Discovered your channel today. I like your delivery - Straight to the point. Background music might be unnecessary but that's just my preference. Looking forward to more content!
Thanks. You're not the only one who doesn't like music in my videos. I'm going to try my next video without music - but during editing, before I add the music in, I always think it sounds a bit dead.
As a then 7 year old, I can remember well seeing the news (BBC - Richard Baker - I think) on that evening. My uncle was the Exploration manager for BP in the North Sea at the time, and as an avid news follower, he turned on the news to be absolutely horrified to see the news footage of the disappearing Sea Gem almost below the waves. As fast as my aunt could throw some clothes into a suitcase he drove from his house in South Devon to either Cleethorpes, where Bristows Helicopters based their helicopters, or Great Yarmouth where BP's Office was situated before the Dyce office had been built. (I cannot recall which ) My father worked at that time on the Sea Gem, but was rostered off over the Christmas break. I believe there was a Bristow's helicopter also in the vicinity of the Sea Gem after it had sunk. I had been lucky to have been taken to the helipad base at Cleethorpes a few times prior to the sinking as a treat. At that time all the helicopters flying out to the Sea Gem had float landing pods. For anyone interested, at that time, G-AWPN was based there, and by some luck, it is on static display at the Midland Air Museum in Coventry but painted in Bristows later livery and with wheeled landing gear. We did not see anything of my uncle for months as he dealt with the obvious issues including the fatal accident enquiry. We also felt very lucky that my father was not onboard that fateful day. Others were not so lucky.
Trying to find correct footage of old helicopters is difficult sometimes - I'm just doing a video on the history of North Sea helicopter crashes, and getting footage for that is proving a nightmare!
@@Master-Disaster I personally write on aviation accidents (just limited to quora for now I have a space for my aviation answer: “Aleks’ Flight Envelope!” Where I guarantee flying with me we’ll never be in the flight Envelope) but I found it was easy for visuals to do photo manipulation using my extensive collection of Gemini and Herpa diecast and after effects with a apps. If you Google “1972 königs wusterhausen air disaster” I have my phone manipulation show up shockingly quick (it’s the only one using a tarom livery because I lacked the correct alternative lol) I just appreciate those who I can tell put extra effort into their craft (videos or writing) because you value the product for use as education.
Thanks for watching. Please leave a comment on other accidents/disasters you would like me to cover. Also, let me know if you woudl like me to cover more general videos about the offshore oil and gas industry.
At one stage I had copies of Thai papers where 35 odd fishermen claimed to be off the rig, wonder where I left them...they will try anything...They fell out of a bar on the beach and tried to get a payday...I could tell you some stories about Kent Nolan...fine young fellow, with a young family....There was an Irby on board also. If I am remembering correctly, Bill L______ was the company man who refused to abandon ship but let's be careful ....@@Master-Disaster
It did not go down but the story of the Scan Bay, stolen by the Iranians in 79, is quite a story. 5 blowouts on the same HP gas well....off Bushire@@Master-Disaster

Interesting video, I learned some new things about offshore drilling. Turns out it goes back further than I realized.
Glad you enjoyed it - I couldn't find any other similar video on the internet, so think this info deserves to be shared more widely.

And props on matching the correct helicopter model and color scheme in your b-roll as the correct model and color you relayed was used!

Then there was the Ocean Prince submersible sat on seabed. Disintegrated.
