Do you have any photos of your camera rig by chance?
Nice video finally I get it 👍🏄🏼♂️
A bit off topic, but I use the same board and I am always standing like you - mid to front, with all my different front wings, even if I push the foil to the back of the rails. It almost seems impossible to use foot straps for jumps, especially the rear one. Found it interesting to see that I am not alone on the middle of the board :)
What brand foil you use?
