Rio Ñireguao - Casting in 80km Wind
Просмотров 605 месяцев назад
The Rio Ñireguao is an intimate stream with a depth that averages below your knees. It also has large brown trout, in numbers, that love to eat a well-presented hopper pattern! On this day, the challenge (especially for righties) was throwing a decent cast in the 80km wind. However, if you can get it done, you’re rewarded by 20”-plus behemoth!

Fly in Trip to Esnagami Lodge 2023
Просмотров 79910 месяцев назад
My buddy Stan wanted me to put this up on my channel so that it would be publicly available for all to view. He and 9 of his closest friends took a bush plane into Esnagami Lodge in northern Ontario to fish for trophy brook trout and northern pike, as well as walleye and the odd whitefish. Looks like they had a lot of fun… and fish!
I Made a Rod Bag!
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.Год назад
Normally I just buy my rod bags. They’re usually so inexpensive, it’s not worth my time to make one. However, the latest rod that I built is an uncommon size, so a proper bag was unavailable for purchase. I also came by a sewing machine when my aunt died so this project gave me an excuse to teach myself how to use it!
DIY Rod Dryer using a BBQ rotisserie kit.

This is the last video of those to support the rod building course that I’m teaching. It’s a super-beginner course so many don’t want to invest in expensive equipment. Enter the DIY Rod Dryer. This is more of a template for you to change a you want. Think of it as a recipe that you can change ingredients and preparation to suit your needs and resources.
Anchoring Tiny Guides to Skinny Blanks
Просмотров 126Год назад
This is another quick video to support the TRAA rod building course with which I’m involved. Some of the participants were having difficulty anchoring the smaller guides to the skinnier sections of the blanks in preparation for the thread wraps. Hopefully this video helps. It might help to pause and take screen shots for reference if you want to give these methods a try.
The Basic Thread Wrap 2 Ways!
Просмотров 229Год назад
I’m doing a free rod building course for the TRAA and did up a quick and dirty video of a couple of ways to both start and finish a basic thread wrap. There’s also bonus demo’s of a couple single trim wraps - one edge banding and the other inlaid. It’s pretty basic stuff but it’s what beginners need to practice before they can start trying all the other fancy crap on RUclips, lol!
Bowfest 2022

The Bowfest has been happening annually for over 30 years. While the numbers of guys has dwindled since the “covidian epoch”, those that still participate have a great time! Big shout out to Stan and his strap-on GoPro video footage!
High Water Egg Fly Pattern
Просмотров 271Год назад
Yup, another egg pattern. But this one has been designed for those days when the water is high and dirty, which happens a lot during steelhead season. This is not just for fly fishing, centre-pin anglers will also find this effective under a float. It’s big, it’s bright and it gets down in heavy current.
Tip Top Removal a New Method!
Просмотров 278Год назад
Tip-top replacement is the most common of all fishing rod repairs, and the step involving the removal of the tip-tip is usually where it all goes wrong! In this video, I share a simple, damage-free and almost foolproof method for removing the tip-top from a fishing rod.
DIY Floor for My Hunting Blind

My buddy Rick and I dreamt up a solution for the mucky conditions inside my hunting blind. What we came up with was cheap and portable, will keep my stuff somewhat clean and should stop the chair from sinking in the mud!
The Incredible Silver Minnow (John Richie version)

In this video I describe how to tie one of the best baitfish flies I’ve ever used - John Richie’s version of the Incredible Silver Minnow. Tie a few up, you won’t be disappointed. If you’re in the London, Ontario area, drop by John’s fly shop and if not, he does mail order too! Here's a link to his Facebook page: profile.php?id=100057819123157
North Shore 2022 (Part 3) - Moving a Log Cabin!
Просмотров 5932 года назад
In this, the last part in the series of our North Shore 2022 adventure, we help Jimmie move his log cabin out of danger’s way. The neighbouring camp already lost a building to the river’s power and to Lake Superior’s pounding waves. It was a lot of labour, but we made it light work with many hands and many laughs.
North Shore 2022 (Part 2) - At the Mouth
Просмотров 1372 года назад
Here’s the second video in a series on our annual spring fishing trip in Northern Ontario. We got a real mixed bag of weather on North Shore of Lake Superior, but we made the best of it! The fish seemed to come in waves, but that’s OK, as it gave us time to enjoy some smokies on a stick over an open fire on the beach and a couple of beers.

Thank you!
@@paulnoble684 Thank you again senior
Its time to tie more of these
@KevinNWO: You must be out; that's the only time I'll tie more 😁
Wow , what a great looking river .
Looks like a good method. Do you think it would work on an old solid fiberglass, medium heavy, boat rod with a very corroded roller tip? I’m worried about wrecking the blank. Thanks
@GeoffreyLawrence-et1yk: Admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience with roller guides and tips, however, this should work for you. Make sure you first remove any overwraps, if any. If you're still unsure, I'd suggest taking it to a rod repair guy who specializes in that type of rod.
Why not mount the motor lower use several v roller stands and an elastic band or thin large O ring stretch over a pulley mounted on the motor and over the end of the rod handle to drive it
Stevewright5642: There are a myriad of ways to modify this basic design. The direct drive, the simplicity and the cost effectiveness of it are aimed at the beginner who might only build a rod or two. If you want to customize it to suit your personal needs, fill your boots!
Gorgeous water!
@canadiangemstones7636: You have that right buddy. Video doesn't do it justice! You would've loved the rock formations in thee Andes!
Patagonia! You lucky SOB!
Nice tie! What weight rod are you throwing that with? RWM
@rWmyoutube: I use a 7-weight usually.
That's cool. Well done.
Hi paul! Nice Rod bag. while I was watching. I thought of an idea instead of a red ribbon, what if you use 2 round garters at the ends and a velcro in the middle? or go full velcro on 3 pts (top / middle / bottom) ? I hope you can try it. :) Cheers, Jas From Auckland!
@JasperB-AIS: Thank you! If you like Velcro closures, it would probably work. I'm not much of a Velcro guy ;)
I like it, looks great! Simple and strIght forward! Thank you!
@markinnis8404: Thank you!
Thank you for the very clear and perfect pace making this rod holder. I was able to follow along. Can't wait to make my son one for Christmas.
Just tried this 3 times and I'm amazed. It worked perfectly! I have ruined a couple rods with way too much heat and needle nose pliers. Thanks!!!
❤
Wow like it the pattern is simple but lovely ❤
@samelliot9186: Thanks Sam! When you build custom rods it's often difficult to find well-fitting, commercially produced rod bags.
Love all videos you make
Hey Paul is that hook is red and do you use sink line or no
@joeboirier63: Yes, the hook is red but I don't think hook colour matters as long it is of similar design. Line selection depends on water depth, current speed and where the fish are hanging out. Generally, I fish it on a floating line with a 9' to 12' fluoro' leader.

Paul - on that rod wrapper you have on the video - you measure it at the 3:14 mark. Where do you get those wheels with the rubber o-ring on them? I am looking for a source for those wheels/rings .. Thanks in advance. Gus
@bykergus: They are actually wheels for sliding closet doors that I found at Home Depot. You have to buy the orings that fit them separately.
I think the streamer should be Noble's Dinner Jig
@ronmarini7261: Thanks Ron! Many unlucky fish thought the same, lol!
G'day mate, where does the reel fit? Or does this not suit storing a combo?
@coreyshortland2074: It is for the rod only. I always remove the reel when not in use.
What bbq machine did you get the machine out of smart move
@natural mystics-kd9vt: You may want to watch the video again. Starting at the 0:27 mark, I clearly state the source of the specific rotisserie kit used. I also stated that any brand of rotisserie kit could be adapted for this project. Hope that helps.
Ontario first class fishing lodge. Excellent fishing
One of the better ones for sure. Their outpost camp is also great, if you're feeling a little more adventurous!
looking at doing this trip. Probably booking for the 2025 season. So jealous of you guys!! looks amazing! I was wondering how long you threw mouse patterns? this will be a primary target of mine to catch some trophies on mice patterns.
@nicknash331: Once I found out they were on mice that's pretty much all I fished. I developed an easy to cast pattern called the Gurgler Mouse. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/W7RjnWcF8HU/видео.html
@@paulnoble684 right on!! ive been mousing the upper Manistee river in my home town in northern Michigan for a few years throwing simular patterns. thanks for the info!!
I enjoyed watching you fishing the fly you tied. It's on my list, thanks
@patrickbling: Thanks! It has been a good pattern for any topwater predator.
loved the video. A question I have is at 2:43 in the video you show your rod in the wrapping jig. Where did you get the roller wheels and what brand. I like this set-up. Thank you for your effort of educating the masses that you don't have to have the high cost store bought to get a job done. Fancy equipment don't make it a better end product.
@ericpierce4510: Thanks! I put that rod jig together almost 25 years ago! The wheels were found at a hardware store - I think they were for sliding closet doors. Then found some O-rings that fit the grooves.
@@paulnoble684 Thank you sir.
Awesome video
@Bruins-vq5ey: Thank you; glad you enjoyed!
Nice work!
@wanderlustmedia1264: Thank you!

Looks amazing. Who ever is getting that rod sure is a lucky guy
David Roussin: LMAO, he's lucky he has a dad with connections. Come to think of it, he had a dog named Lucky. Must run in the family!
Great job. Sewing is another talent of yours. Nice looking rod
Kevin Roussin: Thanks pal! You just have to aim it and the machine does the rest, lol.
Wow cool
I enjoyed the video, looking forward to the next one.
Fishing Louisiana: Thanks! Been travelling but should be posting some new stuff soon!
Wow keren 👍
FISHINGSR999: Thanks!
You're welcome
Hey Paul - try the Puke fly in olive - it’s an amazing and deadly still water version that trout and other species take for dragonfly or damselfly nymphs - I’ve used it in Chile for Browns and it’s a killer. It also works if you nymph it for steelhead.
Stephen Beckett: As with any style of tie, variations are inevitable and that's how we evolve as tyers/fly anglers. Speaking of steelhead, some of my centre-pin buddies use it under a float in purple or hot pink (#'s 10 & 12). Although, none of these variations are "puke" flies.
Thank you for this great video
The focus is a tad fuzzy but I had to fit the camera between me and the rod jig for the point of view desired. My arms weren't long enough to reach past the ideal focal length but it was close enough to get the message across!
I learned ALOT by watching this video, thank you. I'm off grid at 6,800 ft. and wanted to dig out some small trout ponds. Thanks! Keith 🇺🇸
How do you accomplish your internet connection off grid?
what hook size you think is best
Joe: You want the finished fly to be the length of the baitfish. In the Thames that means about 2" so the shank of whatever hook I use should be about 1". This may be different where you fish.
Nice fish guys and great video.
Awesome. I'm going to make a couple!
Thanks!
Also want to comment on the great job the kids in the Clarke Road SS cooking class did on all the meals they supplied for our trip! Awesome as usual!!
Great video. Nice to see the bow fishing in that beautiful little river
Thanks Kev. It's a jewel to be sure. Nice to see Dan get his first steelie on a two-hander!
Ya congratulations to Dan .It was a big fish .Was he using the Incredible silver minnow or do you keep that a secret lol
@@KevinNW0 He got it on a white bunny-strip Zonker that Mary Degan tied for John's fly shop in London. Of the three Incredible Silver Minnows that I had with me, one ended up in the top of a cedar, while the last two ended up in the sunken wood piles for which the Sauble's bed is famous!
Hey paul, i recently unboxed all of ians fly tying stuff and im really getting into it, do you have an email adress i can reach out to you for questions about ians patters/swap stories about the big guy? thanks.
Hi Paul great video. Did you stay at Esnagami Wilderness Lodge?
Mark McLean: We did the outpost camp. Highly recommend. One of the better fly-in camps I've been to.
