She's right, of course - BUT only MOSTLY right. The world was against her and her successful contemporaries when she was involved in Britain's early Punk Scene, but she lucked out and associated with visionary Producers and Record Label executives. These people are less common now, but they can still be found. But man, it's lots less easy to find them now, and the corporate contacts now tend to be younger and ambitious, and hope to become famous on YOUR talent - so it's even harder to make it. What's needed, of course, is a Revolution. But the Powers That Be are careful to keep us satisfied with crap TV(savage insult comedy and violence porn) and unhealthy but satisfying cheesy carbohydrates, and booze(of course). Ain't no Revolution gonna happen until it's too late to save any of the good stuff. If you give a shit, the world is in the same state now as right before WW1(read Margaret MacMillan's excellent book "The War That Ended Peace" for examples) and ask yourself if a little discomfort and hard work is too much to ask to avoid an ugly, deadly shit-storm. Read her book - "Clothes, Clothes, Clothes, Music, Music, Music, Boys,Boys, Boys." Her MOTHER is the real hero - the one who schooled Viv and taught her that the world can be an ugly, dangerous place, and to look out for herself. Hers is a survivor's story, and I don't read it much anymore; I can get caught up in the details - it's hard to believe that she was there, in the midst of all that history. She's a hero of mine, and I have to limit my intake of videos with her in 'em!
