Hey, are you from Michigan?

as a bit of a fire alarm enthusiast and tornado siren enthusiast, i really love this vintage system. Edwards must be well known safety company along with Federal Signal. Wish yall had a vintage federal signal system, not only do they manufacture outdoor warning sirens but also fire alarms too!!

Federal signal 450E is the loudest fire alarm in the world. What I find weird, it’s even louder than the bells.

I hate these alarms, I was so fearful of this fire alarm, they scared the hell out me at my old elementary school it was built in 1963. My school is long gone now it got demolished in 2009.

As much as it is annoying that spectralert advances or wheelock as fire alarms are so common, at least it gives more valuable to these old alarms. And if they were more common, we wouldn't care as much.

My first elementary school had bells but I was always told I didn’t hear them because they rang before I got there. My second elementary school had a couple bells outside but inside nothing but a weird box in the gym. The teachers said they never worked. However curious 10 year old me was up in a room on the second floor in a room that used to be an office. There was a box with switches and a clock. The bell system. The teacher walked out I said to my friend I think that works the bell and it’s still keeping time. We pressed the button and every signal device went off. No one ever heard it before and only the janitor knew what it was. The outside bells rang. A horn went off in the gym and buzzers went off in every classroom. It was distinct compared to the simplex fire alarm from the 70s. The school was built in 1939. Still their but bell system remove and fire alarm replaced. This happened in 1987. We sort of got in trouble but not to much. In fact after the principal learned it worked and was just on silent had it adjusted for time. They also a couple days later did an announcement for a civil defense/tornado drill. They use to cycle the simplex fire alarm from continuously sounding (and it was loud) to marching sound to practice civil defense. Basically they just opened a pull station and flip it off and on to get a marching signal. They then sounded the bell system for all non evacuation drills. My friend and I laughed and the principal admitted she didn’t know it worked and thought it was a good idea. Fast forward to 1994 I summer jobbed at my old elementary school. I found the box and the bells worked. In middle school we still had bells and I got to dismiss the school a couple times. I may have held the button longer than usual was supposed to. In high school the building was from the early 60s. They had bells but used an intercom tone. For our senior prank in 1996. We got the bells to work. It was again in another old room in a closet that was the main office. It was disconnected from power but we took a risk and found the breaker. The next day they went off 8:02 and every ten minutes for about half a day till they disconnected by a maintenance guy and the closest was locked. The whole school was gutted and remodeled in 2003 we thought about trying to get the bells and master clock. Do not know if it was scrapped when removed during remodeling.

I’m guessing that they used to have an old Simplex 4051 or similar fire alarm horn on that blank box on the right.

Interesting how Edwards was still using those 1950s-style Adaptahorns into the 1970s. I figured by that time they would've had the more familiar 87x-series Adaptahorns (though I have seen the older-style ones installed in the late 1960s).

That sound reminds me of my middle school, how we had a mix of Edwards single-stroke chimes and 340 6" Adaptabels as school bells, all from 1957, and it'd sound like that if you were in a certain area near where there were both chimes and bells. They also still have their original Gamewell fire alarm system from 1957 intact (with flush-mount Federal Signal explosionproof horns), compared to that high school now being on its' third fire alarm system!

Why is the 7002t flipped upside down?

i have a wheelock 7002t and Federal Signal vibertone but I'm now buying a Federal Signal Electronic Horn Model 450E-024 Series A Gray Color 12-24VDC 3

This is also the first time I've heard a 450E used in a fire alarm application.

3:04 That's not a 7002T, it's a National Time-branded 34T-24-WS-24 since the horn doesn't skip when the strobe flashes.

Wait I didn’t know there were two people making videos at the same time with this epic Edwards system! I watch that other video almost every week because I love how the Adaptahorns sound. I remember finding one of these systems in a fish shop one day. The guy wouldn’t let me see the panel and the pull station in the panel room but he did set it off for me and let me make a video of it since he loves to set that adaptahorn off all the time.
