Excellent video....great historical footage, great narration and great pacing.

Goodness. Holy smokes man. Ive done about 90 on a lake. It was glass smooth. Basically no wind, touch of intermittent breeze at best. No obstacles. Simply absolute best conditions that could be asked for. With that said, never again. Nope. Just an fyi' im sn oval track dirt racer. Dozens of wins. 120 sideways on dirt with 25 other cars. Concrete walls. No safer barriers or anything of the like. 170 on asphalt. Race track and somewhere in Mexico (never on U.S public roadways. That would-cough cough- be illegal)And again- hauling the mail on water, nope.

I suspect a wing and active aero of some sort are going to be necessary ( not sure if it is above or below the water line). At this point any little wave launches these boats into flight. Might need a lot more power to overcome the drag but you don't win if you don't finish.

water may look flat , smooth as glass ,BUT at that speed its not flat , it actually has undulations up and down , get a camera at water line and you see it , in a fast boat , you feel it

To your question of- Is it worth the risk? Who the frick cares. If some idiot wants to go super-fast on water, let them try. If they live to tell the story, good for them. I think once you go over 300 mph that boat wants to be an airplane so badly that its almost impossible to keep it from flying especially since the water surface has variables that you can't control.

My mother said she could see it from the West Side. She was in class at West Tech high school at the time (class of 1945). Local news sources revisited it on the 50th anniversary in 1994 but for some reason it seems to have been forgotten since.

There is an error on the title screen for the Ocean Ranger accident. The narration has the correct details, but I made a careless error when editing the title screen for that one. I'm annoyed about that because I like to pride myself on accuracy, as there is so much mis-information about all these disasters floating around. I will be re-making the video at some point anyway, because I'm not happy with the quality of sound and editing - it was one of my earlier videos, and can be much better now I've learnt a bit more how to produce the videos.
