Detroit Punks Episode 1: John Brannon
Nov 1st 2024 saw in vegas for the 3rd time .john brannons hatred and intensity is unparalleled. GOD BLESS THE NEGATIVE APPROACH
Best definition goes for what Alex Chillton said: "What The Cramps did for the rockabilly, you guys are doing for r'n'b"
The LindaBlair EP provided a lifechanging POV & had my silly ass singing along trying to emulate the vocals...Scored a beat up copy from an older cat who had sang for NardCore band AFU AlwaysFuckedUp (also got 1st editions of the first EPs in awful but playable condition of Necros, Meatmen, MinorT Ag.Front, YDi, UnitedMut, GangGreen & theFreeze all for only 2o bucks the price of his next fix...Same thing happened years later when a friendly dopefiend showed up with a small box of EPs ths time in mint condition for 70 bucks LoveBuzz was in the lot & we hadn't a clue that Nirvana would break & that the rather lame shitty Hippie looking ep would becum a big deal- Moral of the story BroDown with the old creepy Junkies & MethHeads in your scene- ruclips.net/video/Rq87-n6lLFI/видео.htmlsi=uck8hc3MJg5sCS-S
Very enjoyable video .Thanks! All three protagonists come across as likeable and good people...and I think that Mick Collins ties with Jon Spencer as the Number One Rock n' Roll talent of the last 35 years...his work with The Dirtbombs is phenomenal!
Having had my mind blown by the Laughing Hyenas and Easy Action, I finally saw NA last Sunday. Absolutely blinding.
Seeing them tonight on a boat in Bristol(UK) Harbour......gonna be frikkin ace. Never, ever thought I'd get to see them.
So great
Outstanding! Can anyone tell me the name of this song?
That French guy probably ruined it (a tiny little bit) for the Gories in Europe because of that weird 'housey' album cover design. House Rockin had a great cover(!) these were the album covers we were looking for when you wanted to buy an album by a band you didn't know yet. The Frenchman didn't have a clue..!
One rad dude. I met him at a skatepark event near detroit they played at maybe 6 years ago. Me and him were the only 2 people ripping cigs and beers in the beer tent mid-day and I walked over started talking to him, not knowing full who he was. We chatted just as 2 strangers for a few minutes and he mentioned he was playing and I was like damn you are the fuckin singer for NA arent you. We still just talked about punk for like a good 20 minutes just a super humble down to earth dude. Then they fucking slayed a 25 minute set and the kids did not know what the fuck was going on. we had a circle pit going around dudes skating doing kickflips in the middle and shit - it was a tight day.
There's brutal and then there's John Brannon
🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍
Thanks Mary. Very cool story and reflecting on Rob's life.
Finally! I get to see it! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I now reside in Midwest east end of.........
This band is PUNK.
Just saw NA last Saturday. Still fucking shit up in 2024. And I’m better for having witnessed it.
maribel restrepo aka mary ramirez, one of my absolute fave guitarists 💗 this is such a gem
This is awesome they are awesome
Wot a cool doccie - love NA!
Grandpa Brannon is a living legend... Kept it real and he's in his sixties. He'll eventually have a heart attack or stroke on stage, but no one will ever be able to say that he was a "poseur" or not "keeping it real" ...All his contemporaries have families ,grown kids and are retiring in the suburbs while he's out eating crappy road food, playing crazy places like Detroit, traveling in a van, going to bed late, making no money, and still screaming for an hour onstage over and over! LEGEND!!!
And that toilet? 😮😳🤮
Is that it? I need more
Met him recently! Super kool guy! Total punk legend!!
When is 50 cent going to take ownership of his son Joey Ward: u write life is not a dress rehearsal I gotta get way u want!!!
Just out of curiosity Y doesn't Joey know his Guardians new cell phone # and who the hell is this white lady named Joan that keep picking up Judy Wards cell phone y don't she quit blocking The " mother daughter conversations between Carl Bailey's neices ?
All cool cats. Detroit is the best
Wow, they played 'Vera' in Groningen Holland, so close to my home.. Come back!!!
Check it out
i’m in my early 30s and still a punk, hardcore kid, metalhead, garage/surf rock riot grrrl at heart. my school only had like 3 punks, a handful of indie and emo kids. we were lucky enough to grow up in the midst of the philly underground scene and the music changed my life. i didn’t feel like a weirdo or reject anymore. music wax everything to me and still is. i love this documentary. y’all look so young! it’s hard to believe you’re closer to my parents age. that was another gift art and the underground music scene gave me as an impressionable young kid. there are no rules for life. we didn’t have to buy into the lie of the american dream or lose our individuality.
First rock show I ever saw was Mitch Ryder. He's telling it for real.
Tickets were $5.
❤
Although pretty poor sound and picture quality this is probably right up there amongst the very best live Clash footage ever recorded. It seems to just capture the vibe of the live shows and is from their very best era 1980 which I was lucky enough to witness.
i really think he is from another planet
I was there 79-86. Greystone hall, St Andrews, 404 Willis, city club, Harpo's, irocs, etc etc. Working class kids. John fucking Brannon was a perfect role model
Coreys in the doll rods damn I love this man
Why did you start posting videos bro what the hell this channel is absolutely amazing
Fucking absolute legend
What's the first song?
Church choir? "Jesus tries to tell me what he thinks is right for me"..... Bahahahaha
I'm not used to seeing John with hair
I saw NA open for Minor Threat around 1982 at Western Michigan U for $3.
I’ve been a fan of Johns for ages at this point, and seeing the Laughing Hyenas stuff on here brings me back because of the time one of our bands played with them in Montreal in 88 or 89 at Foufounes Electriques. I remember being stoked that we were going to get to play with Johns new band (we were big NA fans). I only wish we would have gotten to hang out with them a bit, but the show was great fun. Our band was called Satans Landlord, and we were maybe a bit of a strange opener for them, as we were closer to The Meatmen than we were to LH.
Love it!
It BOGGLES my mind that we don't have an officially released live show on video for this band. Or even an official audio release of an entire live show with Topper. Do you have this entire show on camera?
This was the best of about 6 shows before they closed this place and tore it down. Souxie and the Banshees, Iggy, Ramones. Some great times in my past.
I wasn’t even born in 1982 but goddamn the stories I’ve heard from the short time that was alive, I was truly born too late not that I still haven’t seen a lifetime of great music that I’m grateful for though
Fucking A ...N/A!!!🍻
Saw Negative Approach play just this summer they were the headlining band, fucking intense.
Yes we were there and have the crappy tattoos to prove it. Fkn Graystone, Snap! Erika Robinson, you out there somewhere???? Where my skins at? Shit we 60 now hahaha P.s the black dude. Sorry Don't remember your name, you had spike Mohawk we chilling in Ferndale?
