Social media is garbage, a total waste of time

The way people are using social has changed dramatically but it’s clearly following societal trends, it’s become lazy and just about what someone can get from another. It was once a place to connect with others but most are just using social to push whatever they are selling and the rest aren’t actually engaging with anyone in a meaningful way. Follow unfollows, liking 30 posts to get attention but not follow the account, asking for people to subscribe before delivering any value are examples of all the low effort actions that are only about what the person making the actions can gain from the other. It’s become lazy, not genuine and really low value

I still prefer going out to meet my customers where they are: IRL. Always so much more satisfying to chat with actual people... Thanks for the video. I was thinking about my strategy a lot these days.

I love the example you gave of shopping malls! Spot on!! It is true. Especially IG aka meta is clearly dying . I took a long hiatus back in the summer of 2024 but I came back because leads that I connect with offline , want to see more of what I do, online. That’s why I’m back. But I’m not putting my full focus on social media platforms rather I’m spending more time meeting people irl

Ya, social media is exhausting. I’ve been putting the phone down and picking up books way more now. Shorts, TT and Instagram are just tiring. Too much selling. Fake AI crap. Less authenticity. “Everyone wants to be a creator…” is a great line and true. Look at all these folks teaching people how to create automated, faceless channels. It’s garbage and lacks any creativity. Basically letting AI do all of it at scale. I still enjoy YT video as I have more control over what and who I want to see.

Honestly, I think the algorithms have been programmed to manipulate users into making content that allows AI to easily train on them. I'm sure there is a desire to build deep profiles that could basically create a virtual clone. I believe that's why there has been such a wave of success for the no cut, straight talk "natural self" and a push for live videos. It's the easiest way to build a profile without having the AI work overtime with all the cuts, other people, music etc. This modern world is always about data collection, so it's always best to reverse engineer what benefits platforms most in regard to that. There is opportunity for people to build a community with less effort/gatekeeping but I would warn against giving too many personal stories or information that is private. Those stories are the last piece of individual humanity we have left in the fight against AI replacement.

This is so true, as a Pilates instructor that loves making exercise/movement accessible to people at home for mental wellbeing, I find it weird to post on social media (which is not great for mental wellbeing), but it feels like I need to in order to reach people - So I often stop/start posting, because I have not yet figured out how to reach my community without posting on social.

Yes, your video did start off dark - but I'm happy there was a positive ending. I actually refused to be a "creator" for years and years because it always struck me as fake and gave me the ick. Of course, this meant i wasn't really getting anywhere professionally. But ironically, now that it's getting even more blackmirrorish, I've realized that, like you said, its also a place where we can be authentic.... so ive decided to turn over a new leaf and try to be more active on social media, but by being my authentic natural self. To be honest, I think it's the only way I could do it without going crazy

When it comes to being creator instead of creative that’s because everytime I put the most time into a post and the most effort through filming editing etc those posts are my worst performing. Shorts that took hours to make between filming and editing with sometimes less than 50 views. Meanwhile my best performing took the least amount of time, least thought put into it, least amount of time filming and editing. It’s frustrating

I don’t like it! Creators will once again try to leverage seemingly genuine content to sell sponsored products and in return breed more distrust and hate. If you’re selling just sell don’t pretend you’re casually using 100 products daily.

I think the UGC vs the employee generated content is interesting. In a marketing class I learned a similar system of earned content (UGC) vs paid for content vs owned media. Do you think Employee generated content would fall under owned or paid for content. Interested either way.

It's interesting, because while I definitely see what you mean, my experience is very different. I feel creative, I made friends, and I genuinely engaged with someones content like 15 min ago. Heck, I'm doing it right now. I think there is definitely a (probably big) chunk of the internet, where this fakeness and laziness is happening, but I feel like I found my little niche where it feels genuine and inspiring. Maybe I'm seeing the start of what you described in your predictions 😊

I honestly engage and comment/reply all the time. It really is quite worth it. I've noticed that, especially on tiktok, if you comment a bunch (particularly if you trigger the 'first comment' flag a bunch of times) your own content gets a small view boost as a reward. Plus I've noticed, investigated and confirmed, that especially on youtube..... I actually get a lot of my followers from my comments on other peoples content. If you peak the curiosity of the reader they will check your profile and if they like what they've found they give you a follow. The followers you pick up this way, because the discovery process of you was completely carried out and owned by their own actions, they are usually a lot more active with your content and generally the most excellent of followers/fans in the future. Also people are growing tired of AI, automation, and corporate shills. They are starting to crave authenticity, and are willing to compromise some quality in production if it guarantees authenticity from the content. Correctly commenting on others content is the first tip-off to viewers that your profile is a real authentic person and worth investigating. And one final point, if you comment on another persons content often enough (and it is noticed).... if they are a half decent human they will comment on some of your content in return. So, I try to be the change I wish to see in the world. 😊🙏🧙‍♂

In an age when the boundaries between what is human made and generated is becoming indistinguishable and the distance between us is greater than ever - anything that connects, that is not transactional, does not end up with a buy now - will rise. Create something that you are proud of and present to the world, do not ask for anything in return and let the cards fall as they may.

Great insight, I’d add into it the “Dead Internet” theory which is perfectly demonstrated by IGs AI accounts ploy. You comment about people are going to make force “authentic moments” and people will see it as inauthentic and thus continue the death spiral.

I've been off of social media for a couple of years and am reviving everything because I'm reviving my (small) business. And now it seems the way I used to 'do' it (authentic, not so polished, real connection ...) is the trend for 2025? 😳 Weird, but easy for me: I can just do what I did before. 😊 I've always shown only the tiniest bit of private stuff and that's not gonna change either - I'll just say I'm setting the trend for 2027 😂

I feel like you really are reading the writing on the wall. I've actually stopped using my business account to engage with social media (including RUclips) because I don't want every action I undertake on the internet to be me trying to sell something. As everything becomes steered by algorithms that ultimately desire clicks and AI helps us recycle the same pool of ideas ad infinitum, I've noticed that the internet makes me feel like a wallet trying to pass myself off as human. Actually accessing people and information on this giant web seems harder than ever, because now the pile of algorithmic/AI-generated shlock keeps growing exponentially. RIP the age of information. Everybody suit up for the age of spam.

All the “Build your business on social media AND Become a YT creator Full-Time” channels and creators have created a huge flood in the creator market. You say “Do what worked for others before you and use this 5 step formula to …”. And they all Copy Paste. And as you say “Everyone is selling something” you plug your course and products.

This feels so aligned! I’ve recently gone through a spiritual shift and now view my life-and social media-through a completely new lens. I’m intentionally sharing from the heart, tapping into my creativity, and letting go of the need to do it “perfectly.” I’m no longer chasing the perfect aesthetic or following trends. I’m in my own lane, focused on genuine connection and extending myself with no expectations of what I’ll receive in return. 2025 is my year of ease, flow, and living lighter! ❤
