I didn't particularly like that you only brushed the table. I like to wash mine down with water and rag to make sure no material is under the cloth. A single hair will fuck that table up. Especially with playing snooker.

It took me a week to assemble it, when I first got my snooker table. It's a tough job. Even reclothing it 3 years later, took me several days 😊 Most of the time I always spent levelling those 5 slates until it's almost perfect or I give up as I can't improve it anymore.

I hate changing duvet covers so fitting that cloth is a no go for me.

Had no idea as to the complex and precise steps needed to make a professional snooker table.

I seem to recall these were called E J Riley tables back in the day (when they were built in Accrington). In fact they had a shop in Accrington which sold all types of sporting goods. I didn't realize that the bed was made of a number of sections but it makes sense. Fascinating build and great music.

So how long did it take?

Thought those slates were 200kgs each...

The slate pocket edges are too sharp and not given the correct bevel . They are roughly cut to shape at the cutting plant , you have to finish them when you make the table . What will happen is the balls will bounce back at the slate edge as they go down and the too sharp edges cause the cloth to cut through prematurely . Also the fall of the slate especially at the center pockets will be wrong . Also makes it harder to stretch out the wrinkles at the center pocket as per the use of a G clamp which is unheard off in the trade . The slates were cheap no dowel slates which rely on the center rail support too much and have a tendency to sag over time unevenly . You will feel the lips when you iron the table in 10 year's time and have to pack the slate with playing cards . I guess nothing is as good as it was 30 years ago . Other than that he did a pretty good job as long as it's as level as possible .

Amazing. Thanks for this. It's amazing to see how much work goes into it. I'm curious though, how strong is that slate? It looks pretty thick. Could it withstand someone standing on it if someone was careless enough to do that?
