How To Play Tritone Substitutions
Do more with your dominant chords! Tritone substitutions have been an accepted re-harmonization tool for a LONG time. The approach is from any dominant chord in your song, you can replace that cord with its Tritone regardless of the key. The only limit is the comfort of your ear!

A Fun Way to Practice Chords and Inversions
Просмотров 1864 месяца назад
All you need is a couple chords and a funky beat to practice like this! Step one is picking at least two different chords and it doesn’t matter which two. Next step is to create a melody based off the top note of your first chord. After that, it’s all about experimenting. Try to move through inversions in the left-hand while continuing the melody in the right hand. You may start without a beat ...
Secondary Dominants With Coldplay

Don’t let concepts that feel like they’re two advanced or two foreign intimidate you. We play music because we love it! So anything that we learn, we’re going to learn to benefit what we love. Sometimes that means we take part of an idea and sometimes that means we use the idea differently than intended. That’s art! In this case, we are simply exploring the possibilities of secondary dominants!...
Elton John-“I’m Still Standing”

There’s really power in the pedal! Having what’s called a “pedal tone” in the bass really makes anything done in the right hand that much more interesting! It keeps a sense of tension happening until we resolve back to the Bbm. Then by adding rhythm to the bass pedal, e can really make an EPIC intro! 😎 #pianolesson #eltonjohn #piano #pianotutorial #musiclesson #instillstanding #music
Hand Independence with D’Angelo
Просмотров 5374 месяца назад
D’Angelo has some of the grooviest bass lines to jam! It makes for very productive practices that also sound awesome! Here we’re diving into how to develop stronger hand independence by using a bassline that has some syncopation in it While creating some sort of consistent rhythm that challenges that in the right hand. We can start by simply playing a constant rhythm in the right hand and event...
Solo Better With Enclosures!

Chromatic enclosures are such a useful technique for adding some complexity to even the simplest melody! The only thing that truly matters here is that it is rhythmic and that will probably be the brunt of the practice. Playing notes around the note that you’re aiming for is the easy part. It in a way where you land rhythmically and intentionally on your target note is where the work comes in! ...
Hozier-“Too Sweet” (Using Dominants For Movement)
Просмотров 2434 месяца назад
Tension And release is the name of the game. And like any good game scoring is only as good as the defending. It’s the classic cat and mouse, but with feelings. Sure, you could write a happy story with no conflict, but it would have a hard time captivating an audience. So, here we’re increasing the duration of the climax or the tension by adding a few more of those dominant chords along the way...

👾
Thx for this, I learned it in 10 mins :)
In what key is it played in,I mean the original key?
Is there a full video on this?
❤ brutal bro.
Make it longer
Who is it? What's his day?
Shouldn't the second chord be notated as E double flat 7 since it's the flat 2 of the key?
Yes, it is spelled D7 by enharmony to read and play the chord with more ease :)
Why would you go to the extent of adding a double flat? It's a borrowed passing chord
❤❤❤❤
Instead of gb over A flat it’s just a D half diminished
Can you do the pre chorus?
I believe you got one or two wrong
Which ones 🤔
@@we.artplay I definitely hear the C in the bass over that Aflat 9.
@@we.artplay you’ll have to forgive me. It was just a quick thought that I had and I am away from my piano.

Wasn't Herbie Hancock playing the Keyboard?
kinda reminds me of the chorus of Mac Ayres' "Lonely" the last part of the chorus he played 3 major chords. he also did a common neo soul prog on his other song "Show Me" where he instead playing the vi chord (like in this vid) he played the VI chord. (major 6 instead of minor 6) which is satisfying to the ears
Mac Ayers is definitely textbook jazz neosoul and I love him so much for it 😭❤️🙏🏾
Thanks very smooth indeed!
Wow
Love hearing it like this
Thanks Satan 😈
What happens at the G - C bit at the end?
Waah wah wee woo🚨🤯
